S79 PT #0: Drafting Some Leadership Due: Sunday, October 13th @ 11:59 PM PST

In my player's experience, having good leaders early on his career has helped him become a way better player than he would have had, if he did not have a good leaders that showed him the ropes. During the off season my player has learned that some of the best leaders never stop training or keeping in touch with their team mates in the off season. My player makes an effort to make sure every player on his team is set up for the off season and does his best to keep his team mates engaged during the off season, which is super important to stay active within group chats. Leading by example is another huge aspect of being a good leader, this is my done by my player being the first player back to training camp before it officiality starts to help set up and begin to prepare for the upcoming season. By doing this, it shows an example to team mates that they can follow after my player and get some additional training in before the season starts.

The secret to this announcement is that Jamie Fraser has been orchestrating every Montreal Patriotes pick for the last four seasons, since he orchestrated his own pick at the start of the S76 entry draft. Since then, Fraser has been hard at work in the back rooms of the league making sure that he's surrounded by peers that he's chosen. Most recently, this has resulted in the addition of Chuck Stewart to a prospect pool that has started to include more and more Carolina Kraken lottery picks. The announcement itself was very pedestrian and Fraser was somewhat stereotypically uncomfortable in suit at the podium, the pick was well received by the fans in attendance, the handshake and hug between the two looked comfortable and passed the vibe check, and the time traveling forward was quick to exit stage left at the earliest opportunity. All in a all a successful and uneventful announcement.

I think it’s important to represent yourself as a true pro and how you can be the best version of yourself in order to succeed. At the end of the day, you’ve gotta show up and show out to work hard and grow as a player. I think that that can look different for different players, but for Dominik, he tries to be one of the first players into the rink each day for practice and off ice work. On top of that, he tries to be very active in the offseason, apart of the very necessary unwind period whenever the season actually finishes to heal up, to put himself in the best position to succeed and be a good player for his team. This year, he didn’t get as much of a break as Czechia made it the elimination round, but that’s the kind of high level hockey that no player would pass up on in terms of getting better.

It is an incredible honor to be drafted in the SHL and Demir Bellona doesn't take it for granted. He graciously accepted the invitation to make the selection in the S79 SHL Draft. The Montreal Patriotes didn't have the first overall pick this time around but at third overall they were still bound to draft an incredibly talented player. Bellona was very excited by this draft, not only because the crop of rookies was amazing, but also because this draft was happening on St. Pierre and Miquelon, a French archipelago south of the Canadian island of Newfoundland. He brought his best suit and took a week off to do some sightseeing while he was there. On the night of the draft, he was incredibly excited to get on stage to present the third overall pick, and he was looking for his GM which he hadn't had a chance to talk to that night, but as the commissioner let the Montreal Patriotes know it was their time to pick, and Demir Bellona got up, he saw Jamie Fraser get up on stage with all the Patriotes brass with him.

Cormier would have to think long and hard about if he wanted to announce the draft pick for the wolfpack. While he may be an important player on the team, he wasnt actually drafted by New England. He was traded there from the Toronto North Stars early in his career and has only played for New England in the shl. While this isnt overly important to everyone, Cormier would probably think that someone drafted by the team, like O'Slaps would be a much better pick. It would hold some weight and give our new prospect a realistic view of what someone who was drafted by this organization and only played for this organization. Cormier is also not the most comfortable person in front of a camera or on stage. He gets nervous pretty easily and would constantly be afraid of mispronouncing the draftees name. While he would be honored to be considered to announce the pick, he would choose to pass the opportunity on to another teammate.

"I do not. They do not pay me to be a leader, they pay me to play hockey."

Sunrise does help out at times but he does not wish that people have the slightest hint of him trying to be a leader or anything, his job is to play and not to lead. If it is to lead people, he only wishes to do so when he is old enough to take the family's farm or on a biology test field. For now, he is perfectly content with only playing and doing his part so that when the team eventually wins things, he will be a part of that.

Once he is done with that, he will probably look towards something else but for the time being, he is only there to play and hopefully win the Cup at some point. Leadership is for others, not for him. That's a fact.

