3 BLIZZSTARS OF THE WEEK
S71 - Week 3
The Edmonton Blizzard are dragging their feet along in week 3 of season 71. Although the team has slipped one more spot in the standings to 4th, the results have still been steady and the Blizzard have not finished any week with a negative record. In week 3, the Blizzard went 11-7-0 in 18 games played, with tough losses to teams below them in the standings. The team is still trying to find consistency in showing up to games against lesser rosters, as those games are crucial points lost in the fight to stay at the top of the table. The team also suffered it’s first shut out loss this week, however, they are not too worried as the team is second in the league in goals for with 275. With another week in the record books, here are you 3 Blizzstars of season 71 – week 3:
⭐
Luke Laraque (@blix900)
#7 – LW – Stockholm, Sweden
18GP – 8G, 13A, 21P, +12 First Blizzstar of week 3 is Luke Laraque! First time this season being on the list, Luke has had a solid week putting up 5 more points in just as many games compared to last week. On top of that, he improved his +/- rating by +12 this week, which means he is a positive impact while he is on the ice, keeping the opposition from being effective in the EDM defensive zone. His 13 Assists this week has also propelled him into 8th in the top 10 assist list. As so many other Blizzards this season, Luke Laraque is also on track to set career numbers this season. Putting up 83 points in 66 games last season, Luke has 11 games to gain 9+ points to tie or best his previous season, the main difference here is he finished season 70 at Minus-11, and is currently +18 (the +12 this week provided a massive boost). Overall, Laraque is finding his groove in the league and is coming into his prime.
Notable games from Week 3: GM45 – vs LAP – 7-1 2G, 1A, 3P, +5 GM50 – vs SFP – 9-3 1G, 2A, 3P, +1 GM53 – vs LAP – 7-0 0G, 4A, 4P, +3 ⭐⭐
Benjamin Surkhi-Ze'ev
(@HoltzFan10)
#10 – RW – Tel Aviv, Israel 18GP – 10G, 14A, 24P, +8 From Honorable Mention to Second Blizzstar of the week, Bejamin Surkhi-Ze’ev! Following up last week’s performance, Surkhi-Ze’ev put up almost identical numbers showing that the previous week’s performance was no fluke. Benjamin now sits second on the team with 30G, 45A, 75Pts leapfrogging Oles Kobliska who was last weeks First Blizzstar. Coming into the final week of the regular season, Benjamin will need to amass 8 points or more to have another career season. Similar to fellow Blizzstar and S65 draftee, Benjamin is coming into his prime and will be essential to Edmonton’s cup aspirations on and off the ice.
Notable games from week 3: GM39 – vs TEX – 7-2 1G, 2A, 3P, +2 GM45 – vs LAP – 7-1 0G, 3A, 3P, +3 GM50 – vs LAP – 7-0 0G, 3A, 3P, +4 ⭐⭐⭐
Luca Hunziker
(@Dangles13) #6 – LD – Grindewald, Switzerland 18GP – 3G, 6A, 9P, +3 IT’S A BACK-TO-BACK BLIZZSTAR OF THE WEEK! Who does this guy think he is?! What can I say that wasn’t already said (last week)? Luca is still on track for a career year, only needs 9 more point in these last 11 games to best his production. However, as of the end of week 3, Hunziker has already obliterated his career high takeaways with 71 so far (S68 – TOR – 50TA), and lowest Giveaway total of his career and the team with 7..SEVEN! SEVEN GIVEAWAYS IN 55 GAMES?! And that’s with first line pairing minutes, so you can’t say he doesn’t have giveaways because he’s not on the ice or touching the puck. Another fun fact, almost half of his giveaways came this week as he had an insane ratio of 23:3 (TA:GA)
Honourable Mention
Evan Winter
(@RomanesEuntDomus) #17 – C – Mainz, Germany 18GP – 13G, 13A, 26P, +5 Honorable mention goes to Evan Winter this week! This fine piece of German engineering is a piece of art, Winter has been chugging along and producing at an unreal pace all season, if the Blizzstar list was base only on scoring production, he would be first star every week, no questions asked. The only gap in Winter’s game is finding some consistency between scoring in bunches and being left off the score sheet. He has a very important role in Edmonton, usually when he scores, they will win the game. Evan is currently top 10 in Goals, Assists, Points, Shots, and Powerplay Goals.
Notable games from week 3:
GM50 - vs SFP - 9-3
4G, 1A, 5P, +2
GM52 - vs LAP - 7-0
3G, 0A, 3P, 4
Congratulations to this weeks Blizzstars! Last week of the regular season, let's keep the momentum going and finish strong going into the playoffs! As usual, this weeks Blizzstars will receive a wonderful prize! From @HabsFanFromOntario, he said that you can come see the "Mind Goblin", you'll have to go see him in his office to see what he means...and bring a towel? From @Eggcracker, all winners will receive a free Brazilian butt lift or butt injection from the team's medical staff, this will allow the weekly whippings in the locker room to be run more smoothly. Please redeem hffo's prize behind the dumpster at the back of the arena, and egg's prize at the trainer's room.
