S73 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview
#16

Lead by a large contingent of new players the future is now in Quebec. Although nearly half of the lineup could be highlighted as emerging stars, but three to look out for this coming season are Leo Roze, Sonya Solberg, and Juan Tymer.

Sonya Solberg is a small pass first winger known for her creative passing. She looks to be the key distributor of an all Norway line that is made up of fellow winger Shawn Pawn and centered by her sister Froya Solberg. Her electrifying passes will keep this high flying offensive line one of the most dangerous in the league.

Next, Latvian Leo Roze will be an anchor on the blueline. Tasked with playing a shutdown role behind the high flying Norwegians is no easy task for most defencemen but Roze makes things look easy. Roze, a towering 6'6 240lbs behemoth,  strikes fear into the eyes of any forward who tries to enter his zone. His rock solid defence is a key stabilizing force on a youthful blueline.

Finally we have Juan Tymer, a relative unknown prior to the draft joins the team fresh out of a Latvian beer league. Through the preseason he has shown flashes of why the citadels took a chance on him, showcasing games of excellent defensive form and skill. Unfortunately consistency has been an issue and some games he looks like a pilon. If he can adjust to the speed and skill of the J and show up consistently this defender could end up being the best in the SMJHL.

The Maine Timber have to, once again, be one of the favorites to walk away with it all given their experience and depth. Going into the S73 SMJHL Season, the team is stacked from top to bottom with vaunted veterans, talented rookies, and a management team with visions of being a powerhouse for a very long time. Within the team there are a few players that will have the biggest outcome on the season. Paramount among these is Mick Mayhem. Mick is a two way menace and a defender that sets the tone in every game. Being able to do everything, from zone exits to staunch hits and feathered passes. Mick will be setting the tone for the entire team. Next we have Jordan Thompson, not many players are as dynamic physically as Thompson, who is a 6'3" blazing monster on the ice with great touch. And our final player will be Shootin Blanks, who might be one of the best faceoff players in the entire SMJHL and a great head for offensive hockey. Not the best defensive player on the squad but someone that is always a threat when on the ice to score or set someone up for a scoring chance. Overall, Maine should be a dominant team with a lot of success coming their way.

There are obvious answers to who needs to perform to make Detroit a player again: Wayne Holloway, Zed Zilliams and Trevor Lahey, the team's longest-tenured players. But that's an answer that focuses solely on making them capable in this coming season, rather than making the Falcons capable of being successful across multiple seasons. Obviously, Will Tomlander has to be high on the list - as a top-tier prospect and #2 pick, Detroit have already invested heavily in the Swede being a key cog for the next couple of seasons and providing being a true offensive option on a team that had none to speak of. Mephistopheles Morgonstjarna, meanwhile, straddles the gap between rookie and veteran - his first season was far from poor, but a putrid -38 plus/minus has to be improved upon or he risks loses playing time to the younger defenseman. The Falcons look to him to provide a goal-scoring presence from the blueline and quarterback the powerplay, so 2 goals from last year despite averaging just under 2 minutes a game with a man advantage is not much of a result. Funnily enough, Martins Priede was a low draft pick but is already looking like he has the tools to usurp Mephi's status as powerplay quarterback with his own cannonball shot - getting regular play at at least average level from a late-round pick is how quality teams get made.

After playing a few games with them last season when things weren't looking quite as rosy, I'm really impressed with the way that the Detroit Falcons' roster is shaping up for this season. After a really impressive night at the draft a couple of weeks ago, the team's been able to add a deluge of legitimate talent to bolster their roster, in addition to a strong offseason of improvement for the veterans on the team. If I was to pick out a few individual names that have really caught my attention, Zedward Zilliams would definitely be up there. A very impressive defenseman entering the peak of his powers in the SMJHL, he's set to be the main piece on Detroi's blueline this season and should provide defensive stability combined with a ton of offensive potential. Another player I really like on the team is Trevor Lahey. A legitimate first line centre in the SMJHL, Lahey should dominate the face-off circle and put up a ton of points this season; I really expect him to be the driving force behind a large proportion of the goals the Falcons are able to put up. Finally, it's difficult to ignore the effect a great goalie has on a team and I firmly believe that Wayne Holloway falls into that category. He's up there with the very best in the league between the pipes, and should be a big factor in a lot of games for the Falcons this season, and if the team is to make a run into the playoffs, I really expect him to be the main factor behind that. All in all, this is a Falcons team that has the potential to win a bunch of games and could be a very fun roster to watch out on the ice this season!

