The sport of ice hockey has undergone several rule changes throughout its existence, from the introduction of the forward pass to the elimination of the rover and the existing of the shootout. One constant throughout its history, however, is that hockey has always had a fixed playing boundary. The boards around the ice rink defined boundaries of play, and any pucks leaving this area result in a stoppage of play. What if, however, the game continued when the puck made its way over the glass? Players would then need to climb over the glass, weave their way through arena seats and watching fans to find the puck and bring it back onto the ice. This would add a whole new dimension to the sport, and open up so many new strategies and possibilities. A team could choose to shithouse their way through a game, continuously shooting the puck out of play to waste time.

Option 1:

I think that having the opportunity to change an ice hockey rule that would specifically apply to the Simulation Hockey League would be extremely fun and create something silly that would set it apart from other leagues. Of course the change can't be too drastic like melting all the ice and forcing players to play in ankle deep water but something that would add value to the game. Just kidding we should add a second puck that randomly gets thrown out on the ice by a new off-ice official. It would be taken out of play at the next whistle but can be added again at any time at the discretion of this new official. It would add more offense and chaos to the game. Can you score before the other team does? Do you want to dominate possession and control both to give yourself an even better chance at scoring? The possibilities here are endless and would be extremely entertaining to watch.

If I could change one rule in hockey and I have free range of any rule that could be changed... I would make it so that goalies would have to be included in the penalty shootout. They would not only have to play in goal, but they would also have to take a shot. They are able to go at any of the 5 spots but they must be included in one of those. This would make for some really hilarious situations where the goalies could pull some sweet moves in their direct competitors. Could you also imagine a world where the goalie would stop the last shot, then have to come to center ice with the game on the line and have to come in and one, two, three, triple deke the opposition. This would just be so amazing to see. Unfortunately for us, it breaks FHM if we put goalies in the shootout spots, so it's not something that we can do.

How about introducing the "Mascot Mandatory Shift" rule? In this whimsical addition to hockey, each team must designate a player as the team mascot for one shift per game. During this special shift, the designated player must wear a hilarious mascot costume, complete with an oversized head, paws, and a goofy outfit, and actively participate in the game.

The mascot player would have to skate, pass, and shoot while in costume, adding a comical element to the game. The costume might include challenges like limited visibility or restricted mobility, making it a true test of hockey skills and comedic timing. Fans would surely enjoy watching their favorite players embrace their inner mascots, and it would create memorable moments and highlight the lighter side of the sport. Plus, it would give hockey a unique and entertaining twist, enhancing the overall fan experience and providing endless opportunities for hilarious antics and celebrations on the ice.
