S79 PT #2: Person's Best Friend Due: Sunday, October 27th @ 11:59 PM PST

Quote:Written Option 1: Nothing compares to the joy of coming home to a loyal companion, or so does your GM think as they come up with the idea to boost morale of the team and to get a mascot for the team with one move. So they will get a team pet (if there already isn't one), but they let players pick what it will be. So what kind of pet will it be? What will it be called? Does it just hang around the arena or training facilities or will it go into the locker or even join the team on bench (I’m pretty sure there is no rule in SHL forbidding gooses from the bench)? Who takes care of it? Will there be dedicated staff for it or will it spend a week with each player?

There's an effort to use the pet as a mascot of the team, not just a companion for the players.

Therefore, the pet is a giant eagle named firestorm. The feathers of the bird are all painted orange, red, yellow, in order to make it look like a phoenix. During the game, it flies above the ice surface, with special attention paid to the opposing team's bench and the opposing players on the ice.

There's dedicated staff who are tasked with keeping the feathers painted, feeding it small animals like rodents and smaller birds, and making sure that it never harasses the fans or players on the Inferno.

The players are allowed to take the 'Phoenix' home when they choose to, but there is a limit on the amount of time you can take the bird so as to give everyone an equal chance to spend time with Firestorm.

I would imagine at some point the league would step in and force the team to keep the Eagle contained during games so that there isn’t a competitive advantage for the home team.

In Venice, there are very few places to skate, let alone play hockey. When Cristoforo Roccamontepiano first went to the skating rink in Campo San Polo, he fell in love, it was all he wanted to do. This cought the eye of a Swedish man by the name of Pälle Svärdsmakare, who frequently spent time at the rink. The Roccamontepiano family were lucky as they didn't know the first thing about skating, and Pälle had extensive experience; a short professional hockey career in Sweden before becoming a skating coach/trainer, and now recently retiring from that and moving to Italy in order to grow the game he loves by helping kids and young families get started. After teaching Cristoforo how to skate, Pälle introduced him to the game of hockey, working closely with him on his skills with the puck, his strength, and his read of the ice, helping him improve until he was good enough to make it into the SMJHL. Cristoforo now leans more heavily on his team's trainers to get him to the next level, but he'll forever be grateful for Pälle helping him all those years, and still every summer goes back to work out with him in Italy, or goes to visit who he considers his second family, the Svärdsmakares, in Sweden.

Written option 1: The Kelowna knights GM though getting a pet for a mascot would be a great way to raise morale, which is at a lower than normal point at this point in time. However, the pet needed to be lower maintenance due to many of the knights being rather low energy. A cat would be better, as they are more independent than dogs are. A Maine coon is the perfect pick, as they are large and have a lot of fur so they will not get cold up in Kelowna, and they are often sociable and friendly, earning them the nickname of "gentle giants" (they are a BIG cat). Jauhnne Hawky and Jon-Isaac Forty-One would be the main members of the team to take care of the cat, as they are the team captain and assistant captain respectively. As for the cat's name, the team are the knights, so if the cat is male it would be Arthur and if it was female it would be Guinevere.

There is no better team pet than a dog. Hockey teams all over the world have been employing a team hockey dog and trotting them all over the ice during practice or for whatever kind of media that they want to use to promote the game through the use of those four paws.

As an absolute dog lover, when the Chicago GM came and asked the team what we wanted for a team pet, a golden retriever was our first choice. And we named him Syndi. Syndi comes with us out to practice for the last 15 mins every day and chases down pucks to make sure that we are covering up on icing or getting to the red line when we are making our dump ins. The biggest challenge for Syndi is that we don’t have water BOWLS on the bench and we don’t normally drink from a nipple topped water bottle. So we always gotta have cookies and a big water bottle stocked up in the locker room. It’s been great to have a team pet this season

this was a very elaborate and weird prank targeted primarily at philippe eko eel. philippe eko eel is, of course, an eel. but he's a player on the team - one of the best players, in fact - so he can't exactly be the mascot team pet thingy. but, the pranksters on the team such as @goldenglutes (not on the team right now btw) and @micool132 and @Jepox thought it would be funny to get a regular eel to keep around the lcoker room. while philippe eko eel is playing hockey and fulfilling sponsorships and winning awards and having human friends and communicating, there's a regular eel who's incapable of doing all of those things who lives in a tank in the atlanta inferno locker room. they've named him Neil the Real Eel and he's been a source of bonding for the entire team except for philippe eko eel who finds it pretty weird and off-putting. the team likes to get together and feed Neil the Real Eel some eel food every now and then and sometimes philippe eko eel grabs a lil bite even though he mostly eats human food now

Written Option 1:

The atalanta locker room was in need of a new pet animal to rally around. The team from the simulation hockey league was in need of a cheer up moment and micool one hhundred and thirty two had the perfect plan for that amiright @goldenglutes ? Micool captured Moo Deng from her zoo in thailand and brought it to Atlanta. The team loves moo deng have you seen that baby pigmy hippopotammus lol its so cute. Moo deng means bouncy pork lmao who calls and hippo like that its so silly. I think @Bongo is the one that loves moo deng the most out of the current roster and @duff im not so sure because duff usually loves toads and bears but i dont know about baby pigmy hippos. In the end, the team had to send back moo deng as she was unhappy in the home of coca-cola and nothing makes us sadder than sad animals except losing a hockey game so back she went to thailand.

