S75 PT#2: Bobby Oh-Boy Due: Monday, February 26th @ 11:59pm PST

How do you train skating? Well, I really think there's a lot of ways to do that. The way that Bayle does this is by doing copious amounts of leg workouts. We are talking about having leg workouts that last a couple hours at least and also go for a week straight. I think it's also important to do upper body, but if we are trying to get faster to keep up with the other players in the SHL, it will be important to trust the lower body and just do a lot of workouts with the legs. I also think it's important to work on hamstrings, back, and glutes as those will help with skating and being able to drive with the legs to go quicker and skate faster. Those are easy ways to get better and go faster. That is how to score and out pace everyone on the ice. You have to work hard.

Well that would be a surprise to say the least. Although I did have a great playoff and my team would know I am capable of pulling off those types of moves, I think it would raise some eyebrows at practice and it would also surprise the goaltender. Considering that I am more of a two way center and try to play a game that benefits our team on both ends of the ice, the offensive part of the game gets a little forgotten when I’m always thinking of playing defense first. It would be a good change to my game, especially with the final stretch of the season coming and New England is fighting for that top spot. We are a little away of first but if we can create that gap in our division and slowly approach the top of the conference, it would make for an interesting last couple of games of the season.

Written Task: How does your player train skating? Leg workouts? Bag skates for days? Some combination of the above? As before, your player does not need to be correct. Feel free to write absolute madness, flex your knowledge of real-world athletic training, or anywhere in between.

Ever since he started his hockey career at the tender age of 10, skating has been Levin's strong suit. However, it wasn't thanks to anything done on the rink itself, but due to the fact that he had been hiking a lot in his youth, which helped develop his core strength and leg strength - so when he started skating, he already had innate explosiveness as his strides were powerful enough to make him reach his top speed within 3 strides. Ever since then, he has taken a liking to off-ice activities that will help him work on his leg strength without having to bag skate or use gym elastics - he is still a hiking enthusiast, but he has also started practising at the 110m hurdles with the athletics' team at USF, in order to build even more core strength, as well as playing a lot of tennis in the off-season. He loves playing tennis because, as was stated last week, it helps him improve his hand-eye coordination, but the amount of lateral movements and the stop-and-go nature of the sport has helped him work on his explosiveness and acceleration, which translates very well on the ice.

Option 1:

Shadow Fenix's teammates stood with jaws open after what they had just witnessed. "Fenix!" the coach yelled, "Get over here!"

Of course Shadow Fenix skated over to the coach, unsure of if what he did would have serious repercussions. I mean, he scored the goal, but he embarrassed the defense and goalie, just like Bobby Orr used to do back in the day. Fenix took a big gulp as the coach spoke. "That was a damn good shot, keep it up." the coach said.

Fenix let out of laugh. All it was was a silly comment, and then business as usual. Because that was the thing with Shadow Fenix. He was scoring like this with his linemates game after game. It was the only way he could be near the lead for points in the league, and his teammates all knew it. They were still impressed, but at the end of the day, it really was business as usual.

Jesus Murphy subscribes to the age old training philosophy of picking heavy things up and putting them down. As such, he's taken to modifying his workouts to include significant weight training aspects. He is famous among his teammates and offseason training partners for not doing anything without a weight vest on, and he's even been seen doing weight-focused crossfit training during the summer, where he is often seen carrying an assortment of heavy items on his back while sprinting up hills or through sand. Murphy has always said that he trains himself to the point of exhaustion so that he gets used to being exhausted and learns to function in spite of it, meaning that during a long season, no matter how beat up he is physically, his body can still do everything it needs to do without fail. With the massive amount of strength he has put on even as a teenager, it won't be long before he becomes something of a bull in a china shop in the SHL.

Option 1:

After Bobby score this amazing goal in practice all his teammates and coaches go crazy, Bobby just shrugs it off as if nothing happened. It's clear that Bobby Orr gave Bobby some good advice but this doesn't change anything for Bobby. Bobby doesn't even think for a second that he needs to change the way he plays as he's always pride himself playing the right ways and practicing the right way. Bobby will never change from being a Hard-nosed player, the only thing he considered changing is having better results as he gets himself out of slump. Bobby thinks about the paranormal experience he encountered with Bobby Orr and hopes it never happens again. Ghosts are scary and even though Bobby is a tough hockey player he doesn't want to see another ghost in his life. That concludes the saga of Bobby Tkachuky meeting the ghost of Bobby Orr... unless there is another ghost tpe writing.

