Is Player Development in SHL Based More on Strategy or Luck?
#1

Hey everyone!

I have been thinking a lot about the balance between strategy and luck in developing a successful SHL player. Obviously, things like maximizing training points, making smart contract decisions,,,, and choosing the right build are critical. But how much does luck play into it: ??

For example, random injuries or getting drafted to a struggling team can really affect your player's trajectory, right: ?? On the other hand, if you put in consistent work on updating and stay active, it feels like you should eventually see results. I am wondering how much of my player’s future is in my control, versus the external factors like team dynamics or league changes.

What are your thoughts: ?? Is it more about managing these challenges and creating the best possible conditions for success or does luck have a bigger role than we might want to admit: ?? I would love to hear how you all balance these elements in your own player builds! I have searched on the forum for any solution to my query and found this thread https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=132540rpa&page=13 but couldn't get any solution.

Looking forward to hearing your insights....!

Thanks

In general, HO tries to eliminate the game’s automatic elements as much as possible that we can’t disable by locking most of the mentals, resetting team morale, and trying to give every team the same in-sim budget and arena size.

It’s both. You have to be consistent and strategic with what you can control, i.e. point tasks and training, but the in-sim results are largely reliant on “luck”. No matter how much we try to control the sim, we simply do not have a way to determine what exactly happens in it, and that’s part of what makes it fun and exciting. If we had 100% control and no luck was involved, it would be far too predictable and boring.
