I don't know if anyone's noticed, but Kiwi has stopped fighting and actually shown up to play hockey the second half of the season. She's lost 2 fights (she let them win. But she managed to get her +/- above 0 which is like super impressive given it was like -12. Also she has like 20 assists. So despite building her like a Point Shooter, she has decided she would rather pass the puck and I think that is MVP worthy. She's also 6' 5" so cross that off on your impressive stats. Shot percentage of almost 6%. So....basically giveaway city but at least she can hit the glass or the boards with a shot. Oh, shes also played every game. That kind of stamina is pretty impressive in my book. She's also taken 70+ faceoffs...wait why am I taking faceoffs??? Anyway, Kiwi should be MVP. On name alone is really the reason.
So I have yet to look at the standings until i just did my MPT so I will be missing context but I would assume someone from the Timbers since they're apparently doing well. However if stats just gain more stats then putting all the very good people don't actually make them as valuable to a team and someone carrying the fuck out of another team that's doing very well.
So focusing on that you have Chris McZerhl on most goals, Something called 3WW with the most points outside of the timber people or Baron Samedi for best shot % stat. Out of those I would probably give it the the Raptors player, Baron Samedi purely based off him being on the nicest and coolest team. Maybe a defender or goalie is killing it but lets be honest, they can't win it in this engine so I guess via proxy of looking at 1 extremely niche stat and biasedness Baron Samedi is your MVP! (I feel like a PBE or ISFL awards voter doing that lmaooo)
Proud S67 - S69 Colorado Raptors Captain
S57 Forward of the Season Award winner
The MVP race is tight nearing the end of the season. Here are the top players in the Fallah discussion in my opinion.
May O'Nayse - solid offensive numbers with a decent defensive record to back them up. As of today, sitting at 82 points and 37 goals with the vast majority of those points coming at even strength. O'Nayse has only played 31 minutes on the power play. The offense is there in the clutch with 7 game winning goals.
Jacppo Nummilavin - Jacppo has a great combination of offensive and defensive stats, including the most goals for all D players, high relative Corsi and relative Fenwick on a great team, and strong TA/GA, hits, SB, and +/-.
Baron Samedi - Baron has been among the top goal scorers and point generators the entire season, and is a strong part of the COL special teams,
Doug Weight - Good defensive numbers for a high scoring forward, and is on the short list for the Holmes Award this year. Weight has the most points in the league currently, and is a major contributor on special teams. His numbers stand out on an absolutely stacked MET team.
There are a lot of candidates to win MVP for this season. This trophy will receive a player, who has most needed for his team.
One of the candidates is definitely Doug Weight, the most productive player of the league with 88 points in 57 matches. Another candidate is also the best scorer of this league, Chris McZehrl III with 43 goals in 60 matches.
Also Baron Samedi is on the list, because he has the best shooting percentage.
May O'Nase has the best plus/minus in the league, also has the most shots in the SMJHL.
But also defensemans should be on this list. For example, Boofa Benson and Dieter Fruhstuck have the most blocked shots in the league and I think that great shot blocking is very important for you team.
It's very unusual that goalie wins MVP, but If I want to nominate some goalies, I will choose Kris, because he has 27 wins in 35 matches, so lot of wins in just 35 matches, and Walter Scheibli, because he has the most saves in the league and he faces the most shots per game.
But I think that Doug Weight will win the MVP.
The Maine Timber and Nevada Battleborn could easily take the entire list of MVP caliber talent in the SMJHL. Don’t get me wrong, the entire Maine Timber roster is otherworldly in terms of plus/minus, taking AT LEAST the top 10 spots in the SMHJL. But which on that roster make their bids for the top player? In my list, I’ve included two forwards, one defenseman, and one goalie.
Doug Weight, C (MET) 36-59-95
Sure, Weight is 8th in goal scoring, just 9 goals out of the top spot. But the total offense the third year player in Maine is able to output is something to be studied. 8 points clear of teammate Anna Skovgaard in second for points proves there’s something special about this player. Whether that be scoring goals, or getting the puck on their teammates sticks, this player has the offensive vision to win.
Baron Samedi, C (COL) 40-46-86
I’m just going to say this; a 20.94% shooting percentage feels illegal. Another third year player in the SMJHL is making their mark, looking to be a top prospect for the SHL. It feels any time this player steps on the ice, there will be a goal for Colorado.