Option 1:

Considering the Brooklyn Physt is the current leading defenceman in the SMJHAL in both points and goals. Good old Bobby Orr’s play style feels like exactly how she would play on the ice. Thanks to that this is not all of that uncommon for her especially, in practice, but it is a little extra pep in the step and continues to foster the feel good vibes. Shockingly it’s another ordinary day at the office for her and the rest of the Dino Gang. However it always makes you feel good when, what should be the best goaltender in the junior league right now can still be made to look silly by you.

The Colorado Raptors are certainly the current benefactors of Brooklyn Physt’s growth into the potential she showed when drafted all the way back before the S72 season. Flashes of brilliance she showed during her 7 game stint with Anchorage in S71, and finally the potential that lead the Toronto North Stars to drafting the flashy defender in round 1.

Edouard Lavoie spends his time training with his linemates, Mia Lavoie and JJ Frankie JJ. The trio works hard during the season and outside of it to be one of the most consistent and well rounded lines in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League. With Mia's speed, JJ's strength, and Edouard's faceoff skills, the trio of Quebecois are a menace to opposing teams. Since they have been working together so long, they know exactly where their partners will be and are able to more easily combine for scoring opportunities as well as assist the Timber defenseman when the opposing team controls the puck. Edouard spends a good chunk of his time on face offs to ensure his team wins the draw more often than not, and also works to get deep into the opposing zone by focusing on his speed and zone read on top of his physical training. He watches a ton of tape to determine where to be and when to get there.

Option 2

I think the leg training goes in many different forms. Leg workouts every other day that there isn't a game is one of my big ones. I try to alternate which muscles get work like thighs and hamstrings on one day then calves and everything in the feet another. Throughout the season skating on game days is pretty big anyways so there's not too much else you have to do other than try not to wear yourself out. If we have any breaks for more than like 3 days then I'll try to get a leg workout in if I can. Running is also huge to keep that cardio up and keep those legs as strong as they can be. Skating I also try to work on my finesse on the skates as I want to be able to do the things my brain thinks on the ice and not just skate around all slowly, turning like an 18 wheeler in the snow trying to u turn on the highway.

There might truly be nothing more important to Fiorentini's skating repertoire than acceleration and edgework. As such, those are the two biggest things that Benny aims to get after. From an edgework standpoint, there is a lot of focus on C cuts, edge kicks, and single edge long-length distances. Keeping his ability to move quickly on the edges is about as important as it gets. From an acceleration standpoint, it's every trick in the book. Running starts, quick stops into push-off lengths--but also, always training legs hard during lifts and especially during the offseason. Squats in partial, full, and extended range, consistent interval training during running, fartleks especially, and a personal favorite: the parachute. No particular reason why, there's just something inherently funny in running quickly with a big parachute strapped to your back.

Other than that though, nothing too crazy in his skating training repertoire. The best practice is game time and there's plenty of game time.

I think that offensive flash is something that every player experiences at some point in their career. I think the timing is a little strange, seeing as Bobby Orr came to randomly speak to me last week, but overall I think the way I play my game is how I want to continue playing my game. I have offensive abilities, but my strength lies in being able to shut oppositions down and help my team recover pucks and get us in the offensive zone as much as possible. I chip in where I can offensively, but to me, the less time we’re in our own end, the less likely you are to give up goals.

These ghost encounters are quite strange, however I do wish to know who will visit me next, if I continue to be a target of these. I love the older hockey guys, and would love to know who wants to give some wisdom to me and my game. It surely can’t hurt.

philippe eko eel has had a realization that he may be better equipped to play forward than defense. but this realization comes not from practice prangs and dekes gone right, but rather a look to the future of the atlanta inferno franchise. see, philippe eko eel has a unique perspective on the outlook of the team since, unlike the other players, he is me and i am the GM of the team! in this case, eel has a particular awareness of the organizational depth at the defense position, with prospects like sim wen, dan johnston, kristian seppanen, trent wiseman, and paul bondage. chances are, these big d boys will be leading the position for years to come, and there may no longer be room for old man eel. for this reason, eel is aware that he may have to switch to forward in future seasons, so his practice handles and emphasis on scoring may indeed be an accurate look to the future. philippe eko orr
