Introducing: The Thunder Bay Walleye. Coming to the SMJHL in Season 78.

Located in Ontario, the city of Thunder Bay finds itself plentiful with plenty of Walleye. A medium sized Canadian city, it is very much comparable to many similar SMJHL markets.

Why rebrand? Well, the team is quite frankly tired of Regina. It was an option created by the two initial GMs of Regina who are no longer really affiliated or involved with the team in any way, shape or form. A rebranding of this SMJHL franchise has been a continuous discussion of our war room long before my tenure as head GM, and even prior to my entrance into the war room as a co-GM under Reno. Currently, no one on the team has a connection to the old branding and while its nice, it's not ours and the team wants to have something they all connect to. Some even say it's cursed.

Internally, rebranding talks picked up a bit when I stepped in as a co-GM, and when I took over from Reno as head GM, I made it a point of interest to discuss rebranding options. After getting tentative approval, we had internal polling within our locker room on possible options before selecting the Walleye, which received the largest vote share when the LR was polled to pick their favorite of the approved options. Hence, we will be saying goodbye to Regina following the conclusion of this season, and making the move to Thunder Bay in time for next season.

Rink design and jerseys are coming soon. And yes, piss ice will return.

Really gonna miss the elk. I put a lot of heart and soul into it and the colours. Get why you’d want a change but still. Colours might make the most meh about this, Regina had unique colours, that was one of our goals, and you chose blue and green ... well, is what it is.
