S79 Team TPE and Roster Analysis
Hello and welcome once again to these pieces analyzing the team TPE to predict where they will finish in the standings. With most teams having their rosters finalized or close to it, we can start to see how they all stack up against each other! My methodology is based on the premise that the single biggest indicator to how a team will do is the team TPE, and how it is distributed. That is to say that generally Forwards > Defense > Goalie. Obviously things like player builds and roles, and coaching strategies and line chemistry are factors that can change things, but I would argue to a lesser extent than simply team TPE. Also, I list the roster depth chart solely on TPE: not all teams, or any team necessarily, will run their lines exactly like this but it still gives a clear view on where the strengths or weaknesses of a team may lie. Without further ado, let's have a look at: PACIFIC DIVISION SAN FRANCISCO PRIDE 1930 1897 1896 1855 1844 1767 1720 1196 818 1904 1739 1678 988 801 796 1368 213 The Pride have the strongest forward core in the league and their top TPE guys are all in the peak of their earning potential, with their 10 top players being in the S68-S72 draft range. They have gotten a bit weaker on the defensive side with their goalie regressing and 3 sub 1K players on the blue line, but the forward group is so strong that it's not a huge worry. Expect them to be in the race for the President's Cup again. Prediction: 48-50 Wins LOS ANGELES PANTHERS 1880 1746 1703 1692 1636 1427 1409 1114 1112 1929 1909 1527 1430 1215 999 1756 The defending Champions will once again be a formidable opponent. This division is pretty much a 2 team arms race between LAP and SFP so they will probably be battling it out for supremacy all season. The Panthers are really strong defensively and have the best depth across all three lines. The group is starting to age and they are not overall as strong as they were last season, but they have their best players just hitting their peak and able to take over the players who have felt the sting of regression. Although I was proven wrong last season by saying SFP would finish above them, I still have to go where the numbers lead and give the Pride the edge but not by much. Prediction: 45-47 Wins CALGARY DRAGONS 1446 1424 1408 1380 1148 1135 977 927 883 1422 1398 1374 1262 1130 869 972 397 The Dragons made a big step forward last season jumping from 20 to 36 wins. They have improved their roster over last season and are still very young for the most part. They are adding several top-earning rookies to the roster this season to continue to build on that. It might be a couple seasons before they take the next step to being a legitimate contender but they are on the right track. It might be tough to really improve on the wins totals from last season but they should be able to maintain. Prediction: 33-35 Wins SEATTLE ARGONAUTS 1371 1341 1340 1326 1203 1144 1046 971 756 1305 1136 1087 1038 782 756 991 454 The Argonauts are the most improved team overall in this division from last season as their rebuild goes into the final phase. The group is very young with only 2 players having played more than 3 seasons in the SHL, and another batch of rookies joining the roster this year, but the pieces are coming together nicely. Although the gap between them and the top teams is still obvious, it is closing a bit this season. Prediction: 24-26 Wins EDMONTON BLIZZARD 1443 1325 1081 962 947 944 821 772 755 440 921 915 882 841 750 497 597 170 With only 3 players above 1K TPE on the roster, the team may struggle to compete against top teams and are probably in for another season of missing the playoffs. The good news is that the team is already bringing in a lot of rookies so they will be getting experience and building chemistry early. Obviously the current situation is part of the ongoing rebuild still in its early stages, so it's not a knock on the future of the team, but for this season I don't see them having a ton of success on the ice. Prediction: 7-9 Wins There you have it! Good luck and have fun! S76 SMJHL DRAFT 3RD OVERALL PICK S77 SHL DRAFT 4TH OVERALL PICK IIHF TEAM NORWAY
