Welcome to All Star Week!
The maximum is 8 TPE. Mix and match whatever tasks you desire, but the maximum TPE to be earned from this is 8.
The deadline is Sunday June 2nd at 11:59pm PST.
Please copy/paste the prompts (including the # of TPE) into your post; it makes it much easier to grade and track.
This PT is for SHL players and send-downs only. If your player is S77 or S78, that's not you.
One (1) affiliate claim from either PBE, WSBL, SSL, or the ISFL will be accepted for 3 TPE! *if you’re claiming this and have a different username on the affiliate's site then you need to state that in your post to get credit.*
Please feel free to PM with any questions or concerns.
Link your Milestone claim as task 1 for up to 3 TPE towards your 8 total.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Post your claim in the milestones thread for tpe earned per stat, and then link that post in your ASW submission. This is done because the person who grades ASW will be a different person than double-checks milestones.
If you player is drafted to SHL, but still plays in SMJHL do the SMHJL milestones.
2. Written, up to 4 TPE - Shiny Grab Bag: Pick up to 4 topics related to the All Star Game to write about! Each topic is worth 1 TPE. Each answer must be 50+ words.
a. Which of the three Montreal players would have been best addition to either of the teams?
b. Nash Topalo and Seamus O'Slapahan were only defencemen picked in top 10. Were they two best options this season? Should there have been more picked early on?
c. Which of the teams could have better top line (center and two wingers), WhiteFuzz with Johnny Wagner-Svenson - Viktor Hargreeves - Antoine Beauregard or JRuke with Erik Bergmark - Derek Martin - Aksel Fiske? Why you think they are better?
d. Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz and Sir Devoir were picked with back to back picks and thus both teams secured their started. Does either side have advantage on net? Back up goalies were picked lot later, do you think they can play role in the game at all?
e. Why should YOUR player have made the all star game, and why should you be the last man in? (If your player did make the all star game, tell us why they were picked.)

Tell me about your teammate who made the all star game! Who are they, why were they an obvious choice to make the All Star roster, and what do you expect from them this ASG? (If more than one of your teammates made the game, pick one of those players other than yourself. If you are the only player on your team selected for the all star game so far, write about your team's candidate for last man in instead.)

4. Written, 3 TPE, It is the draft season (150 words min.)
This season we saw huge changes on how All-Star teams were formed. How do you like the new draft format for all-star teams? Do you think it is good that committee picks the pool from which the players are drafter? Should there be more players from each team on the pool? Are last season cup finalist good picks for selecting the players?
5. Written, 3 TPE, Let me do it (150 words min.)
Anyone who was in drafting pool, but was not selected for All-Star game will take part in skill competition instead (and don’t really know what how that will end up looking like). But all of those players got close but ultimately were passed on by GMs making the picks. But what they got wrong? Who from skill competition should have been in All-star game and who would you replace to make room for them?

I don't think either side really has any advantage. Both are good goalies, but we know that FHM doesn't really care so it will depend a lot more on the rest of the team who has the advantage. And yes, I believe even the backup goalies should play a role. They should split the time between both goalies per team, but this probably isn't possible in a simulated game (unfortunately).

> Can we stop calling this "last man in"? I thought we had settled on "last player in". But back to topic:
My player didn't make it to the All-Star Game, but to the Skills Competition, so I don't know how exactly I should answer this. Do those count here or not? For goalies there is always a limited amount of spots and I think they should pick the best ones for the game. I would've been happy to be on the roster that plays the game, but I'm not really upset that I'm not.

The league has multiple awards, yet there is always room for improvement. What award would you add? Why that award and who it would be named after? Or which of the current awards would you change? How would you change it and why?
The most 'sustainable' player:
The award will go to the player in the league who uses or breaks the least amount of equipment in a season. We all know how players constantly break their sticks - some definitely more of them than others - or go through several pairs of skates or gloves in a season, just to give some examples. This award will go to the player who is most 'careful' with their equipment and causes the least amount of equipment to be thrown away. Maybe they just pick brands that hold up better or they find a way to glue sticks back together (does that work? what do I know, probably not, but that's not the point). It wouldn't really be an award named after any particular person and it's nothing you can track in a simulated league either as we don't really have physical equipment to use or destroy, but everything here is supposed to be hypothetical anyway.

