S79 PT #0: Drafting Some Leadership

Emeric gagner is the type of player who likes to lead by example. At the end of the season, when all the players are cleaning out their stalls in the locker room and getting ready to head home for the off-season, there is one player who noticably has not packed anything away. Emeric has worked out a deal with his team's management that allows him to stay at the rink in the off-season and keep working on his game. That way, when training camp starts, he's the one out there already in game shape and leading all the drills. He thinks this encourages the rest of his team to get ready for the season earlier too, and perhaps motivate them to put in even more effort. In reality, his team just thinks he sucks up to management and tried to get on their good side. If nothing else, at least it is helping him in improving his game.

Volta is always pleased to announce a pick for the team that he will play for. In fact, that’s a good sign for a rookie to see a veteran announcing his name for a pick. It will be like a serious draft announcement since it’s always professional to announce picks for a draft pick. Nothing is a show or a meme (if you don’t spell his name wrong lol). Volta already announced the second pick for the Tidal before, during his second season, to announce that he was the best rookie of his class during the first year of his SMJHL season. Well obviously, Volta will thank the management team to trust him to make the pick and play for the team he’s on, because remember, he was traded twice (one to Nevada and the recent one to Colorado). Hoang’s been around English speakers now for longer than he’s been in his home country, so his grasp on both the language and the dialect has been a progressing point of pride for him. Friends detect a noticeable Upper-Midwest sing-song accent to his sentences, a growing sign that Minnesota has rubbed off on him. Still, the Monarchs’ brass did him no favors in acquiring just one Anglo-sounding named player in the S79 Draft (one born in Japan, but one named as such nonetheless), Grindle Waters-Johnson. The thought of getting up on stage again to announce Normand Marineau’s name makes him sweat, nevermind Dieter Frühstück’s acquisition round, or Ela Solberg in the 2nd. Still, he’s a good sport about names, always deferring if he feels it will put him in a tough position, apologizing as he learns lessons the hard way. Another local custom that Hoang has picked up, being “Minnesota nice”, is paying off.

Well this is a cute hypothetical, since SFP hasn't drafted anyone since around season 76. On top of that, it's not been in the first round ever since season 71. Viktor doesn't remember what a first round draft pick looks like anymore, but I suppose that would make the event that much more worthy of spectacle. So yeah, old rickity bones Hargreeves would be more than happy to announce the San Francisco Pride's first pick in literal eons. It won't take any thinking on his part; memorize a name and number, and spit it into a mic. Shake a few hands, smile for the camera. Go home and take a boatload of Robax. He's done it all before on different stages, and in front of different cameras over different topics, but it's all more or less the same in the end. He'd probably try and make it memorable by bringing a cat wearing a little faux lion's mane up there with him for the announcement. The internet tends to gobble cats up.

Leaders on a hockey team are players who are often there for their team on and off the ice, in season, in playoffs in the offseason. What does your player do during the offseason to show that they’re a leader to management? Do they assist in helping get some teammates up to speed? Do they volunteer to partake in training camp even if they need not show up yet? Or do they simply focus on themselves, aiming to lead by example?
Response: In order for Walbilly Koala to show management that he is capable of being a leader, he runs a speed practice for his fellow players starting at 7 a.m. for two weeks. They speed around the rink as fast as they can altogether. This is a good way for everyone to test and improve their acceleration, speed, agility, balance, and stamina. So essentially, almost all of the physical stats! Everyone is competing against each other, but most importantly, they are competing against themselves so that they may see gradual improvement over the two weeks of speed training. This is a purely volunteer position, and I would expect no compensation for it, or even recognition. But it certainly would be nice to see it! Walbilly would also use this chance to improve himself, and during these exercises, he’d try to lead by example. As a Speedy Forward on the Right Wing, all of the abilities being trained are frequently used by the little koala. 164 words

Ana Söderström was the captain during her SMJHL days for the Detroit Falcons, but she won't have to take as active of a leadership role as she transitions into life in the SHL. This change suits her pretty well as she's always been a fairly reserved player, even going back to her childhood days. Regardless, she knows as well as anyone how critical the role of hard work and dedication is to succeeding in a new environment, as she's had to do that everywhere she's been for the last four years of her life, so it's something that just comes as second nature to her. All Ana is focused on right now is making herself an important part of the team and instilling those routines of work ethic and perseverance in every Dragons player and prospect that comes after her, and she's got a pretty good mindset for it. Maybe down the line she'll take more of an active leadership role, but for now she's just happy to show up and play her best.

