S79 PT #1: All Of The Lights Due: Sunday, October 20th @ 11:59 PM PST
#1

Please pick ONE prompt to write about. Do not mix and match prompts. Identify the prompt you are using in your submission - Copying and pasting the prompt will deduct from your word count so if you do this make sure YOUR submission is 150+ words excluding the prompt.

Written Option 1: Just before opening night a new law gets signed that requires every light on the stadium to be changed to led bulbs. And it just so happens that your player had angered the GM only few days ago so they do the only reasonable thing and make it your players job to change the bulbs, over the weekend. What did your player do to anger the GM? Was it intentional, accident, did they get framed or is it just a misunderstanding? How does your player perform the task? Or do they just outright refuse?

Graphic Option 1: Create an image that shows your player pissing off their GM.

Written Option 2: Hockey is back, so is the media covering it. Each player gets their time on the spotlight, but how does your player handle it? How big part they are for their team’s marketing campaigns and how does your player feel about that? How much they like addressing the media, trying to get out with as few words as possible or trying to make themselves as well known to land some hefty sponsorship deals?

Graphic Option 2: Create an image that shows your player talking to media.

You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all requirements.

All responses are due on Sunday, October 20th at 11:59 PST. NOTE: IF YOU SUBMIT/EDIT AFTER THE DEADLINE YOU WILL RECEIVE REDUCED/NO TPE.

Graphics need to be viewable when PT is graded or you will not receive TPE. Discord only hosts images for very limited time.

Affiliate claims from either PBE or ISFL or WSLB or SSL are accepted; link directly to your post and note if your username is different there.

If you have any questions/concerns, please PM me. Tasks with malicious intent will not be graded. The graders reserve the right to determine malicious intent, after discussion with me. You will not be warned.

This task is for SHL players and send downs only. If your player is S80 this is not for you.

Written Option 2: Alexa is a star. She was a star for St Louis and is already one for Edmonton, too. She's the captain of the team, the most promising rookie in a group of VERY promising rookies, and she's coming up to the SHL after her best ever J season, and her first ever nomination to the J South All Star team. She's got years of experience by this point with dealing with the media, dealing with interviews, and being the face of a franchise, starting with her J draft when she was a surprise 2OA pick. She's cool and collected in interviews by now, and semi-famous for her short, blunt answers. Sometimes, people even find this refreshing, since Alexa has never been the kind to want to waste time with the typical athlete platitudes for no reason, much preferring to speak openly and honestly. If that will get her deals, or more media focus, then it will, but what happens happens.

Will Nuck maybe a rising young star in the Hamilton organization and the team would love to use him as a poster boy of things to come. But the young defender from Germany would just the same stay out of the limelight and concentrate on his craft. Some players can eat up the spotlight and excel in a flash photography world but not Will. He is at his best when he has his nose to the grindstone and just worries about hockey on and off the ice. He will definitely be a cornerstone player for the team for many years to come but when put in front of the press, he tends to dwell on his responses and allows it to creep into his on ice performances. To get the very best hockey out of Nuck, its best to just leave him to his training and off ice rituals as to not do as they say and not mess with a good thing.

Task 2:

William Salming is very familiar with the media coverage because he has played already 20 seasons in the SHL. He was one of the original Argonauts' draft picks and that's why big part of the marketing year after year. His jerseys were among TOP5 most sold jerseys. But now he is a Steelhawk after offseason transfer. There are bigger stars in the team than Salming who is just now in a depth role. But of course there is some hype around him because of his successful career and local media is interested in what Salming can bring to the table for this Hamilton Steelhawks team this season with his experience from tough situations. Salming always likes to talk with the media a lot so he has already spend a good amount of time for chatting for local journalists and reporters. And Salming plans to continue his monthly Q and A sessions with the fans also in the Hamilton so fans get to know him better and media also gets some good quotes from those sessions, Salming believes. It will be interesting to see if local media is critical towards William if results are not good.

Tip Toasty is no stranger to media and building a public identity. In college, Toasty got experience with media and public relations, meaning he got pretty good at figuring out the right thing to say in many situations. He may come across as reserved in interviews, but if you asked Toasty he’d tell you he says all he feels like he needs to say.

Toasty’s guilty pleasure is interviews. He enjoys answering questions, almost viewing it as a challenge. On the flip side, he did not enjoy being the center of attention on camera or acting in commercials. He prefers a more genuine form of communication and takes part in the more authentic social media campaigns, like answering silly get to know a player questions or interacting with fans. Overall, Toasty is willing to do his part but really prefers playing the game over stressing about the way he looks on camera.

