[2x IIHF] Anthonny Dionne: The Brick Wall
#1

Anthonny Dionne has been a member of Team Canada for as long as almost anyone can remember. After 2 seasons with Team Austria in the s50s, Dionne joined the Canadians in season 67 and has been a steady presence in net since. After 25 years on the international scene, he must be showing signs of slowing down, right? Right?

Well think again. The Canadians are 9-1-0 on the back of stellar defense and goal tending. Canada has allowed the fewest goals in this entire tournament at 22, 5 fewer than their nearest competitor, and 9 fewer than the next team who has also played 10 games (Sweden). Dionne has been a brick wall, posting a. 942 save percentage and two shutouts, also a tournament high. The last time Dionne put up this good of numbers was nine years ago. In the s69 (nice) tournament, Dionne posted a. 944 save percentage, and the Canadians went on to win gold.

Its clear to me that Anthonny Dionne simply does not age like the rest of us. He is playing lights out during the twilight of his career. At this pace, will he decide to ever hang up the Skates? His prime is clearly today, and the rest of the team is hoping to ride his hot hand to the gold medal game.

A goalie would be nothing without his defense, and Canada has been playing exceptionally. The team has allowed a tournament best fewest shots per game at 27.90. Blue liners Ben Jammin and Nathanial Barca have also contributed in the offensive zone with 9 points each. The team is clearly firing on all cylinders, and doing it from the backline up.

Canada still has two games remaining in their round Robin schedule, against Great Britain and Czechia. Great Britain has a tournament worst 17 goals for so far this tournament, and the Canadians will be looking for Dionne to continue his run of form.

I was not around in S50s, that's a file issue, but yes my glory days are behind me.

We got another good young goaltender in the system that will take my place when the time will come. Still doing my best till there.

Our defense is fabulous, like we have in Texas, can't thank them enough for my stats.

Big thanks for the nice piece!

I was thinking that might have been a file issue - I remember some careers lasting around 20, but never 25, so that would have been a really impressive feat to fight regression that long!

And of course! Thank you for the exciting play this tournament! I'm relieved my Sweden team doesn't have to potentially run into you for another two rounds!
