REDs Goodbye for now Presser

The committment to the people on my teams, mostly. Of course there are many things that make this league great fun, I found the actual in-sim aspect to hold up really well for a long time actually, there really wasn't a lot of burnout for the actual gameplay of the SHL for a long time. But ultimately, when it comes to grinding it our for over a real-life decade, you don't just do it for yourself, you also do it to not let the people down who drafted you and to help make things fun for everyone in the locker room by doing your best to make the team successful in the sim.

Quote:Have there ever been times where you wanted to quit and then didn't? Why not?

There actually weren't. I had a rather brief period of time with my second player where I went through some difficult things in my life and weren't super active, but I can honestly say that I never really thought about quitting until now. Basically, once the thought of quitting actually started to enter my head, I knew that it was finally time.

Quote:Do you think the league will still be around in 10 years?

I'm very confident of it. The people here are great and we have strong leadership that I have a lot of trust in. The league has already withstood a lot of challenges both internally as well as in regards to changing external circumstances, which makes me confident that it can continue to do so in the future.

May I offer you a slightly used Robin Zentner instead?

Quote:How much you have earned money or TPE for being my recruiter?

Not as much as you probably think because if I remember correctly, I missed one the deadlines to claim part of it early on in your career and missed out on a good bit of my reward as a result.

Quote:Your most unforgettable goal in the SHL?

Hmmm that's interesting because I don't really remember that one goal that stands out. With the way this league works and especially as an offensive forward, you have so many games and also goals, that specific ones don't have a ton of impact. I also rarely watch games live and just looking at the boxscore afterwards just doesn't have the same feel to it as being there for the goal itself does.

We are required to have a quota.

Damn. who else has been leaving?

I'm very well actually, life has just become so busy that it has become tougher and tougher to stay engaged here. It is not so much a time thing, you really don't need that much time each week to keep up in the SHL, but more of a mental load thing. I've been cleaning up a few things in recent months that I used to enjoy or actually do enjoy, but which just take up too much mental bandwith when combined together. But overall, everything is good and I am mostly kept busy by positive things Smile.

Instinctively, the first ones that come to mind are my time on the Awards and HOF Committees. I really enjoyed being able to help improve the processes that are here to give recognition to the players and members that deserve them. There were good people in there to bounce ideas of and have controversial yet fact-based discussions and I think we did a lot of good work for a bunch of years there.

Quote:Will you still be around the site/community?

Not around the site, at least for now. But I am still on Discord so people who want to reach out to me can still do that, and I will probably still be active on the occasional server that has some other SHL members on it as well, like our F1 and Gaming Server.

Quote:What is the story behind your name? How fast did people shorten it to RED

It's a quote from "Life of Brian", it's basically fake/wrong Latin writes on a wall to send a message to the Romans. I'm not quite sure when the whole RED thing started, I think it was a few years in but it stuck and quite quickly though, because nobody wanted to deal with that mess that was my full nickname I assume.

Quote:Is there anyone or any team you wish you could have played with?

Clichee answer, but there are so many that it would probably be unfair to name specific players or teams. One of the downsides of trying to stay loyal to your teams throughout your career is that you don't get to experience that many different franchises and therefore miss out on sharing spaces with a lot of people. Although a good thing about the modern SHL and Discord is that you get to know and hang out with people to various servers even if they aren't your teammates. I think that has actually changed the dynamic quite a bit, these days you can feel very close to people that you never shared a locker room with, whereas in the past there were a lot of people that you thought seemed nice from a distance, but that you never really had any direct interactions with because you didn't share a space outside of this forum.

This feels like the Shawshank Redemption, but this time RED gets out first.

It has not fully settled in yet to be quite honest. Right now I am neither relieved or sad really, there is a certain melancholy for sure but I am also looking forward to the break. What does make me happy are the circumstances under which I get to leave. I spent such a long timeframe in this league hunting for another Cup after my first one early on, so to go out with a Challenge Cup win for a franchise that I have so much history with is just all I could have hoped for for my fairytale ending.

Haha thank you and you are welcome, I am very happy you have this a shot and stuck around after a not so easy start!

You know what, I think I might finally take you guys up on that offer soon! Just need to let me know where about I would have to go so I can calculate the drive :D. How is Sarah doing by the way, I hope everything is well?

Haha yeah we sure did, but this all seems so long ago at this point, it feels like we mended those bridges a long time ago and I am very happy about that, had a lot pleasant interactions with you since then Smile.

Oh wow, I did? I sure enjoyed the hell out of those games but it didn't feel like I was a driving factor behind them, seemed like it was mostly other people organizing them. Great to hear that I managed to still make a difference though!

I think these are all the questions for now, I think I'm gonna wait another day to see if there are any follow-ups and to give people the chance to point out if I missed something, then close this up Smile