Josh Fewer, D (NBB) 5-30-35
+31 on a team that’s 8th most scored on. Almost double the next player on their team (!) . Most TOI for Nevada. Improved on their ability to stay out of the box. Everything you want out of your defense. I heavily considered Cade de Vries, Jeyeff Effo, and Hip Hurts on the Nevada D corps, but Fewer just has that edge. Sure, not as offensively potent, but you can’t win games if your team is all in the minus.
Jakub Alexa, G (YUM) 16-7-2 .920
It can be quite difficult to properly gauge goalies. The SMJHL rookie has been splitting time in net with teammate Phemeia McLaughlin to better results, and it seems to work for Alexa and Yukon. Yukon, second in the Northern conference, is 4 points clear of third place Kelowna, and 5 points behind Northern Conference leading Anchorage. Keep an eye out for Alexa to have more playing time come playoffs.
There are many players that have a chance to win most valuable player as of today. So many in fact, that I have no idea who is going to win. Mostly because I haven’t payed attention. I am a rookie. I’m only paying attention to the rookies. So most valuable player? Mczerl? I think they are doing well. I am sure it will be someone from Maine. Who the malamutes beat btw, just saying. Maybe it could be djoe anderson? He seems pretty important. After draft create, free agent pick up. One of the top rookies. I don’t know dude. I’m not going to do research.
I’m going to be most valuable player. There I said it. Everyone knows it already. Ask them. Don’t as me. I didn’t say it. Im just repeating what all these people are saying. These great people. They are saying it. Not me. You know who else said it? The great ray finkle. He said it not me. He said to me, you are the most valuable player. I said thank you for saying it. I didn’t say it. He’s a great man ray finkle.
Here are my top 3 candidates, assuming the MVP awards are based on.. how good players actually are.
#3 is C Anna Skovgaard, one of my teammates. Incredibly good teamplayer. Top 5 in points, assists and +/- for forwards. A major aspect in this generally is just being a cool teammate and person, and Anna fits well in that regard.
#2 is RW May O'Nayse, another Tree. Top 5 in goals, points and +/- aswell as being #1 in shots for the entire SMJHL. Really great asset to our team, I have very high hopes for them going into awards season.
#1 is definitely Doug Weight. League points leader for probably like two to three weeks at this point, league leader in assists, top 6 in shots and top 10 in +/-. Maine's best performer (though the two I've mentioned are battling for that position!) and in my opinion the league's best too, I think Doug Weight is in for MVP this season.
There are a handful of players in the running for league MVP.
Starting off the list with the center Doug Weight from the Maine Timber who is currently the league's point leader. Doug is a menace on the power play and is 5th in power play goals scored. Also, Doug leads the league in assists which boosts his points per game to 1.56.
Next is the league's top goal scorer Chris McZehrl III who is a center from the Anchorage Armada. Contrary to Doug, Chris is second in the league in even strength goals. Chris' sharpshooting ability lands him third in the league in shot percentage.
Finally, the goalie from the Great Falls Grizzlies: Elvar Gil-Galad. Elvar ranks in the top 5 for GAA and save percentage while facing the 7th most shots against in the league. Elvar rounds out his resume with pitching three shut outs which is good for 2nd in the league.
1. Doug Weight - Maine Timber. This guy is a consensus choice that almost everyone is talking about. The best stats on the best team. 39 goals. Tied for fifth in the league. 63 assists. First in the J. 102 points. The first player this season to go over 100 points. And it also is for the best team in the league. One of my biggest pet peeves in sports is when an MVP is given to a player on a losing team. Can the best player be on a last place team? Yes. Can an MVP? No. The V stands for Valuable and there is no value in last place.
2. 3WW Wingmate-Roc - Nevada Battleborn. Wingmate-Roc could be the best player who doesn't play for Maine. Third in goals scored (43) and sixth in assists (53). Wingmate-Roc should be over 100 points real soon (currently at 96, second in the league).
3. Baron Samedi - Colorado Raptors. As of this typing, Colorado is in second place in the standings and Samedi is the reason, leading the team in goals and assists. Samedi has 44 goals, second in the league behind Chris McZerhl III who has 45. Samedi also is tenth in the J with 49 assists.
I'm going off the beaten path here, if that's even the saying. My picks for league MVP are all super biased and based purely on the merit of the person.
In no particular order
Christina Fantobens.
