a. Two old faces are back in the ring, proving reports of the dynasty’s demise were greatly exaggerated! Pick either of our finalists, and tell me what about them impresses you the most!
The wolfpack is back at it after a substandard season where their luck was statistically low. In this playoff their D-Core has once again stepped up and have been acting as 6 extra goalies for teams to get through. The wolves are outscoring their opponents and out shot blocking them at every turn.
b. Upsets were a theme this year - which of our finalists had the more difficult road to the promised land and why?
New England had the most difficult road. A surging Hamilton, a resplendent Buffalo, and a seasonal rival in Philadelphia were all in the way of their ascension back to the finals round. These were all stellar teams in the regular season that could have easily been considered cup contenders in their own rights.
c. Which of the finalists had the more impressive conference finals victory, and why?
SFP going deep was in no ones books, their luck ran out and WPG ran them over like intended. Maybe next season people take them more seriously. That being said, New England had a way more impressive victory by taking down Philadelphia. Every other season has seen these two teams trading off the conference finals from each other and its always close and always brutal.
d. If it ain't broke don't fix it: Who you got? Who wins? Why?
New England all day every day. They are scoring more goals, they are riding high on Olof and his amazing save percentage, and their defensive core is contributing to points. Seamus himself is leading all defense in scoring where in previous seasons he has been invisible. That alone should be enough to show that New England is here to play and stay.

3. Written, 3 TPE, Haven’t I Seen This Before? (150 words min.)
Despite being the 8th and 10th ranked regular season teams in the league, our finalists from Winnipeg and New England represent two of the most dominant teams over the past several seasons. What do you think is the secret to their success? What can other teams learn from them? Which one is more likely to be back again next year?

The secret to success is having good management. The GMs are engaging and keep their players cycled in and out with talent and growth. What interesting about Winnipeg's run is that they were not the top in anything. They did not have anyone in the top 10 in scoring, they did not have great defensive success, but they did have everyone contributing to the overall effort. I think that is the secret of success that New England is playing with as well. Many teams have some super stars and run the offense through those individuals, but these two teams see team success. Live or die as one and they all stepped up going into the postseason and beyond. That being said, the two teams are built so differently in their playing styles that it just goes to show that this league has achieved parity by everyone building their own optimizations. I think realistically we see both of these teams back on the top next season with making serious pushes for the cup again.

A) I have to pick New England for most impressive. I mean at the time off writing this they already won the cup. They finished ninth one seed above Winnipeg but they beat Buffalo and Philadelphia the second and third best team in the league and they did it with only three losses to both of them.

B) I kind of just wrote about this in the last topic but again it was New England. Buffalo and Philadelphia second and third best teams in the regular season, Winnipeg best two wins where beating Texas and Chicago. Those two where only the sixth and seventh best team. Unfortunately neither team beat the top seed in Edmonton.

C) Yet again I have to pick New England and for basically the same reasons I've already mentioned. Philadelphia was the third best team and New England won in six games a comfortable season. San Francisco was the 14th best team so Winnipeg was the higher seed and favorites in that match up so I can't pick them.

D) Well the finals are already over as the time of writing this but if you asked me before the series I would have picked Winnipeg to win due to wanting Sydney Shaw to win the cup. Logically though I would say New England was the favorites but yeah I'm biased.

An impressive string of upsets took place this season, especially in the West with San Francisco’s Cinderella run. Which upset series impressed you most, why, and what in that series sticks out most in your memory? For the purposes of this task, any series won by the lower seed is an upset.

I mean you have to pick San Francisco over Edmonton right? Its the obvious choice as the most impressive upset clearly. If it was the most impressive run then its hands down New England run as they actually completed a Cinderella run this playoffs wining the cup. Still the most impressive upset was San Francisco win over Edmonton. Like come on the fourteenth seed beating the number one seed is crazy! Not to mention San Francisco won the series four to two having a game to spare. San Francisco started the series verses Edmonton perfectly with a guts overtime win followed by a seven to two blow put San Francisco in the driver seat. They then went on to loose a blow out to Edmonton in game three but bounced back with five to two win in game four to make the series a comfortable three to one. They then loose a close one and then win a close one to complete the very impressive upset. It might be the biggest upset in SHL in the playoffs.

Xavier Beausoleil will be an interesting addition to the French team when he finally makes the jump. He has been a great contributor to the Rhine team for the past three seasons, especially offensively. France is about middle of the pack when it comes to scoring but having more scorers on our squad is really going to help us take our team to the next level and hopefully go deeper in the medal rounds. He also will add physicality to our team, which we can always use more of. If his numbers in the WJC aren't enough to convince you of his potential, he's been tearing it up with the Colorado Raptors, having 229 points in 198 games played. It'll be great to have him as a teammate both in France and in Minnesota.

Oh my God! [NEW ENGLAND WOLFPACK] won the Challenge Cup! Another Winnipeg Aurora/New England Wolfpack final! How exciting! The Wolfpack just kinda steamrolled their way to the title. All of their players contributed. The Aurora have an incredible roster obviously but with 3 players over a point per game to the Wolfpack's 6, it's easy to understand why New England has been so dominant. Even defensively, New England has been brilliant. They made the necessary sacrifices, blocking tons of shots and they managed to keep their game clean. Both teams seemed evenly matched in terms of physicality but ultimately it didn't help the Aurora come out on top.