Going into year two I want to make sure to pass along any knowledge I learned in my rookie season to our fresh recruits.  Just as my team mates helped me avoid as many hard lessons as they could, I want to help my new rooks avoid as much trauma as possible.

A large leap in production is my goal this year and that started with an offseason training push.  Being able to point at this and "lead by example" is one way to contribute but I also want to show I can be a leader of this team on and off the ice.  From helping with training ideas to helping coordinate game nights.  A more hands on Duke Howard is coming up this season.

The Quebec City Citadelles Already have a strong leadership core, but the J being what it is means your top talent can be plucked up to the show at any moment.  Someone has to be ready to step in as the next "man" up.

Once Journey Man has signed onto a new team and has moved to his new city, he immediately tries to ingrain himself there by reaching out and taking on volunteer work. Being able to help give back to every community he comes into contact with is important to Journey, and management has always taken a liking to the initiative Man takes. In regards to the team, Journey spends his time off-ice trying to get to know all his new teammates on a 1 on 1 basis. Where they're from, what they like, who their spouses are, anything and everything to really get to know his teammates. Man knows that going from team to team can give him a bad rap among players and management, so getting involved early and showing that he really does care for his team and teammates is a huge thing. Hopefully management of future teams will continue to see value and leadership in Journey Man.

Option 2:

Jeremy spends a lot of his time in leadership roles. He very clearly has to fly space ships regularly, and therefore he is a genuine captain of his craft. While he makes sure to be back home in San Diego for games that he is playing, and tries to visit Winnipeg every chance that he can get, he remains one of the best cheerleaders for the team possible. Being very fair, it's hard for something that looks like a cat (but isn't a cat) to really be good at being a leader. Most of Jeremy's newest team are afraid of him, to be fair, because he continually puts the puck, or sometimes the net, and once, the goalie, inside of his mouth and stomach. They don't always stay there for long, but it's enough to make his teammates afraid of him. So instead of trying to make sure that they're doing the right thing and leading by example, Jeremy instead apparently leads with fear.

Ongo Gablogian would never, I repeat never, would ever be asked to go on stage and speak at any sort of public event such as the draft. But we will suspend disbelief I guess for a little while and pretend that even tho Vandy fired me from being his co gm that maybe he would want be involved in some capacity with the team and their decisions. First off, they would definitely have to find a smaller podium if they use one, otherwise the top of it would cover everything but his eyes and bald ass forehead. Also the microphone would be way too high. I guess they could just get him a stepping stool. He would most definitely fuck up the name of the player too, especially if they have a name more difficult to pronounce than Jon Smith. He’s an art collector, not a cultural guru. He’d also probably be drunk as shit the entire time.

Willow will be very accepting of the opportunity to announce the draft pick just because she thinks the drafts take way too long to begin with and she’ll do anything to make sure it goes by as fast as humanly possible. So when the leagues announces the Los Angeles is on the clock, Willow immediately begins shooting daggers at everyone in the war room telling them to hurry up and just pick already. By the time the pick is called in, Willow is already power walking down towards the stage despite the league telling her to hold off. Despite the best efforts of the security guards and the SHL commissioners, Willow will barge past everyone and get to the podium. Without checking to see if they’re in commercial or not, she will just shout out the name of the player and point at them with her patented “get moving” stare. Fearing for their lives, the player sprints to the podium and poses.

Many say Sydney Shaw got her spot on the San Fran Pride because her mother is the general manager. However, she has tried hard obtain this position as leader. As viewed by the teammates. Doting the offseason she is often arranging get togethers for the team. From pool party’s and BBQs to golfing and beers. It is very important to maintain friendships and community off the ice to translate that to on ice production. Sydney makes it clear that she is always available to talk, hit the ice for extra practice, or help out in many other ways. This helps keep the trust of the players. Now Sydney hates training camp, but she makes it a point to be there every season. Even with minimal rookies, it’s important to be there. From practicing with B squad to making yourself better. There is a lot to be said about leading by example.
