The Ottawa Highlanders have had a rough start to the year, with a couple rookies finding their feet in a new league. They have found some good starts in their most recent games and we can start off with the good things that the Highlanders are doing, Goalie Jeff Kirkstone III has come out to a hot start. Winning 4 of 4 games they have been in, with a Save Percentage of 0.948. From a great goaltender to a defensive core looking to grow and become studs in front of their net minders, this D core is just getting their feet wet for what they can do in the future, growing together and building chemistry they are only gonna get better. Many of the D core have been careful with the puck, with none of them giving away pucks all too often. Building a core that takes shots to their legs, gets the puck up the ice, and does well to keep possession is exactly what the Highlanders should be looking forward to. The forwards on the Highlanders, taking those pucks given by the Defensive core and turning it into magic on the other side of the ice, there are so many players on the front end looking for that goal leader spot, but right now one man holds that title. Spaceman Spiff, the second line left wing has stunned in the beginning of the season getting 9 goals in 11 games with a team leading 7 goals at even strength. He could not have done it without his two guys on the line with him, Hotdog Lunch and Clarence Worley. This line has combined for 55 points, with 33 of those being assists. The Rookie duo this season in Leo Carlsson and Pavel Mintyukov are looking to establish themselves as a force in this league! Their fight and their playmaking will prove them to be really exciting and have great plays. Whether it is a Leo Carlsson goal or assist, or a big Pavel Mintyukov fight to try to change the energy of the game. Pavel Mintyukov has been finding his stride, looking for fights and trying to keep the puck out of his own net. This duo will always keep you excited. Leo Carlsson always wants the puck on his stick, he wants to score or assist in a goal at every moment. His eyes crave the red goal light and if you touch his teammates he will check you right out of your socks. Leo Carlsson has exceptional speed and exceptional hands, and his size also let's him be a force and strong on and off the puck. This kid will be nasty the more TPE he earns. Pavel Mintyukov is looking to be dominant in his own zone and be able to get the offense going the moment the puck touches his stick. He is a newer addition who just missed the draft so giving him a bit of time to learn everything and let the kid develop will be a great return for the Highlanders. If this team can keep getting exceptional play from their stars and that young core keeps maturing they are gonna have a bright future in the SMJHL.