The Detroit Falcons are hoping to start off the S73 SMJHL season strong after a disappointing end to last year. This time, they have three key factors added at the draft who will hopefully boost the team back into the hunt for the Four Star Cup.

Their highest pick this draft at second overall, Will Tomlander, is a scoring left winger who slots immediately into their second line, and so far has gone for a game per goal with a sky high shooting percentage. Most likely unsustainable, but a welcome improvement over the lackluster offense last year.

SIMO JÄÄSKELÄINEN, their second pick in the draft at 13th overall in the first round, is a defensive defenseman that they hope will protect the crease and clear out opposing forwards to let their star goalie Wayne Holloway see the incoming pucks. Holloway has proven that he can take on the heavy workload, but this addition hopefully lightens the shot volume against him a bit and lets Holloway concentrate on the high danger chances.

Emil Karlsson, their third pick in the draft at 16th overall, is a two way center who looks to boost the third line for the Falcons with his 200 foot game on the ice. This helps to shore up the third line which was not great last year, and allows for better line matching from the coaching staff against other teams in the league.

The Quebec Citadelles are looking good to start the season. Coming off a good stretch of season, I feel like our team is currently in a retool phase. Fortunately, we have a lot of hungry tpe earners in the team, which means we will improve a lot, and improve fast. Lot of players will have a strong impact in the season, Jaromir Jagrbomb is one of them, with a key role on offense and a fire name, I'm confident this guy will hurt the other team like 10 shots of jagermeister on a friday night. Also, our captain, Net Man, is a key player for our team. With a good mix of veterans from S71-72-73 and new blood from S74 should be good for the old city of Quebec. I'm not sure we will compete that much in the first part of the season, but we will be a hard team to beat at the end of the year. Hopefully, we will make some noise in the SHLM playoffs.

It's ok James, I can't read this in light mode
It's an inaugural season for Icee Richardson, the Mainer Timber. Im just about to get ready to carry Maine into another 4-star Cup. My key players for Maine's 4-Star Cup run will be our three captains: Mick Mayhem, Logan Webb, and Jordan Thompson. These three players will guide us and do big and great things on the ice, so we can take a dip into the 4-star Cup! GO TIMBER!  Timber

The team is actually looking really exciting already! We're starting the season with a max TPE top line and one max TPE defender. It'd be nice if we had a goalie who was also maxed but Akmetzhanov is a young goalie who is already shooting up the charts of draftees for the next season's SHL draft and is learning the ropes extremely fast.

I think there are two keys to winning a cup in any league. #1 is having veterans who can compete with the rest of the league's veterans. You need those top line players who can eat heavy minutes and put away goals with the best of them. #2 is the thing that really puts a team over the top, talented rookies. Players who come in and contribute above their peers to give the team an unexpected level of depth and talent compared to others. I see a huge opportunity for that with us. Cal Juice is already getting close to 250 TPE and there are 4 other rookies who are growing along with him. I think by the end of the season we should have a shot at the Four Stars Cup!

The Vancouver Whalers are definitely favorites to win this year's Four Star Cup, and there are several key players who will be driving the Whalers towards that goal.

Bob Wehadababyitsaboy
The 4th-year defenseman enters his age out season as the top defender in the Whalers lineup, coming off back to back 40 point seasons. Bob is a stout two-way defender, eating a lot of PK time, and still contributing over the full length of the ice. If he keeps it up this season, there's no reason the Whalers can't win it all.

Johnny FourStar
The 4th-year right winger enters the campaign after netting 86 points in his previous season. With the high octane offense Vancouver likes to run, expect to see Johnny on the wing of the first line, driving the goal scoring for the team.

Scary Jerry
The third in the trio of 4th-year players who lead this Vancouver squad, Scary Jerry is a stalwart presence in net. Coming off a solid 3rd season in the league, if he can improve on his numbers this season, he will be the wall in net that leads to a Cup for the Whalers.

As we gear up for the upcoming hockey season, optimism is running high for our team. Three key players who will undoubtedly play pivotal roles in our success are:

Barg Hazbite: A seasoned goal-scorer, Hazbite's offensive prowess brings a dynamic element to our forward line. His ability to find the back of the net, coupled with an impressive playmaking vision, will be crucial in breaking down opposing defenses.

Johnny Shuffleboard: Shuffleboard's defensive prowess and leadership on the blue line make him an indispensable asset. Known for his impeccable timing in intercepting passes and solidifying our defense, he ensures a strong backline that will be vital in thwarting the opposition's attacks.

