S75 PT#5: Who you gonna call? Due: Sunday, March 17th @ 11:59 PM PST
#1

Please pick ONE prompt to write about. Do not mix and match prompts. Identify the prompt you are using in your submission - Copying and pasting the prompt will deduct from your word count so if you do this make sure YOUR submission is 150+ words excluding the prompt.

Option 1:

Written Task: For most of the season your player has been struggling to have restful nights sleep as ghosts have been visiting their dreams. At this point there is no longer doubt about it, the home of your player must be haunted.

Is it time to call an exorcist or maybe a real estate agent and get rid of the house? Maybe just burn it all down and move as far as possible? Maybe your player is more business minded and they might instead take the opportunity to sets up real haunted house or start a company for ghost busting, something with cool name and a catchy theme song, as they cannot be only ones with this problem.

What does your player do and how it goes?

Graphic Task: Create a graphic showing your player dealing with the ghosts.

Option 2:

Written Task: Offseason is good time to call your agent to make sure you both are on same page about your players career and any potential moves or upcoming contract negotiations that could be done during next season(s).

Agent could be someone who has been with your player since the beginning, relative or a old friend, or maybe a professional who oversees the finances of 20 or so other SHL players (while siphoning money from them all to buy more cards). They might only be hired for the contract negotiations or they might be just a call away to help your player with any problem they can think of.

Who is your player’s agent and what they do (and have done) for your player? If your player doesn't have an agent tell us why they don't.

Graphic Task: Create a graphic showing your player meeting with their agent.

You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all requirements.

All responses are due on Sunday, March 17th at 11:59 PST. NOTE: IF YOU SUBMIT/EDIT AFTER THE DEADLINE YOU WILL RECEIVE REDUCED/NO TPE.

Affiliate claims from either PBE or ISFL or WSLB or SSL are accepted; link directly to your post and note if your username is different there.

If you have any questions/concerns, please PM me. Tasks with malicious intent will not be graded. The graders reserve the right to determine malicious intent, after discussion with me. You will not be warned.

This task is for SHL players and send downs only. If your player is S76 or S77, that's not you.

Task 2:

William Salming is a very experienced player already. He has played over 1000 SHL games in the great Seattle Argonauts. You could think he can handle his own business and contract negotiations but that is not the case. An athlete needs to have a peaceful mind to be able to perform at the elite level night after night and day after day. That's why every athlete should have an own agent. Also William Salming has an ice-hockey agent. They have worked together since the beginning of the career of Salming. They met in Finland just before Salming decided to leave juniors rinks in Finland and move to the Quebec City. The name of the agent is Teemu Selanne. His contacts around the global hockey world has been very important for Salming because thanks to Selanne, Salming has got some professional help for example for his summer training. Selanne also helps Salming to plan traveling to international tournaments after the SHL season and gives him good playing tips during the season to boost individual performances on the ice.

Opt 1

As far for those ghosts who have visited Georg's dreams for the past month or so, calling the exorcist to get rid of them would not be ideal. N'Zola really loves ghosts and anything spooky, thats probably the main reason why his favorite movie genre has been and always will be horror and thriller which share the first podium spot equally. Georg will now take this opportunity he has been given to start his very own haunted mansion business. People and especially hockey fanatics who want to see their favorite players one last time come there from all over the world to visit his home to do so. Some say it is all a hoax, but for those selected few Georg will provide a free experience for them to see for their own eyes that it is not a hoax at all, but more or less a blessed opportunity from the hockey gods themselves. After starting his business, Georg can now retire completely after his hockey career is over, since the haunted mansion business is doing so well. He eventually had plans on selling it for big bucks, but came to his senses to make it his lifelong goal to keep the business alive

Troy McClure IIII learned the shl business from his father, Troy McClure III. The business side of hockey can be brutal if you let it. Sly contracts, doubling talking GMs and a million suggestions from a million teammates / friends / fans with no one who has anything on the line about that decision. The facts are the following : 1. keep training, keep growing, get good enough to demand anything you want. 2. After you are good, keep going to get even better. 3. The money doesn't matter, all that matters is success. How you measure that success matters. If you put your team in the best position possible when you are on the ice, I call that success. If you are a liability on the ice, you gotta go back to step 1. Once you are the best, you tell your gm and teammates thank you, and keep working your butt off until you can retire. Make your money then, sell your self for advertisements.

Also Troy McClure Jr had an agent, who made 40%. Once Jr saw that money gone, he stopped trying.

Option 2:

Marcel Beck has a fantastic agent named Gary Bettman. He is actually the agent for most of the players on the Winnipeg Aurora. Because he is such a straight shooter, he is often at odds with @Ace and @RashfordU. Bettman says "pay Beck and buddies double what they are worth or else we're moving to the desert!" Eventually management has to cave because they know how great the crew is and don't want to lose us. But, magically, after behind-closed-doors talks, the contracts always come back exactly the same based on our skill level. Bettman is a fierce fighter for our rights, but also realizes that we will be paid the exact same amount elsewhere. In the end, all the hoopla ends up working itself out and the greatest service Bettman, our agent, plays for us is posting "accept" on all of our contract feeds. We, the players, don't even sign them!