Well I think the choice for animal is kinda of obvious since an eagle is our logo and yes that is what management decided to bring in as a mascot. I'm really surprised but the eagle was surprisingly well trained, although my name for the eagle was rejects, apparently Eagley is already copyrighted. So after that I didn't care what they named it, they also rejected my idea of letting it fly around the stadium during game day but apparently that's considered a 'safety hazard" which is really lame but whatever. So instead the eagle just chills with us in the locker room, you'd think he'd be annoying but actually he's really cool. They do let him fly a little bit when we skate out and he's a good bird and stays in between the net. Also our mascot has his own team to take care of him so we don't have to.

For me, the personal coaching staff is the most important to me. They are two people, the skating coach and the skills coach. They are both important as they are the main reason if my success on the ice in the SMJHL.
They are ex players in the SHL that my brother played with and he knows them so he have some intel about them and told me they would be a good fit.
So a skating coach is important early in the career to be able to get an edge over the others as we are all young and developing our self as fast and agile skater.
The skill coach can be able to get you to the next level by teaching you how to react to specific situation, how to use your stick correctly while shooting or trying to make yourself free from the other team coverage, etc.

So far I think both did a great job as I've played well last season and I think I'm doing not bad either this season. Let's see what they can do in the off season before I'm going to the SHL.

Pavel Catsyuk snuck a ride to practice and no one could say no to that face . . . So now he's the new team feline.

I'm a cat person (girlfriend and I have 6) and I think cats are great for a team to be able to take care of with the amount of travel they have to do. Cats also remind me of goalies in a lot of ways as they're kinda weird, they tend to be a little less social, but they do show their love when they truly love you. Plus I think that in our case, we're the San Francisco Pride and it would make perfect sense for us to have a team cat. It's also a nice change from every team that seems to have a team dog. I know those are usually being trained to be a service animal, which I absolutely love, but there are so many cats that exist in shelters or are strays that would be great to bring in to have a good home, safe space, and lots of love. It might inspire some people to go adopt or help with a TNR situation in their local area too.

The Montreal Patriotes do not have a designated team pet, but there's a friendly stray cat they have seen around the practice facility that the players have started to refer to as Boots, of course due to its white feet that stand out on its otherwise black coat. No one knows where Boots came from, but ever since the arrival of the cat, the team's performance and luck have really turned around for the better. Shots are going in, deflections are there when needed, weird positive random bounces keep happening, and everyone even seems heathier overall. Not ones to mess with superstition, the team has taken to ensuring that Boots is well looked after by arena staff, and have pooled money to ensure there are multiple litter boxes and food dishes stored around the facility to make sure that Boots is healthy and happy and has no desire to leave.

Option 2

The main person who is probably the most important to Literally Wizard's career is most likely the team statistician, while they do a lot of work behind the scenes and are not exactly skilled at the sport they hold a lot of value in the work they do. The statistician provides Wizard with ideas on who he is facing and how he can expose the weak points of a defense to set up for big plays and what may be an optimal play. Ultimately, the goal between the two is to create a connection utilizing a gap in the defense and advanced placement of players by the offense to generate the perfect play. Now you may be wondering how these two are synced wavelength wise. Well they have been working together since Wizards early days and actually Calgary had not had a team statistician till Wizard had came on board and had recommended this person to them to help improve the team.

Option 1: Nevadas obvious choice for a mascot would have to be a Ram, but with a twist. Kiwi would spend time teaching it to get balance on its two legs and as a rite of passage, all rookies would have to box with it when joining the team. Both Slava & Hip Hurts would be the coaches for rookies joining the team to prep them vs Wham Bam Ram. Training of Wham Bam would be handled by Badger, teaching him different fighting techniques such as, honey badger biting, muy thai and African street dancing. All team goalies would be charge of Wham Bam Ram’s haircut. We would collectively choose as a team the most intimidating cuts possible… including classics like mohawks & bowl cuts to not only intimidate the new rookies before their boxing matches but, to strike fear into opposing mascots. Who realistically would try to fight a ram standing on its hind legs with a bowl cut?

Celeste is a big fan of reptiles, but you obviously can't really have a snake or lizard in a hockey rink, so they defer to their teammates on what they want for a team pet. Except for the part where they think it would be extremely funny to get a parrot, because the mental image of a parrot repeating the kinds of phrases you hear in hockey spaces is deeply hilarious to them. I mean, come on, just picture a bird squawking out things like "absolute beauty" or generally just being foul mouthed as so many birds often end up being. It would have to be red, of course, because they have to stay on brand, but the naming could be put up to the fans- they'd probably be better at it than the players on the team!

On top of all that, the idea of a parrot perching on players' helmets or on the stick rack is just deeply hilarious. Give the damn thing free reign.
