player prompt

sebastien regazzoni has very complicated feelings at the press. on the one hand, he understands that it is their job not necessarily to generate high-quality articles but to generate clicks for their websites; that is how they get paid. whenever he goes into the press pen, regazzoni tries to be as honest as possible and balance his way between his well-known cockiness and honesty, trying to give these journalists the best of both worlds (a good interview but also something that will generate clicks and extra revenue). on the other hand, regazzoni gets quite angry when journalists misconstrue his words in an interview to generate said clicks. the dishonesty from some journalists, on both him and his teammates, angers regazzoni as he wants them to be honest and not attempt to tear down his teammates (even if he thinks they deserve it, he'd rather that happen behind closed doors so it could be put to rest there).

PLAYER PROMPT: Uskjal is no fan of the press, as he mainly sees it as a distraction from what is truly important, hockey. But he does understand that it is a necessity to speak to the media and the fans alike to allow them to follow the team and root for them on the ice. Therefore, Uskjal tried to be genuine and honest when discussing matters with the media. Rather than dodging questions and answering in half truths Uskjal will clearly state what he can and cant talk about and then give his honest take on the matters on which he can speak. Uskjal gladly speaks about the city and its fans, but when asked he will also share game specific points that are not confidential anymore. So all in all it is more than fair to say Uskjal is quite boring in most interviews, but when doing work in the community or other outreach programs he is very open and eager to shine a spotlight on them. The last part to Uskjals media personality is Trashtalk, he does sometimes drop small slights against his opponents but nothing headline worthy.

Tell me about your player's thoughts and feelings on reporters and pressers in general! Do you like taking the questions after the games, or do you dread your number being called? Why? If a teammate gets asked for after a really bad game, would you voluntarily go in his stead? (150+ words)

Tibuk Soonika has had his ups and downs with the local media in Kelowna. There have been some quality journalism that takes places with places like Castanet having reputable journalists who know to respect some boundaries and provide quality articles and media. Then there are the podcasters/bloggers. *Sigh*. It seems this form of "Journalism" comes without tact or class. The number of times Tibuk has left the arena and then been ambushed by the amateur detectives looking for some exclusive scoops is becoming untenable. It has got to the point where Tibuk has started looking for some personal protection for when he is out and about. He knew coming to a Canadian market was going to be challenging but this takes it to another level. While the Junior years won't last forever it does make it hard on a developing athlete to be able to hit the gym or grab some groceries without a recorder or cellphone being stuck in his face.

Something that Wisconsin's teammates have slowly been learning is that she does not speak. At all. To the point that she no longer gets called out for media since there's really nothing they could get out of her. It'd be pointless to ask her any questions because she will not give an answer. However, some media members have figured out that while she doesn't speak, there are some that have gotten close enough to her that they can speak for her. Mainly her host family who has been taking care of her since she arrived in Kelowna. It's something about living with someone and seeing how they move through the world that helps you understand them a bit better. And while she never says anything, her hosts have figured out what she wants them to know. So, there are some outlets who have resorted to speaking with them instead of directly talking to Wisconsin.

A media circus? What's that? Petr only sees an opportunity to elevate the Czech cause and propagate his belief in the Czech people, nation, and system. Propaganda? No, never! That word only sounds like propagate, you shouldn't worry too much about it anyway. Petr wants as many cameras and microphones pointed at him as possible and for as many hours in a day as possible so as to let him express his love for his nation forever more. Sleep? Not necessary when your country needs your service. Ask now what your country can do for you, ask if you can do the world's first 48 hour non-stop press conference broadcasting live to all on Earth! Petr will use every opportunity given to espouse more patriotism than can fill the available airtime on any national daytime TV broadcaster, so Petr has to make the most of what opportunities he is given.

Although Alex has never been the most charismatic guy in the locker, he has taken a leadership role in his final season in the J. Part of being a leader includes talking to the media and especially will talk after the tough games when the media can be the worst. He has his favorite reporters that ask intellectual questions and are genuinely looking to gather insight from the player's perspective for their article. These conversations can easily go over the alloted time as Alex enjoys talking about the game. However those members of the media who are intentionally attempting to stir the pot still have to be answered. Talking with those reporters is tougher but someone has to do it and Alex is more than happy to fall on that sword for the team. He has learned from the previous years and examples set by captains how to handle these reporters by being short and precise with your words.