After a good meeting last week, Luca Pane and his agent have come up with a game plan for this offseason. You see, Luca has expressed concern over his future on the Monarchs. His agent, Nicholas Williams who played nearly 30 seasons ago, was quick to give him all the options available. Option 1, re-sign with Minnesota for one season and see how things go. Option 2, test the waters in free agency. See who bites and what they have to offer. That was basically all there was to offer. After a 2 hour long meeting discussing pros and cons of either option, they both came out with an answer. Luca Pane will be testing free agency and go through contract negotiations with another team. Luca knows he can be a final piece to a roster that can change everything. Now the agent just needs to get him some money. Williams has been around the league for a while and has always led Luca to the right decision.

Task 2:

Karter Mendenhall knows hockey inside and out, but that doesn't mean he knows everything about economics and business. At the end of the day, he only went to college because he was given a scholarship to play. He has an agent who knows the dirty side of the business and can make sure Karter can get paid well. His name is Tony Soprano and he's one hell of an agent. He isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and do hard negotiations with a GM. Karter knows how hockey is. It's a dangerous sport and he puts his body on the line, so he has to make sure he has an agent who can make him a decent chunk of money just in case anything bad is to happen to his client. Karter didn't have an agent until he was drafted. Mr Soprano was recommended to Karter by the management of the Chicago Syndicate, and he hasn't regretted his decision to have Mr. Soprano yet.

Option 2:

To this point in his career, Marek Carda has been working primarily with his mother as acting agent. In the SMJHL, contracts are relatively standard, and the same applies to entry level deals in the SHL. Coming from an entrepreneurial family, Carda has grown up around the family business, a brewery, in which his father is the mastermind behind the beer while his mother runs business operations. With a sharp tactical and financial mind, Mrs. Carda was the natural choice to help get Marek’s career off the ground. While the workload so far has been light, with Marek just wrapping up his third season with the Detroit Falcons, things may be on the verge of becoming more complicated. First there is the SMJHL expansion draft to deal with. While Carda might be protected, it depends on the priorities of the team with a maximum of one season remaining in his J career. If he goes unprotected, his experience could bolster the legitimacy of any expansion team’s roster. Beyond that, Carda will be graduating to the SHL soon, where he is currently property of the Philadelphia Forge. Currently, this team has a full roster of talent, with many other promising prospects in the system who will be vying for what few openings may come about. With this many unknowns over the next season or two, it seems that Mama Carda is about to take on a bit more responsibility in her role should Marek choose to keep it in the family!

For most of the season your player has been struggling to have restful nights sleep as ghosts have been visiting their dreams. At this point there is no longer doubt about it, the home of your player must be haunted.

Maybe your player is more business minded and they might instead take the opportunity to sets up real haunted house or start a company for ghost busting, something with cool name and a catchy theme song, as they cannot be only ones with this problem.

What does your player do and how it goes?

The ghosts are neither here nor there.  They seem to come from everywhere.  From in the past and in the future, almost as annoying as a suture.  My house!  My house! a peanut cries as he does not want to say goodbye.  "What shall I do" he sits and ponders, thinking and straining about this newfound wonder.  "Monetization" he thinks most excitedly and blinks, "I shall be lucrative with this" he exclaims, a new income stream not to miss.

He wanders his home shouting for them to come "Dear ghosts!  Dear ghosts!  Your work is yet undone!".  Over hours he searches and calls out their name, hoping they would not hide in shame.  Soon though they wouldn't disappoint, as they floated around the table to hear the talking points.

"Apparitions you are" the peanut gleefully cheered.  "People will come near and come far, to see who you are!  They will wander here and wander there and some might even come to sit in that chair!  What they'll search for you've already given me, is guidance in hockey...albeit supernaturally!  They'll do so willingly and will pay handsomely too.  Pay that I'll share with the ancestors of you!"

The ghosts looked at each other, an interesting proposal indeed.  Their hauntings have truly inspired this seed.  They nodded in agreement and the plan was laid out, the business to be called "John Peanut's Hockey Freak out!"

Option 1

Being visited by a series of ghosts wasn't something that Emil Karlsson had on his S75 bingo card, but in this game you've just gotta roll with the punches and deal with what comes at you. This will be Emil's last season in Detroit, so thankfully he's going to be able to sell the haunted house in question without there being too much suspicion as to his motives, and some other person will be forced to deal with the machinations of the otherworldly spirits that have plagued his life of late. Although he considered engaging with Ghostbusters, as he is a big admirer of Bill Murray and his work, Emil ultimately decided that the more practical, cost-effective and pragmatic solution to his problem was to simply leave it for someone else to resolve, and to move on with his life as if nothing has happened. After the most recent visit from a ghost, Emil decided to temporarily relocate to a hotel for the conclusion of the playoffs, where he will remain before moving straight to his new place in Montreal. Hopefully the realtor is able to get the sale through without any issues and before you know it, someone else will be having trouble sleeping at night.
