Team US White goes for Gold (2X WJC media)
#1

Coming off a Bronze medal performance, can Team United States White go for Gold in this season's WJC Tournament? The roster certainly seems to have the ability to do it.  Due to the nature of the World Junior Championships, and the draft style roster selection, there is very little carryover in the rosters from year to year. In fact, goaltender Grant Berd and skaters Supah Dupah and Carter Stankoven are the only repeat US White player from last seasons tournament.

Let's take a look at some of the new names for this year and see how they did on their respective teams last tournament.

Wonderbread - Right Wing - US Blue

Playing for the other United States squad last year, Wonderbread put up 16 points in last years round robin, slotting into a tie for 4th Overall with US Blue teammate Leonard Wood. Wonderbread also tied for the lead in points, also with teammate Wood, in the playoffs with 7 points in 3 games, helping steer US Blue to a Silver Medal. Wonderbread is also coming off a spectacular junior season with the Great Falls Grizzlies, scoring 68 points in 66 games.

Alexa Johansen - Right Wing - US Blue

Also coming off a silver medal with US Blue, Alexa switches to US White for this seasons tournament.  Putting up 6 points in 12 games in the round robin, and 3 points in 3 games during the knockout round. Johansen led the rebuilding St Louis Scarecrows this season with 66 points in 66 games. Hopefully that momentum continues into the tournament.

Thomas Hudson - Center - Team North America

After playing the last two tournaments with Team North America, Thomas finally cracks one of the United States rosters for this tournament. Team NA struggled in last years tournament, not making the knockout round.  Thomas also had a rough campaign with only 2 points in 12 games.  Hopefully this season will be better now that he's on Team US White. He is coming off a record breaking junior season with 61 points in 66 games, so things are certainly looking up for him.

Evil Kyle Murray - Goalie - US Blue

Murray played 4 games last season in the round robin for US Blue, compiling a 1-3 record, although this was his first appearance in the WJC.

Hummus God - Defense - Team North America

Also coming over from Team NA is defender Hummus God.  Scoring 4 points in 12 games last season and laying out 18 hits and 25 blocked shots, this defensive minded defender should be a good addition to the Team US White squad.

Ivan Godinez - Defense - No team

Making their WJC debut is defender Ivan Godinez. The rookie defender from Kelowna is coming off an impressive SMJHL debut season as well, posting 43 points in 66 games, a +14 rating, 53 blocked shots and 121 hits.  It will be very exciting to see what they can do on the international stage.

Stay tuned for the exciting WJC Action and see how Team US White fares in the tournament.
