The St. Louis Scarecrows are a young team with a defense that varies in ability. From silky smooth puck movers, to a player that tapes his knuckles and nothing else, they are a interesting group.

The oldest of the group is David Doug. Doug was born in Moscow, Russia. He is an imposing figure on the blue line, standing at six foot seven inches and weighing 250 pounds. Of those 250 pounds, most of it is pure muscle. He is built like an Ox, never one to be knocked off the puck. The best part of his game is defense. His ability to read the play in the defensive zone and place himself in passing and scoring lanes is one of the best parts of his game right now. He isn't afraid to go into the corner to battle, nor is he afraid to use his body to separate the puck from the puck carrier.

Our next defenseman hails from Gatineau, Canada, Antoine Gauthier. Weighing 190 pounds and standing at six foot one inches, Gauthier is a smooth skating defenseman. His hands are silky smooth, being able to stick handle in a phone booth if required. His play in the offensive zone is unrivaled, being able to see how the play is developing and thread the toughest of passes through the defense. To describe his defensive play, Gauthier would not be a player you would want to have on your penalty kill.

From Poznan, Poland, Jay Bryzi is the next defenseman on St. Louis we will look at. Standing at 6 foot 5 inches, Bryzi is very capable player that is comfortable at both ends of the ice. His vision on the ice is incredible, be it defense or offense. Like Gauthier, he is able to thread a pass in the toughest of positions. For his size, Bryzi is able to skate very well.

Don't call this next player a pylon, because it's Dee Fence. Standing in at 6 foot 3 inches, weighing 240 pounds, Fence is known for his physical play. If it moves on the ice, he well will hit it. He isn't afraid of anyone, and will actively target players if the opportunity arises. To go along with his physical play, he has very good cardio. Though he is seen as the goon on the team, he still has enough ability to read the play in the defensive zone very well.

Sven Holmberg is a hard nosed defenseman from Manhattan, New York. His hands are silky smooth, be able to dangle around any forward in front of him. In his own zone, he his vision allows him to disrupt the play and break up scoring chances with ease. He has been known to have a bit of an aggressive side while on the ice.

Finally, we have Artturi Lappalainen from Helsinki, Finland. Lappalainen is 6 foot 7 inches, a big brute of a man on the ice. The best part of his game is ability to play the body, never shying away from a hit or check to create opportunities for his team. On his skates, he is very balanced. Defensively he is solid and isn't a liability in his own zone.

Sven Holmberg
