Hiring: New IIHF Federation

I know I'm new here and I realize my opinion is only one person's and may not hold much weight, but I think it's worth putting this out there: this decision massively reduces my enthusiasm for (potentially, someday) participating in IIHF, as my country no longer exists. "Rest of Canada" is not something I have any interest in representing.

You're not the only one who shares this opinion, it's a strange, and frankly dumb, concept to allow a Province of a country already represented in an international tournament, to be a representative "nation".

There's definitely precedent for HOs on the site to tell potential expansion GMs that they like their "enthusiasm" but their location or branding doesn't make sense. Not sure why that same precedent wasn't taken place in these discussions. Imo, the idea of Quebec should have been a non-starter in conversations about new federations.

How is this going to be implemented? Are players in the former IR going to be allowed to transfer if they do not want to play for Quebec? Are Quebec players on other federations going to be allowed to transfer, even if they've already made transfers already? Obviously these were issues that were going to happen if there was a new federation regardless, so I hope there's some forethought there.

Yes and yes, as per the very thread you commented in:

the offer to transfer any Active player originally born in the new Federation as an exceptional transfer

- the automatic transfer of Independent Russia players to the new Federation. These players will be not be considered "locked" players until after the S79 IIHF Tournament and may choose to transfer out to another Federation using the transfer rules of the IIHF.

I certainly can't speak for the rest of IIHF HO, but I feel like there's a hypothetical line at some point in which the support for a Team Texas/Moon/Even a fictional location outweighs the negatives, right?

Realistically at the moment, I can't foresee the point at which the Moon crosses that threshold for me personally, but I feel like it would be at such a point where you have so many users committed to it, having their players born on the moon, and calling for a Team Moon, that the only thing that makes sense is a Team Moon.

That is except for those who, completely understandably, might only want sovereign states, or IIHF member nations only. Entirely valid opinion as well.

So you just have to be very vocal and have a large group of fanboys behind you to get what you want on this site?

Like I want to be rational and read the first message of this thread? No, I want to express my opinions based on my emotions

I get that Quebec seems nuts, I've said as much myself but let's reframe this in mind with the fact it's IIHF. Having a group of people who'd be passionate about a nation and working hard to make it happen is pretty much the most you can expect out of a nation. If that would happen with a Uranus app then so be it. I wanted Iceland, but I think Gwen's gonna do awesome with the Quebec nation and I'm excited to see it.

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”

I would like to highlight and thank the open-mindedness and boldness of the HO in granting a team to Quebec. This is not the first time we've had this discussion, and I am pleased to see that the bid — from a francophile who doesn't reside in the province — was accepted. To those who don't understand the excitement around this bid, it's important to remember the significant number of community members from this province. Having a team with which they can identify in this tournament can only be beneficial.

For the most part, I see only positives in this nomination. We are not adding another small federation that will struggle to compete for recruits. We're moving past the Russian Federation saga in a politically challenging environment. We're bringing together passionate people (who for some share a distinct language in this virtual community). We're also slightly splitting the player pool from Canada, one of the largest federations - although I recognize there is an impact for that team.

For those who consider it unrealistic for an international federation to accept a team that is not a real country... we can have a long discussion about the place of Scotland in FIFA or other international sports federations.

I must admit I am surprised (and saddened) by the anti-Quebec sentiment shown here.

Also kinda works in life now too.

If you guys are upset about this, way until you see we turned the WJC into a planet battle with 90% of players coming from Earth and 10% coming from Uranus!!

i should also clarify my stance against this is one i've had since i was in ho, and i see no reason to change this just because i like who got the gig (gwen is great and i think she'll do a fantastic job as fed head). i also only speak for myself and not my co/the rest of the fed