Task 1:

Verification Word: Monarchs

Task 3:

It is pretty easy to just admit that both these teams are really good playoff teams. They just know how to win in the postseason. I am not sure if FHM has a hidden ‘Good at Playoffs’ stat or what. Whatever the reason is, they both are exciting to watch. Maybe there is a chemistry thing going on with players and playoff performances. Regardless of what hidden thing is going on, they keep winning and keep making it interesting for the other teams that finished above them in the standings. Other teams should figure out how to get really good chemistry between their lines and figure out how to become dominant in the playoffs. Easy, right? TO be honest, I do not even know where to begin with lines and strategies anymore. I used to know a bit, but not anymore. I think between New England and Winnipeg, New England has the better chance to make it to the finals again. Not saying Winnipeg cannot, they have done it many times before, just more that New England is deadly right now more than ever.
[184]

Task 12:
Well would you look at that, New England pulls off the win versus a very strong Winnipeg team. My favorite part was when I searched up in the index who won the Challenge Cup real quick before typing this all out. I just do not watch the sims. I like seeing the results, but not so much the sims. They just do not hold my interest very long. Besides, it was not the Monarchs in the playoffs so why bother? Judging by the scores, it seems like Winnipeg could not buy a goal to save their chances. Maybe New England found a way to shut them down and still put the numbers up that they needed to succeed.

CW Trivia: Verif Code Stone

Grab Bag:
B - I think New England easily had a much tougher road to the Cup Finals as they had to go through Buffalo and Philadelphia to make it.  Those were the #2 and #3 teams in the league respectively in points.  Winnipeg meanwhile had Chicago and Texas, both of whom were >10 points below Buffalo and Philadelphia in the standings, including Chicago who only had a +18 goal differential.
C - New England had to face Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference Finals, who were the best team in the East and 2nd best in the entire SHL.  Winnipeg on the other hand had to face a 14th ranked San Francisco team who was punching above their weight with their upset over Edmonton.  To be fair,  San Francisco's upset over Edmonton was more impressive than New England's over Philadelphia due to how much of a talent difference existed between the teams.

10. I am suspect of saying this but I have some belief that Czechia will be a surprise dark horse team in the IIHF tournament. Considering the team's efforts in bringing players to represent them (including yours truly, unsurprisingly), I think that there is a good chance that they will improve in recent performances and present a decent showing, one that most people would not give them the time of the day of getting.

Even if they do not get that amazing performance right out of the gate, they still have plenty of time with a young group of players on the wings that could become a big deal if nurtured just right. I guess it is up to the players to foster themselves just right but I imagine there will be some sort of unity in that team to improve and conquer things in the right time. Would not say it is a bet but... we shall see.

12. If I must say, I do not happen to be shocked that New England won it. I mean, they won by like... four games to two? Good on Winnipeg for making it rather competitive all things considered but that was more or less it. Doubt there was much you could do to change it besides doing better than they have done... even then, that would probably have only brought minimal improvement. The thing was set in stone, you see? Still, congrats to them, I guess. I dunno, I didn't watch the series since it's summer down here and anyone who's shared a locker room with me knows that Brazilian summer is basically a lottery between crazy heat or heavy storms. Sorry about that.

a.  (1 TPE)

In a rematch of the season 72 finals we have the Wolfpack vs the Aurora. Whats not to be impressed with. Both teams have proven to have longevity but also were in the semi finals both the season in between. The most impressive feat is Winnipeg has been to the finals every season since 69 missing just the one year

b  (1 TPE)

Looking back on this last seasons playoffs it definitely was a season of upsets but by far New England had the tougher road to the championship. After winning the first round against 13 ranked Hamilton, the 10th seeded Wolfpack then had to go through #2 Buffalo and #3 Philadelphia, before facing #10 Winnipeg in the finals.

c. (1 TPE)

Well obviously the New England Wolfpack with a 4-2 series victory over the heavily favored #2 ranked Philadelphia Forge would be the most impressive Conference Finals. That’s not to take away from Winnipeg’s impressive run through the playoffs but New England’s path would seem  much tougher on paper by far

d. (1 TPE)

Well my heart says Winnipeg wins, just based on the fact of the success longevity that they have had since season 69, but head brain says New England just based on the quality of the teams that they have gone through. The fact that they have gone through the stronger teams should mean they have the momentum on their sides. So my final guess is New England over Winnipeg

5 (3 TPE)
If I had to be completely honest the most impressive series would have to be the complete shock of the Pride knocking off the Blizzard in 6 games. To start with the looks if the regular season standings the points difference between the Blizzard with 105 points and the Pride with 67 points is a David vs Goliath battle of the ages. That is a 38 point difference which is absolutely massive.  To go to the playoffs and have the Pride win 4 out of 6 games, sure two of their victories were in OT, but two of them were by combined goal differential of 8 goals which is pretty large( 7-2 and 5-2). The series was 100% a battle and the Pride earned every single game that they won through sheer determination and grit. I am sure it is not what the Blizzard had expected, as I am sure they waltzed in thinking it was going to be a cake walk, especially after sweeping Minnesota in 4 straight the round previous.
