(G)Deep Dive 2: Colorado's Fangs and Failures, Could they be a Team to Watch Out For?

It’s no surprise that the Colorado Raptors aren’t breaking any records this year. With a below average 15-17-2 record halfway through the season and an unfortunate 22-38-6 and 24-38-4 record the past two seasons prior things haven’t been looking great for the Raptors in the past few years. With the winds of change that are S73 blowing, will that remain the case for long?

Firstly let’s look at Colorado’s failures. To be stuck at the bottom of the standings for a period of 3 years in such a volatile league that has massive powershifts every season means that something must have gone terribly wrong in their attempts to rebuild. Looking at the roster of players Colorado has had throughout these three years shows us strong evidence that unfortunately Colorado has not had a good track record of motivated players.

This is especially apparent at the goalie position where Colorado has had the tandem of Ryan Burton and Jaxon Markstrom who seemed completely unmotivated to improve and looked to be at the same level they started at back in S72 and S71. Luckily for the Raptors, this year they’ve drafted goaltending prospect Tanner Pitts who has definitely shown to be improving massively since the start of the season. If they stay motivated, they could become Colorado’s starter for the future.

People often follow the example left before them and the same could very much be said about Colorado’s locker room. Only when enough new blood or a powerful new voice can the winds of change be brought. The Raptors have new leadership this year who have been setting the new example to follow, to motivate their new rookies.

Newest Colorado captain Jussi Mutou was last year’s Esa Anrikkanen winner and solidified themselves as a Locker Room blessing according to Colorado Co-GM Takk. Former captain Update Portal willingly even after winning the Jack Cross gave up the captaincy to Mutou as Portal felt like Mutou was just that important to the Locker Room. Alongside captain Mutou, Portal wears one of the As as well as 3rd overall selection in the S73 SMJHL draft Nick Kodiak who immediately gained the trust of their teammates. We’ve had word from Co-GM Takk that they are 100% confident that Kodiak will show tremendous leadership and heart in their role and are excited to see how far the rookie alternate captain will go.

This group of fantastic leaders are definitely the main Fangs of Colorado, sharp, strong and willing to help the rest of the team grow to its potential. And with many new great rookies such as Tanner Pitts, Shadow Fenix, Brandon Gilleyes and… an orange traffic cone named Oranj Konhe, the city of Colorado seems poised to obtain their first Four Star Cup since season 27, second in history. The Raptors will try their best to sharpen their fangs and claws in preparation for their next cup win. As Co-GM Takk has mentioned, the SMJHL should be careful as a group of Apex Predators may be coming soon.

502 or 521 words (The site word counter says 521 but my external says 502? I'm not sure why.)

EDIT: I DID AN OOPSIE BUT IT'S FINE NOW, I changed some wording, still 502 words on my word counter.