This is by far one of the coolest players in the SMJHL, they're a great person on and off the ice and deserves to be MVP on merit alone. Always willing to engage in conversation and also a pretty damn good linemate.
Chuck Lumbermouth.
That's a terrifying name, he's gonna show you who your maker is when he gets on the ice. He's leading the league in something, might be hits, you look it up. also just a swell person and always has a warm presence.
Earl Biggins.
Easy decision here, committee? look here, another invaluable (Valuable?) asset to the malamutes, bros always ready to throw down for the team (Has he ever done it?) I'm sure he would regardless.
Special mention Djoe Anderson.
He's a cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything.
As S78 of the SMJHL winds down, there are a few players who can make a fair case for MVP. Based on raw stats, we have Doug Weight of the Maine Timber standing out against the pack. With a whopping 102 points in 65 games, Weight could be considered the runaway candidate. The trophy could be his to lose, but does the dominant play of the Timber as a whole this season weight into the decision? Their goaltender, Kris, may also have a claim to the title, but the same questions can rise in this situation as well. Is Baron Semedi's contributions to the Raptors success more valuable to his team? Samedi's 93 points may not seem as impressive as Weight's, but consider that Samedi's closest scoring teammate is 18 points behind him, whereas Weight's is only 9. The Raptors find themselves in second place behind the Timber, and Samedi's efforts have certainly won Colorado a few extra games this year. Finally, I'd like to offer a dark horse candidate. Anastasia Soderstrom is the starting goaltender in Detroit. Kris of the Maine Timber leads the league in wins, and Soderstrom is only 2 wins behind the leader. That said, Soderstrom has played 14 more games than Kris. In fact, there are only 2 other goalies with more games played, and 1 goalie with more minutes played. The Falcons currently sit at 5th place in their conference, and 6th in the league. Their success this season has absolutely hinged on good play from Soderstrom, and her position at the top of the goalie standings are a reflection of that.
After some time away from fake hockey purgatory, I don’t have a great idea what goes into MVP consideration in today’s Simulation Hockey League or its junior counterpart. However, you’ve asked for my uneducated opinion, so you’re gonna get it!
The league’s leading scorer is always a safe bet, and currently that distinction belongs to Carolina Hurricanes legend Doug Weight of the Maine Timber. Weight has 105 points as of this writing, with 64 assists and 41 goals.
I don’t know if it’s a late surge or what, but the lack of Chris McZehrl III mentions in replies to this PT have surprised me. He is currently the league’s leading goal scorer, is tied for the league lead in game-winning goals. The assist numbers are not as high as some other competitors, but the goal-scoring numbers have to count for something. Maybe? Maybe not. What do I know?
I will still always have a soft spot for forwards who hit, so shoutout to Stavros Kondos with 92 points and 155 hits. Let ‘em know you’re there, Stavros.
This season's Ideen Fallah Trophy feels all but wrapped up already. While throughout the season there have been multiple contenders it really feels like things are becoming clear down the stretch. At this point this is Doug Weight's award to lose. The only argument against him at this point is that he has 3 teammates in the top 6 in scoring in the league this season. The only player I feel can chase him down at this point is Colorado's Baron Samedi. While Weight has outproduced Samedi this season by 12pts, Samedi does not have a single teammate in the top 15 in scoring. Even so I don't expect this to pull too many voters in his favor. There is no workhorse goaltender that stands out this year to win the award. Yukon's Jakub Alexa leads the league in sv% as a rookie, but he's a late bloomer who took over part way through the season. That's not nearly enough volume to garner any MVP votes. At this moment in time, my vote would go to Weight.
So I haven't the experience to make accurate judgements on who deserves MVP, but I will try my best. In no particular order we'll start with Doug Weight. He is first overall in both points and assists, 4th overall in goals, 5th overall in powerplay goals, and 10th overall plus minus. Solid offensive player and one of the many reasons Maine Timber continues to dominate. Next we have Baron Samedi. 1st overall shot percentage, 2nd overall goals and 5th overall points Baron is also a very solid offensive player, and is Colorado's star this season. This speaks to me personally a bit more as the Colorado Raptors, while 3rd overall in the standings are nowhere near Maine's record, and that speaks to Baron's skill a lot. Lastly I would like to nominate the defenseman Boofa Benson. I have a soft spot for defensive playstyles, and Boofa here is the 1st overall in shots blocked and I think that deserves some recognition. Yeah goals are exciting and how you win, but stopping your opponents goals is just as important.
