In Ottawa, there is only one team that no one can stand: the Yukon Malamutes. Ever since Hotdog Lunch and Earl Biggins were in the scouting rooms together, they knew that their conflicting views on the proper way to heat hotdogs were going to be the wedge that pulled them apart. Since being drafted by the Malamutes as the first pick of the most recent draft, Earl helped his team maintain a really strong opening season. All while eating street meats in some weird, microwaved fashion - often causing the wieners to split in half from the rush of gasses escaping during the rapid cooking process. Recently there has been a cooking wager placed on the current status of the new season. Should Yukon beat Ottawa in overall points, then Earl (@Cootdaddy) must consume a hotdog cooked via steam and then prepared the proper Montreal way. A bet that Ottawa's GM set as a friendly way to take advantage of the season start.

As Big Sweg is new to the league and hadn't heard about it until 3 days before the draft there is not much information that Big Sweg can draw from to form an opinion. Big Sweg has tried to find reasons to feel a rivalry with someone but it has yet to kick in. Big Sweg guesses that all the other teams just might be rivals at this point because they were dumb enough to pass on him even though he was available for 5 rounds. All the other teams can be prepared to feel like they've made a mistake when they see the greatness that is BIG SWEG. So if Big Sweg had to decide on a single team to be the ones with the first overall pick which this season apparently was the Yukon Malamutes. Shame on you, you're supposed to be dogs but you are certainly not good dogs, not well behaved or well trained at all.

Well playing for the Ottawa Highlanders has been a true pleasure, but given that the team has only been around for 2 seasons, they don't have any well established rivalries around the league yet. Without asking around, I'll just speculate on potential rivals that could develop based on the team's short history. First of all, going to war with a team in the championship final will almost always leave a lasting impression on the players, and even though several players have left since losing to the Vancouver Whalers, there is a sense that we would like to one day avenge that loss. The other easy way to form a rivalry is with regional opponents, and the closest teams to Ottawa would be the Detroit Falcons, Quebec City Citadelles, or Maine Timber.... and slightly farther away would the Thunder Bay Walleye. Out of those teams, I say we go for the bilingual rivalry with QCC, but something tells me the team feels a stronger one with the Maine Timber.

Quebec is in a transition year, that is undisputable . . . Rookies playing in elevated positions (Hi. . . I'm the problem, it's me) an all rookie goalie tandem and a ton of turnover on the blueline . . . our biggest rival seems to be the wins column right now.

But if we HAD to pick another team, I'd go with Detroit.  Maybe it's just because of where my hometown is but the gang seems to get much more fired up talking about Detroit.  I hear there is some history between the two teams, but that was all a little before my time.  So far, we've only played one game against the Falcons this year and MAAAAN was the room pumped after that victory.

The home and home series coming up in the next few games ought to be a fun watch, both teams in the top third of the league in Goals For should make for a pretty wild ride . . . Sorry tendies . . .

Newfoundland and Maine have always had a rivalry, FHM keeps pushing NL vs. Vancouver but NL vs. Maine has always been the fun back and forth (for awhile there was only back and no forth) since the team was founded 25 seasons ago. Throughout the season 50s and early 60s, NL dominated Maine in the playoffs and won pretty much every season against them in an almost comical fashion. This includes season 57 where a 22 win NL team beat a 37 win Maine team in the first round of the playoffs. This then continued for the early S60s until Maine got much better and did a lot to even the score in the Late S60s and much of the S70s. NL was able to sweep Mian in the S70 finals before getting swept in the same finals the very next season. Maine then beat NL again in the season 73 finals but it wasn't a sweep this time. After that Maine beat NL again in the second round of the S74 playoffs before losing the next round but NL finally got some revenge by beating them in the third round of the season 75 playoffs. After that there hasn't been any playoff matchups but we'll see what the future will hold.