a) Probably right winger Damien Hirano. He is a natural and pure goal scorer. They are always helpful in All-Star games where stakes are extrremely high. It is all about pride. You don't want to lose to another conference. It is a shame if that happens so Hirano as a former snowboarded would help both teams. That is my honest opinion. b) I know mr. Topalo from Team Finland. He had a fantastic IIHF tournament last season. He scored 13 points in 12 round robin matches if I remember correct. And he continued that form this season in the SHL ice too. That is the reason it was more than fine to pick him in the TOP10 in the All-Star game draft. Seamus also deserved the pick thanks to his strong defensive game. d) I don't believe that back-up goalies matter in the All-Star game. They play only if the starter is very bad and lets in soft goals. When it comes to goalie duel, I think the advantage goes to the team who has Devoir in the net. His stats at the IIHF very excellent last season so he won't be shaky because he has experience from tough international matches a lot. e) William Salming was picked as a last player to the team called JRuke. He was extremely grateful for that because after 18 full SHL seasons and 1188 games, he finally got his first-ever invitation to All-Star game. It was an only achievement Salming was missing in his brilliant career. Maybe JRuke's management group picked him because of the huge experience Salming has from winning hockey matches when stakes are high.

Argonauts has two good candidates to vote for last players in to the All-Star game. They are long-time top defenseman Landon Fischermann but also rookie center Rence Sykut. Fischermann played over 24 minutes per night in a team which wasn't very good because it is in the rebuild mode. He had 27 points from the blue line. He killed penalties like a maniac and also ran the power-play well. Sykut was the first line center and played a lot with William Salming who mentored him. Sykut scored very impressive 55 points and won the inner scoring race. 38 assists and 17 goals were very good numbers in his first year among adults. He got used to the SHL tempo quickly and showed his hockey skills. So, noth Fischermann and Sykut would have been good picks for the All-Star game but this time it was Salming who was picked late in the draft. I expect to see Sykut in the future also in the All-Star game.

My player should have made the all star game as she endured a lot of shots, pain and struggles in order to keep calgary on the ice, as a veteran goalie on a really young team you know the stats will not be as shiny as the goalies in, but that does not say her performance wasn't all star worthy, without Montagne in net, calgary would have been a lot worse.
10 - 3 tpe -
Last season I actually got traded for the first time in my career. When my general manager approached me I was a bit in shock, as I thought I would be able to stay on the team a lot longer, but he managed to sell me on the team that offered, describing them as an up and coming team. I had not looked at the state of the team, but this season definitly showed they were up and coming, with one of the lower tpe rosters in the league, the team managed to get into the playoffs. And while we didn't win our series, we actually took a game from the far favorited Los Angeles Panthers. With my 25 wins this season I go from a shared spot with Beaujeaux Biscuit for wins, to enter the top 10 spot in the most wins category. So now my eyes are fully focussed on next season, as Montagne is looking for climbing these ranks the next two seasons while her competitor keeps getting stronger in the juniors.

a. Both Damien Hirano and Jussi Mutou had 59 points in Season 76 to lead the Montreal Patriotes. However, Hirano has 143 more TPE to his name than Mutou does. On paper, that might be enough for me to lean toward Hirano since their skills are better and might allow him to gel with the other all-stars more than Mutou would. I think I would give the spot to Mutou though for that exact reason. Despite being at a disadvantage skill-wise compared to Hirano, Mutou performed very well which would indicate that he is capable of stepping his game up. [99 words]
d. Goalies are always hard to predict especially when they’re not playing with the same players they played with all season. On paper, Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz and Sir Devoir look pretty even as the starters of their respective teams. There is, however, a major red flag when it comes to Devoir; he only played in two of Baltimore’s 24 playoff games. I don’t know why but there could be something to that. Lucky for team JRuke, they have a pretty significant upper hand when it comes to backup goaltenders where BASE PACK could easily step in for them at any time. Rooke Wayne Holloway was team WhiteFuzz’s pick as backup. I think that puts team JRuke over the top in terms of the advantage at goaltender. [124 words]

The end of the regular season came for us a little over two weeks ago. I still feel tired. More than I have in any other season before this. I take my role as captain seriously and I know I have the heart to continue playing that role for many years. The problem is that I don’t think my body is going to allow me to play the game at that same level even though I know I have what it takes.
This season was a perfect example. I was playing at a high level over the first half and so was the rest of the team. Then the struggles began and no matter what I did I wasn’t able to bounce back. It’s not as easy as it used to be. Before this past season, I think the last time I wasn’t able to put up a point per game was eight seasons ago. Part of me thinks this might be the beginning of the end but the fire is still burning and as long as I have that fire I’ll continue to give it everything I’ve got. Perhaps a move back to center this coming season will do me some good!