Option 1:

So during a particularly intense practice in which Jussi Mutou was working on his slapshot, the GM just happened to be standing behind the glass right where the little camera hole is. Now, Jussi Mutou ended up getting distracted thinking about his brand new Honda Odyssey. It’s the perfect vehicle for long road trips with room for the whole family and more. Now this isn’t any old minivan. This is the Honda Odyssey. With its 12.8 inch screen on the rear entertainment system, Mutou’s kids (he doesn’t have any) can enjoy Ice Age 3 seventeen times in a row!

So of course, Jussi Mutou’s slapshot somehow found its way through the little camera hole, hitting the GM right in the stomach. Now he was furious, and rightfully so. So when it came time to change the lightbulbs, it would be none other than Jussi Mutou sent up to do the task. Of course, he would do so happily. Anything for the team.

Written Option 2:

As the current Captain at Montreal, it would be pretty difficult for Ju-gong to avoid being in too many ad campaigns. Already goalies tend to grab a little bit of the spotlight given their importance, and while also wearing the C and being an up-and-coming star, media attention would be a given. That said, Ju-gong is not the type to relish in the fame or let it get to his head, rather, he just simply uses those opportunities to thank and support the fans when possible. Additionally, he would be more than willing to give other players – like the new rookies – these chances instead. While hockey is a team sport and Ju-gong see’s it that way, he’s keenly aware that many of this teammates do enjoy the extra spot light and attention, and is thus happy to provide it whenever possible. This would even extend to something like a potential sponsorship deal, because that too is simply more media and ad time obligations he’d rather not have to fulfill if possible. While the money from things like that might be nice, bringing home the dough isn’t really the big objective as much as lifting a cup for Montreal is.

Task 2:

Being a new player on the Whalers, Enselmo isn't the biggest face in media, and definitely not a popular one due to a less than amazing rookie season, but this year he is hoping to be more of a crucial player to Vancouver. He would take on a lot of sponsorships where some of his teammates might not, always ready for a mic getting shoved up his face or having to go to a big sponsor event doing whatever. He would be really eager to get out and boost the teams sponsors and make a bigger name for himself both on and off the ice.
He's hoping that making a bigger appearance off the ice will get him a little more recognition and that might help his growing career in the year ahead. He's always ready to speak at a press conference or go to a charity for whatever random thing his sponsors have ready for him.

Luca thrives in front of the cameras and reporters. He loves doing promo shoots for the team and showing off whenever he can. Luca is one of the few on the Specters who get the nod to do media pressers during and after games. Luca does not bad talk anyone or any organization while doing these and is seen as a positive player on the team. Once he gets talking, there is no stopping him. He can talk and talk and talk, until he is blue in the face. Besides the media, Luca likes to make himself available for fans too. Some people think Luca only does it for the potential sponsorship deals, but honestly, he does it because he loves it. He loves the attention, he loves talking about hockey, and he loves being the dude for the job. Would sponsorship deals make it better for Luca? Sure, but that is not why he does it.

option 2

dieter frühstück is a big guy. when you look at a six foot nine, 275 pound guy, of course your first reaction is to listen to what he says. the anchorage armada's media team very smartly took advantage of this, and put him at the center of the team's preseason media push. frühstück doesn't really care about it because he kind of likes the attention, especially following the draft. he wants to let teams know how much of a mistake it was to let him fall into the second round, so for him the best way to do that besides playing and earning well is getting involved in the media. so he talks about everything when the press have questions. he tries to remain respectful of the other teams, but he wants to get the point across that he's a good hockey player, and that he's here to stay.

Written Option 2:

Shaggy doesn't mind the media. He wouldn't describe himself as a huge fan of all the marketing or that he would be the first who would jump at the next interview opportunity, but he also understands that it is part of the job of a pro hockey player. Now having been part of this show for a good decade, including the SMJHL, it is simpply something you get used to. The more often you do it, the easier it gets. In the end it's almost always the same questions and the same answers, it's not very difficult and it has gotten a lot less stressful over the years. For him the most stressful media season was his first season in Toronto due to the extra pressure with all the family history there. The media in Winnipeg has been quite alright in comparison and he really doesn't mind talking to them after games. Being team captain he often has no other choice anyway.

Option 2: Marek is a real lunch pail type guy. As he is neither at the top end of the league or his own roster, the media doesnt bother him as much as it does others. When he does get to participate in a piece, Marek comes off as genuine, well spoken and humble - he's never over the top or too emotional in his interactions with the media and ego is not a factor in any interviews or press conferences. a team-first player, Marek is always respectful of his teammates, the opponent, and the officials. This isnt to say he has no personality and just gives generic hockey answers - he also lets his hockey intelligence and analytical side come through, trying to convey a lot of information without making things too lengthy or complicated. He's a real thoughtful in his answers. Marek does participate in team marketing material as well, but he has the same approach - soft spoken and genuine. Hes not going to scream or yell or dance or wear anything too flashy to stand out from the others - but he will do whatever it takes to help the team acheive its goals both on and off the ice.