Honestly, it's hard to say that San Diego has a big rival. They are such a new team within the league, that I guess the best team to state as their rival would be the Ottawa Highlanders, because that's the team that joined at the same time as them. However, for funsies, it feels better to say that the biggest rival would be the Nevada Battleborn, just because that was my former team. Making Nevada out to be the biggest rivals that I personally have. I can't believe that the new GM who has no real connection to me outside of being an alum and the commissioner of the J would pass on trying to trade up to get additional picks to take a rookie and me. How absolute dare they. That said, Nevada does have one of my favorite channels in all of sim league servers and I am forever grateful to have been a part of the team early on to experience it.

Without question, our most fierce rival is Newfoundland, and it is very personal. Newfoundland beat us 11 playoff series in a row, and they are literally the only team that prevented us from winning the cup for an incredibly long time. While Quebec City and Carolina have recently had potential to be 'official rivals', the history with Newfoundland is different: it cuts deep because it is anchored in heartbreaks in the playoffs for years. We have played them so often and so often are they the team to make or break a great season for the Timber. They were always been the team to get in between us and achieving that final goal. Even though we’ve had some recent success against them, the enduring heartbreak of 11 straight series losses in the past is what has made Newfoundland our rivals. All the angst and tension we had from those series against the Berserkers solidified them as the team we were always ready to put up a great fight against.

I'm not really sure if NBB has a true rival in the SMJHL. If you want to go by location, it would've been Anaheim to then be replaced by San Diego after the former relocated. So since there's not an obvious answer, I will go with my own personal rival, the Newfoundland Berserkers. First off all, they ping me in the LR whenever they beat NBB, making sure to highlight all my bad stats and breaking down how it was all my fault. To make matters worse, they are lead by Sburbine, who constantly visited the museum that is 2 blocks from where I lived without ever messaging to meet up. Insanely rude. To add to that, before Sburb took over they were GMd for the longest time by Patty, who has rejected my wedding invitation because he has more important friends or something. The worst part is, the members of that LR still throw my rocket league games to this day, so for all these reasons, Hip Hurts' greatest rival is Newfoundland.

Thus far in my time with Nevada, I’d have to say our biggest rival has got to be Ottawa. So many back and forth games that it’s at the point where it’s almost impossible to predict. Very reminiscent of the Ottawa of the NHL where, their team’s goalies Jeff Kirkstone III & Bishop Van Apeldoorn decide to play their absolute BEST hockey vs us every time just like the Hamburgler. It’s good to feel that rivalry sense in my first season already seeing as post-season will just amplify the inner team fire towards another team (probably you Ottawa). Other than that, everyone in the league is too damn nice to have bad blood against at least at this point lol. Maybe that’ll change further on in my SMJHL career! Love when things spice up in a competitive way even though we’re at the complete mercy of the sim lol. (156 words)

Javelin being new to the league, he doesn’t truly understand the rivalries that are play in the SMJHL yet. He’s only starting to come to grips with the league as a whole and which teams he will learn to dislike and which he will just know of. As of right now the Newfoundland Berserkers are the closest thing he understands as a rival since they’re closest to Anchorage in the conference standings. Javelin also isn’t a huge fan of the Maine Timber either due to his competition in defensemen points with Jaccpo Nummilavin. As Javelin spends the next few seasons in the J he will learn a bit more about who Anchorage’s closest rivals are and who their main competition is for a championship. The playoffs are where rivalries are born anyways right? Whether you’re successful against a team or not, when you continually face them in the high pressure environment of the playoffs, emotions are bound to boil over.

Our largest rival inside the SMJHL is surely the Kelowna Knights. This contention stems from years of severe matchups and near games, with each group vying for dominance inside the league. The Knights have usually been an impressive opponent, and each recreation in opposing seems like a playoff battle. What makes this contention even more heated is the records of horrific blood among our famous person gamers. Whether it`s a tough hit at the ice or the Knights snubbing one in every one of our gamers throughout the draft, something may usually reignite the fire. Fans from each facet circle the dates on the calendar while we meet, understanding they are in for a bodily and emotional rollercoaster. The anxiety does not quit with the very last whistle; it consists of into the stands, onto social media, or even into the subsequent season. This is greater than only a recreation it is a combat for satisfaction and respect.