Shawn Pawn has been given the privilege of announcing who the Tampa Bay Barracuda select in the first round. Shawn Pawn was on the fence about agreeing to announce the pick as he did not want to come off looking like a dork or some other brand hurting thing. Since Shawn Pawn has always kept quiet with the media and lived a private life; Shawn Pawn did not want this first limelight appearance to form a brand outside of the realm of what Shawn Pawn wanted public opinion to be of him. You only get one shot at a first impression on a national and global scale and you definitely do not want to come off looking like a dweeb or some limpdick melvin (no melvins were harmed in the making of this film). So when Shawn Pawn agreed to announce the pick it was on the condition that it had to be presented exactly in the way that Shawn Pawn envisioned.

Cal Juice is extremely excited to be given the honor of announcing the team's first round pick this season. It's not so much about the announcement itself, it's just saying some words, the excitement comes from being told that you are so important to this team that you are the face of the franchise that we want everyone to see. You're the person who sells jerseys, you're the person we want to shake the hand of our new players and you're the person we want the media talking about to get fans excited for the upcoming season. So of course Cal Juice is going to do it. He's going to put down the juice box for once, dress professionally, go up on that stage and say the name perfectly. Nothing special, nothing fancy and no slip ups. Just like every other boring face of every franchise. The SHL really needs its own version of Faceoff to spice things up for the fans.

Gordon William Gibbles spends a lot of his time helping out his teammates in the offseason. So much that he was just named as the team captain for Season 79. He learned from his Dad who often spent a lot of time helping new players in Minnesota acclimate to the SHL. They have an indoor practice rink set up at the family vacation home just outside of the city that all of GW Gibbles' teammates are welcome to come and use during the offseason. There have been many HOF players that have stopped by to help teach the new generation of SHL talent. Gibbles has also been a stalwart assistant coach at the Great Falls Grizzlies training camps over the past few seasons, even after making the jump to the big show. While Sonja is certainly a leader both on and off the ice, she does not go out of her own way to show it or make it obvious. After all she is the type of player who leads by example. Be that being the first person to arrive to training and being the last one to leave. Or be that by covering the most distance during a game while also being helpful to her team. And this mentality is not something that Sonja forces onto herself like a mask, it comes naturally to her. After all her whole life she had to put the extra work in to keep up with people more talented around her. As such being a hard worker have been her thing since the very begining. And she also hopes to motivate her teammates that way, to show them this is something they can do as well. So in reality she is not the most vocal but rather she aims to lead the team with her actions rather than her words. (175 words)

I think getting drafted in the SHL is one of the most important moments of any young players career. As someone who has been around for a long time in the SHL, I know how important it is and how you never forget the team that calls your name. My first player Claudio Krejci was selected by Winnipeg in something like Season 7 or Season 8 and I remember it like it was yesterday, even though it was 70 seasons ago.
The most important moment about being selected is making it about the player being chosen. As much as I am someone who has a personality to be a jokester or to lighten the mood, I want to make sure the guy we take has a memory that is about HIM! Going into the draft, I am assuming we would have an idea of the type of player we would get. If I decide to do something, and that is a big if, it would be to try and incorporate some info about his family or friends that he really finds touching but not more than that.

The Panthers are full of leaders beyond just the ones who have been given letters. Multiple Cups back to back are proof of that and when you're part of an environment like that, every player feels like they have to step up and do their part to help lead the team moving forward. During the season, Akerson is the type to lead by example by going out on the ice and giving his all to really stick it to their opponents and hype up his team but in the off season it's a little more difficult. He still try's to lead through example though by flying back to Los Angeles early. Always early for camp, he works hard to provide a good example to all of the fresh faces in the training camp while still perfecting the skills that have kept him up in the big league and helped his team win those Cups.

Heading in to the draft for season 80, Jimbob Ghostkeeper was just excited to no longer be the only rookie in the locker room. He was the Detroit Falcons' only pick in the S79 pick, and he was growing more and more excited to welcome the new recruits to the show after his rookie season. He was extremely surprised when he was given the opportunity to announce the pick at the draft. Being a reserved guy, the idea of standing up on a podium to talk in front of a crowd was intimidating to say the least. Jimbob spent hours upon hours preparing for the task, ready to be able to stand up to the task. All he had to do was say a name, it should have been no big deal. Upon him coming to the podium, all knowledge of hockey left his mind. He blanked, and stood at the podium for an unfortunate amount of time before he was nudged and reminded of the name of the draft pick. Relieved and elated that his time in the limelight was over, Ghostkeeper bolted and made a beeline straight to the locker room to meet his new teammates. The new season is upon us, happy hockey season everyone.
