Scar Bealey is in a unique situation in the SHL right now. As part of the “next wave” of New Orleans Specters coming up from the minors, Scar has played most of his season with the other members of the new nucleus, in Blade Hunter and Lyle Odelein IV. The idea that Specters’ management has was that they entire line would be called up to the SHL together, and they’d start to play together and develop career long high chemistry as well. Things have gone mostly well, and Lyle Odelein had a pretty nice rookie year because of it. Off the ice, the 3 amigos hang out and all have apartments in the same complex. They ride together to and from the arena whenever they can, they always hang out when they’re on the road. They’re quickly becoming best friends off the ice as well. It’s not “mission accomplished” just yet in New Orleans, but the “next wave” really seems to be bonding well. (164)

Cal Juice isn't on social media at all because it's really just one big distraction from trying to become better at hockey. There are too many things out there vying for your attention at all times and that shows just how valuable your attention is. So he thinks you need to safeguard your attention, regardless of what you spend it on instead of social media it's better. Meditating, reading, doing nothing. They're all bette than getting sucked into your phone at all hours of the day to watch people have fights on the Internet over things that will never effect anyone. It's more much important to think about the real world. Because of that Cal Juice spends his free time on making his own home made juice! He's learned a lot about the juicing process of many different fruits and veggies and thinks he has the perfect blend going. Maybe coming to a store near you?

Weston Windsor has spent most of his career under the magnifying glass: the son of a famous SHL player, it was assumed he would be one of two options: either a stellar success, or a humiliating bust. It's anyone's guess where on the pendulum he'll fall. Even so, it's led to him taking a rather familiar strategy for dealing with social media and media pressure: he'll seemingly ignore the noise for most of the season, only to twist and turn and decide to send out a passive aggressive tweet when something really bothers him.

It's not a smart strategy, no: but like dozens of players before him, Weston is disciplined so long as his emotions stay in check. He can handle the insinuations that he's not as good as his father, the complaints about his 'soft' player. But, he can't abide the claims that he's simply not trying hard enough: some offense drawn from a player that truly wants to be known as a good teammate, despite all evidence to the contrary.

When play on the ice won't silence your critics, just vague-tweet about them. That's mature, right?

Social media is a super important part of sports nowadays and the one thing that I find crazy all the time is how many stories and stuff gets posted in the spotlight. I use examples in the past with a player like Dennis Rodman. If he was playing in the Twitter or TikTok era, his career would have never even started. He must have party stories and things that have happened behind the scenes that never made it to the spotlight. Who knows of the amount of drugs and drinks were consumed back then and in the hay days of those party times. It can be super negative and that’s why I try not to use it that much. So many fake stories circlulate online and it’s a terrible thing to do to get involved or use a burner account like Kevin Durant. Let people say what they want and just don’t listen to the noise, focus on my game and the goal and play my game. That’s it that’s all.

For Sven Holmberg, social media as far his hockey career is very limited. He knows how easy it can be to fall to all the negativity that will come with social media as a hockey player, so he limits how much time he spends on it. The only hockey media he follows is the official team account for his current team, every other account is unrelated to hockey. He wants to limit his exposure to negativity that comes with sports fans, as to better keep his mental health in a good space. Every now and then a post will slip through, but he tries not to dwell too much on the words that a random fan has to say about his play. At the end of the day the only people that can be truly upset with his play is the coach and general manager of the team he is on. Everyone else is just extra filler that can be filtered out.

Anna played on a line with fellow season 76 draftees Jennifer Huh and James Howlett. When a team takes three very talented forwards in the first round of a draft, the safe assumption is that the team hopes that they all play together in the pros. This was the case with the three Dragons prospects, and the early returns on the strategy seem to be paying off. The trio combined for an impressive 124 points in their roookie season, doing so despite being frequently thrown to the wolves against the opponents top players. The three forwards clashed frequently during their times in the minor leagues, but were friendly with each other knowing that they would probably be team mates for a long time in the pros. They can be frequently seen after practice working on passing drills thanks to Anna's persistence on extra practice, she is determined to turn them into the best line on the Dragons within two seasons.

Elaina Beneski maintains her social media presence religiously, obsessively, even. She has a document with every hashtag that could be conceived of relating to get and she searches them every day on Twitter, Bluesky, Threads and Insta. One time, after whiffing on shootout attempt, she spent the next three days flaming trolls online. It was not a pretty sight.

In a lot of ways, her obsessive management could be described as very Streisand Effect. It's not unheard of for an unflattering picture taken of her during a game to make the rounds and she will do everything she can to shut it down. This, of course, has not worked once, to no one's surprise but her own.

Her Facebook fan page is loaded with defenders who are even worse than her. They will ban users at the drop of a hat for even the weakest criticism. It has been called one of the most toxic communities on Facebook.

Olivija was once a lowly social media addict. I'm sure many of us have been there. There is a certain amount of shame in that, but we all strive to do better. She had hoped that when she quit TikTok and Twitter that she would be free of *the urge*. But nope, first it was Instagram and Youtube, and when those both SUCKED, it went to Pinterest for a bit, which is how you know you've fallen, when you're doomscrolling Pinterest. But now she's got some of her ducks in a row, and has managed to cut out pretty much all social media time, and phone time in general. Laptops, PC Monitors, and TVs aren't THAT much better, but at least it's a start. Social Media used to really weigh her down, especially as she got better and better, and more importantly, more recognizable. People just say things, and you can't take them at full weight or you're going to implode.

Rodrigo Banes is, most unfortunately, though not unlike most members of his generation, chronically online. For the most part this is an idle pastime, which does not tend to impact, nor interfere with in any meaningful way, his profession as an athlete. However, depending on the circumstances and context, the outside noise can be, at times, a lot to bear.
Such as he enjoys, nay, loves his hockey boi meme account following, and spending evenings making hype edits of his friends and costars, the pressure is always there. In a red hot hockey market like Montreal, where fans live and die by their teams, it can overwhelm and impact Roddy when the team is going through a rough stretch of games, or when his own play has not been good enough. At those times, he tries to take a few minutes to remind himself to go touch grass. Then he will get off Twitter, pop an edible, and go for a walk with his headphones full of nature sounds and pan flute.

2: It's hard not to be curious about what people are saying about you online, especially when you're a professional athlete performing for the public every other day, in plain view of tens of thousands of people; a large number of whom are rooting directly against your success. For the most part Jeff tries to stay off of social media, but its hard not to poke his head into a post-game thread on reddit or check the trending tags on twitter to see what people are saying, although his number one rule is that he can never engage/respond to anything -- positive or negative. Once people know he's out there lurking to see what people have to say, it's bound to get amplified, not to mention his DMs will be full to bursting. It's not always easy reading the latest, especially when you get into the degenerate gambling circles, but it's like a car crash, you just can't look away no matter how hard you try.
