My fellow citizens of the SHL, it is my honor to address you today as your co-co-commissioner. I am pleased to report that our league is thriving and continues to grow in popularity among fans and players alike. Our commitment to fairness, sportsmanship, and competition has earned us a reputation as one of the most exciting and dynamic sports leagues in the world. As we gather here today, I am excited to share with you some of the changes we have in store for the league, changes that I believe will make our already great sport even better. Together, let us continue to push the boundaries of what is possible and strive for excellence in all that we do.
We will be rolling out three changes today that we believe will vastly improve the experience of users across the league.
The first change is a change to playoff seeding. We have heard that the system we have now has gotten stale with some of the matchups that occur season after season, so we’re changing it to a custom system with the help of OOTP and a patch that will be available for FHM8 soon. Going forward, SHL playoff seeding will take place via a round robin tournament in the same fashion used in IIHF play. Upon completion of the round robin portion, teams will proceed to single elimination playoff games to advance to the final. We hope this alleviates some of the pain of repetition of the matchups in past years, and provides some excitement and opportunity for more upsets in later rounds.
The second change will be the introduction of archetypes. We will introduce five new archetypes to the player creator, which all new players will be required to adhere to and they will be as follows:
Offensive forward (defensive attributes such as Defensive Read, Shot Blocking, and Checking, will be capped at 13 for this archetype, and offensive attributes such as Offensive Read and Getting Open will begin at a higher minimum of 15)
Defensive forward (essentially the reverse of offensive forward)
Offensive defender (certain defensive attributes capped at 15, minimum on some offensive attributes will be raised to 13)
Defensive defender (essentially the reverse of offensive defender)
Goalie - no changes
Beginning in S71, all players will be required to redistribute their TPE into one of these archetypes. More information will be available in the coming weeks.
The third change, and perhaps the one we’re most excited about, is the formation of Jobs For All. This is a new initiative designed to address the growing shortage of users participating in site jobs. Beginning with the S71 SHL Draft class, all users will be matched with a site job at the conclusion of the SHL Draft. We believe this full season prior to the draft will be adequate time for new users to become acclimated to the site, and we will be hiring a Jobs For All committee whose sole responsibility will be to match users with the jobs they think will fit them best. There will no longer be an application process for any job; the JFA Committee will be responsible for all hiring and selection for all jobs (with the exception of SHL/SMJHL Head Office/Commissioners). We hope this will assist newer users who may be struggling with money, and will spread the workload throughout the site more evenly. Users who do not wish to participate in their assigned job will forfeit half of the TPE they earn in that calendar week.
