“With the 13th overall pick in the S72 Simulation Major Junior Hockey League Draft, the Newfoundland Berserkers selected Sad Ketchup.” Sad Ketchup is a young winger from Ketchuptown, which is currently unaffiliated with any International Ice Hockey Federation country. Sad Ketchup stands at 6 foot, 3 inches, and weighs a solid two-hundred and five pounds.
The young Newfoundland Berserkers forward is known for offense. His key attributes include getting open, puck handling, and offensive read. Additionally, he has above-average physicals. His glaring weakness includes his defensive game. The young forward has always put up amazing offensive numbers but also left something to be desired on the defensive side, although he has normally not needed the defensive side as his offensive prowess is normally good enough. The Simulation Major Junior Hockey League is a different story and Sad Ketchup likely will not be able to get away with a lack of defensive play.
After being drafted, Sad Ketchup was brought into a meeting with Newfoundland Berserkers management about the possibility of shifting to center. Sad Ketchup was not convinced but being the team player Sad Ketchup is, he decided to shift to center to help the team. Sad Ketchup has never played the center position before.
Pre-season
In the Simulation Hockey League Preseason Sad Ketchup made his debut at center. The young center put up a solid 5 goals, 8 assists for 13 points in 7 games. Sad Ketchup had a 49% face-off win rate which is pretty decent for a first-time center. Defensively, Sad Ketchup had 2 takeaways, 2 shots blocked, and 17 hits.
Regular Season thus far
So far in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League regular season, the Newfoundland Berserkers have won 12 games and lost 4 which has them 4th overall in the standings so far. Sad Ketchup has played well thus far early into his Simulation Major Junior Hockey League career. Sad Ketchup has scored 10 goals and recorded 9 assists for 19 points in 16 games. Sad Ketchup has a 50.7% face-off win percentage. Defensively, Sad Ketchup has 6 blocked shots and 38 hits along with 10 takeaways.
Overall Sad Ketchup has had a decent start to his Simulation Major Junior Hockey League career. Sad Ketchup certainly has a lot to prove at the center position with a lackluster two-way game although it appears Sad Ketchup has made some strides defensively. Sad Ketchup currently sits in the top 10 of rookie scoring and is hoping to get himself near the top, ideally the top rookie scorer this season although the competition for that spot is high.
Future
The key to success for Sad Ketchup in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League going forward is continuing to develop his offensive game but bringing his two-way game up to average, if Sad Ketchup can bring his two-way game up he has the potential to be a star, if not he will be a sheltered power-play specialist who is a defensive liability
The question is will Sad Ketchup make enough noise and improvements to be a first-round pick in the S73 Simulation Hockey League Draft? Sad Ketchup has the pedigree to do so considering his player agency but that is not always a guarantee of success.