Creative prompt:

When asked about my relationship with @CementHands after my comments made the previous week Cale finally broke down. We have a rivalry more than most do. A lot of that is because we are closer then brothers. But that isn’t all we share. What started as a brotherly bond has grown into much more. Being pro athletes we have to be tough and strong and not show emotions but away from the rink we are actually quite a lot closer than even our biggest fans could have imagined. Yes that is right we are more than Brothers we are Lovers. Now this would rock some headlines and do exactly what it was meant to do and accomplish. It immediately changed the opinions and views on both Barca and Cale as well as succeed in completely changing the topic about the rough game we had just played and the state of the team. This of course spread like wildfire through the sporting world as well prompting the league to start more pride nights.

Oskar isn't exactly known for his outstanding charisma and personality. He can be a bit of a recluse at times and as a result you can likely assume he's not the best when you toss him in front of a microphone and grill him with questions, especially after a tough loss. He knows it's the reporters job to ask the tough questions the fans want to hear, but if given the option he'd rather one of the other teammates field the questions and he can comfort them in the dressing room afterwards. When he's called upon he steps up to the plate and does his best. He typically keeps his answers pretty short and tosses in a bunch of cliche hockey terms about how the team just needs more time to gel and they didn't play their game. Or perhaps they stuck to their game and grinded out a well earned victory and they need more of that moving forward.

Player Prompt

Paul Binder personally loves talking with the media. He always sees the same old, monotone, same answers every single day guys take the questions and it's just boring television. Nobody wants to see that. Of course there's a level of professionalism one has to portray when dealing with the media, but that's no reason to act like a droned out zombie when answering questions. Paul Binder wears his heart on his sleeve and he shows it when answering media questions. He's not afraid to portray just how upset or frustrated he is when a game doesn't go the team's way, or the exact opposite, he's all smiles and jokes when the team gets a solid victory. Even when not taking the questions, he can oftentimes be seen pulling lighthearted jokes on the guys that are dealing with the press such as wet willies or other goofy things.

PLAYER PROMPT:

Miroslav doesn't mind media scrums most days, as he is really outspoken. Even in Juniors, he was always willing to speak his mind, as he called out opposing players such as Billy Blazes for reasons that he found unbecoming of his biggest, at the time, rival. Miroslav has a smooth way with words, dropping one-liners and sarcastic remarks with ease. Most in the SHL media consider him a darling, but he has been known to call out reporters for any questions he deems silly or downright stupid. This has led to some smear campaigns, but really, he doesn't care. If a reporter tries to slander him after he's called him out, it really just serves to prove Miroslav's point.

His demeanor in his home country of Czechia; however, is much more jovial with the media. He is considered a home country hero and is loved by many there. He is not the only Czech player, nor is he necessarily the best, but he is the most charismatic. He loves to crack jokes and hang out with members of the Czech media to talk IIHF hockey, SHL dealings or local drama.

So second prompt & just like Jon Forty-One, Isaac Forty-One also hates doing media interviews. They are usually quite harsh on him or asking baiting questions as they ask him stuff cause they know it is a sure fire way to get media attention cause he is most likely violent or pushy or at the very least a confrontation over what they are saying to him.

It isn't really so much the criticism that gets to him but just these journalists looking for cheap heat or a fight so he just gets into that mode. It is not every question that triggers him but just the baiting questions. Just not needed. The fans seemed to always enjoy it albeit the anger is there for them if they are not careful + players + team mates + whatever else. It is quite fun as a defender though now since he can put those silly questions into stronger hits against them so I guess it helps them.

Billy Herrington was a stud forward for the Detroit Falcons in the SMJHL, and as a pro athlete, he was no stranger to media attention. But when it came to pressers and interviews, he had mixed feelings. On one hand, he understood the value of the media in promoting the league and his squad. He also dug getting some air time to showcase his sick moves and connect with the fans. On the other hand, sometimes the questions were just dump-and-chase, and he felt like he was getting forechecked in his own end. After a tough loss, Billy sometimes dreaded the post-game scrum. He preferred to focus on getting the squad back on track instead of rehashing the missed opportunities. Nevertheless, he knew he had to be a locker room leader, so he often sucked it up and faced the media. If one of his teammates got dangled into speaking after a stinky game, Billy would sometimes step up and take the slot. He knew some of the young guns on the team found the media biz a little chippy, and he didn't want to leave them out to dry. Plus, as an experienced player, he felt it was his job to have his squadmates' backs. Overall, Billy Herrington knew the media was a key part of the game, but he also knew it had its ups and downs. He always tried to rep his team and the sport with class, whether he was on the ice or in the scrum.