Stun Gun: In the crease, Stun stands as our last line of defense. Known for his lightning-fast reflexes and remarkable saves, Stun instills confidence in the team and provides a foundation for success. His ability to come up big in pressure situations will be instrumental in securing crucial victories.

With this trio leading the charge, our team is poised for a thrilling and successful season ahead. Their unique skills and contributions will undoubtedly shape the team's performance and aspirations for championship glory.

Maine is poised to have another strong season and push for the cup with a strong group of veterans and many highly touted newcomers that were excellent value in the draft. 3 of the vets below will be the big contributors:

Logan Webb (LW) - Webb is undoubtable the offensive spark that's going to be needed to finish the puck in space and put points on the board. He's fast, hes got stamina, and his ability to read the game and get open will enable our playmakers to find him for the high percentage finishes.

Shootin Blanks © - Our Maestro in the middle, Blanks will be looking to take control of the 1st line with his strong passing and puck handling, setting up players like Webb above to makes those open looks they create in space. Blanks is also a very strong player from the faceoff and expects to win possession to keep the puck in the opponents defensive third.

Mick Mayhem (RD) - The most tenured and strongest defenseman on the roster, Mayhem is going to be called upon to anchor the team in the defensive third. With 2 rather raw Goalies, he's going to need to be in the right place at the right time to minimize shots on goal. An often overlooked aspect of his game is his ability to jumpstart the counter with his excellent offensive read and passing abilities. He might not be a blue line shooter, but he can move the puck to the open playmakers on the wings with ease.

I think its gonna be a pretty wild season. We went hard in the draft and found some killers in my opinion.  Obviously, its a little biased as we've already gotten a few sims under our belts, but it seems that these dudes are here to play.  I honestly think I, Deep Thought, am going to ball out (puck out?) this season as I already have double digit assists in just 10 games.  Once I start putting the puck in the net we couldbe talking rookie of the year!  Stun Gun is also gonna be a problem for the league as he's already putting up Vezina numbers with a 14.66 Goals saved above average. Seriously, thats effing insane.  Lastly, I think Fedot Fedorov is goin to be the MVP of the league.  He's been banging them in at a high clip already. I can't believe Im gonna say this but Gabe went nuts in this draft! Sco Boatz!

This being my first ever season with the Simulation Hockey League. I have no idea where we stood from last season. I know I could look, but I rather look at the now and into the future.

The Malamutes look promising, however there are some holes in the team. Not going to lie, it would be nice if we could roll four lines of forwards instead of 3. Other than that, though, the team is looking good. Obviously, we could be doing better at protecting or goalies in the defensive end.

Theodore Svatos - They are currently leading the league in points. They are poised to have a big season. It's one of the reasons why we are doing well.

Florian Söderberg-Motyla - An excellent center, currently doing well with faceoffs and is second in points on the team. Could do with better shooting.

Kristian Seppanen - Rounding it out. This defensman is looking promising. They are not afraid of putting the puck on net. Currently they have 4 goals, but at the same time, they are assisting on the blue line with great passing.

The last time I was on a forum like this was when I was 20.

For the upcoming season, the three people that will be crucial for us to have a successful season will be Net Man, Jeff Hunziker and Jaromir Jagrbomb.

Net man will be the most crucial, because as the captain, he will be pivotal in the success starting from the locker room, all the way to covering the net. Being able to stand on there head and keep us in games will be crucial as a team with a lot of young guns.

Hunziker will also be crucial as we are expecting them to be near the top of the scoring for the team which we will desperately need with some young defenseman on the team.

Finally we have Jagrbomb who is the kingpin on the defensive side of the ice. As one of our top pairing defense, it is their responsibility to be able to lead the young rookies and stop the opposing teams top lines by shuting them down as much as possilbe, while also logging 20-25 minutes a night.

QCC isn’t expecting huge things but we are also ready for whatever is thrown at us. Just because we’re not favorites for a cup doesn’t mean we can’t make a run. Net Man is the obvious tenant of the team, holding down the fort in the back. A major part of our team is the huge rookie class. Leo Roze and Juan Tymer will be looking to shut down the opposition at the blue line, using their chemistry as both being Latvian defenders drafted to QCC. Roze will focus more on the defense with Tymer playing a more balanced role attacking and defending. the Solberg twins doing their best to put up points up front are also going to be ones to watch as they look to prove themselves, and maybe out compete their twins those two duos could be key to the success of QCC, and if they both click, could cause some serious damage.
