With one season already flying by, let's take a deep breath and step back for one second here.
Task: You just played out your very first season in the SMJHL to start a new chapter in your career. Overall, how would you say you performed in your rookie season? Did you meet expectations you set for yourself individually? What do you need to improve on for next season? Were there any glorious moments that will forever be enshrined in your memory? (150 words min.) Finally, this will be the last regular SMJHL PT and starting from next season you will do tasks on SHL Player Progression forum instead, first one being mock draft for your SHL draft. But for next two weeks or so TPE checklist will also show you tasks you are not eligible yet, like Championship Week, IIHF Predictions and All-Star Week, you won’t get TPE even if you do them. Keep your eyes open for Post Season Bonanza on SMJHL Player Progression instead. That said on behalf of the PT Team, I'd like to congratulate you all for completing the first season of hopefully many great ones. We wish you best of luck in your future careers! You will receive 4 TPE for fulfilling all the requirements. All responses are due on Sunday, November 24th at 11:59 PST. NOTE: IF YOU SUBMIT/EDIT AFTER THE DEADLINE YOU WILL RECEIVE REDUCED/NO TPE. Affiliate claims from either PBE or ISFL or WSLB or SSL are accepted; link directly to your post and note if your username is different there. If you have any questions/concerns, please PM me. Tasks with malicious intent will not be graded. The graders reserve the right to determine malicious intent, after discussion with me. You will not be warned. Only S79 SMJHL rookies (S80 players) are eligible for this task. If your player is S81 (shown after name on portal), this is not for you.

Expectations can’t be higher than what going #1 sets you up with. Often going #1 means you are going to a rebuilding team that has a weaker roster and you’ll be part of that rebuild. I was told we were rebuilding but I guess a rebuild in Quebec means winning the league table, idk must be a language thing.
With those big expectations, I don’t think scoring 48 points in 66 games for a defenseman can ever be seen as bad in a rookie season. I’ve been blessed with quite a great situation with Quebec needing a 2nd powerplay quarterback giving me over 4 TOI of PP time. A very respectable DGR of 73 is quite impressive when I’m often tasked with predominantly working as an offensive defenseman, it’s my offense somehow that was lacking still. I went into this without any expectations but I’m happy with what I’ve managed to do, even when I know I’ve been dealt a great starting hand. So far my most memorable moment has been very recent, being part of the 1st goal of game 7 in the 2nd round, helping Quebec advance to the 3rd round. I hope that I can be part of even bigger playoff moments in the near future. For next season we just keep working. I have to round out all my skills and then keep working on my physical skills, can’t ever be too fast or too strong.

Looking back at Kim Chaewon's rookie season, it went above expectations! Her main goal for the season was to get acquainted with the league and familiarize herself with her new teammates and develop some chemistry with her linemates. Carolina wasn't expected to be this good and finished 1st in their conference. Going into S80, Chaewon is focused on increasing her physical attributes as there are some big and strong players that she needs to be able to compete against and in her rookie season they took advantage of her small frame and used their physicality to impose their will on her.
This off-season Kim Chaewon is going to bulk up and improve her strength, balance and speed on the ice. Being a center as well, she needs to improve her skills in the faceoff dot so there will be many faceoff drills in the off-season too. Next season in Carolina, we're going to comeback rejuvenized and hungry to build upon this past season with the lessons learned. (167 words)

Overall, extremely happy with my performance. I'm not sure how it normally goes for a rookie, but I feel like even just having four goals as a defenseman is pretty big. But also being carried into the playoffs with my team has been a lot of fun and a great experience. I've had a lot to learn about the systems and everything but really it seems pretty easy once you get a handle on it all.
I've tried to keep on top of development and will continue to do so! I think I missed a few of the posts for getting TPE but it was really just a handful. Truly came down just to being too busy. But I want to be a max earner and get as much TPE as possible so I really want to strive to get those numbers up. Overall, I think I've done well with my build and my development. I'm still learning but it's been a lot of fun to keep the momentum going.

The season didn't start well for Shiny Rainbow, rather disappointing to be true. But it started to improve around mid season after switching from the wing into the middle of the ice. In the end the statsline still turned out to be quite OK. 26 goals, 30 assists for 56 points in 66 games. However Shiny was able to shine in the only categorie that looked like a weakness for Quebec City. WIth only 34 PIM Shiny Rainbow was one of only very few players for the Citadelles to not constantly sit inside of the penalty box. Next season will be a huge challenge. Since noone in the entire league was interested to trade for the little unicorn it'll be time for Shiny to become a better all around player to secure icetime among 6 forwards who will sit at 425 TPE. Also expect Shiny Rainbow to play once again as a center next season. So there will be alot of practicing faceoffs in the offseason. And be ready for every bold prediction to become true once again. Like Quebec City winning the regular season or the first round sweep of the Vancouver Whalers.
Go Owlets and make my 3rd bold prediction also to become true: The Four Star Cup.

Aurora Borealis had a much better first season than i expected, despite going as late as she did in the draft, getting 56 points in 66 games, and having the 5th most points on the team, and second most assists, there isnt much i would change next season other than just submitting more sigs for money,, i just have to keep up with tasks and updates and i'll be good, the main thing this season that stuck out was during the draft where the person announcing my pick started it off with "good lord what is happening in there" and kept going with the whole steamed hams thing (if ur reading this i love you for that) im really looking forward to my SHL draft coming up soon, im excited to see where i land, and how ill succeed there, though i definitely want to wait a few seasons in the Junior league to make sure the battleborn bring a four star cup home to nevada

Being picked at #18 overall there wasn't as much pressure on Uwe as on some of the other picks before him. After a pretty good preseason and some intense offseason training, Uwe showed nerves in his first ever SMJHL game, specifically revealing some holes in his defensive game. Luckily his game got better and much more consistent in the weeks to follow, flying on the wings of a Citadelles team, that won 19 of 20 games after a 0-2 start. His GM's also kept giving him the minutes to get experience and build chemistry with his team and line mates. In the final stretch of the season it was a bit of a mixed bag with some decent games, but also a few stinkers. He finished the season with a pretty respectable 31 points and a +40. Obviously his offensive game needs more work still and he needs to round out the defensive aspects as well, but hopefully the experience of a grueling postseason will help him became a much better player by game day one of season 80.

Quazon Brosonchi exceeded my personal expectations for him during his rookie season. Through some good luck, he ended up on the second line for a good part of the season which led to more production. Quazon finished the regular season with 32 goals and 27 assists for a total of 59 points, which put him fourth on the team in points. He was also a +9 which, again, was fourth on the team. The disappointment this season came in the form of the post season, where the Detroit Falcons found themselves swept out of the first round courtesy of the Dinos or whatever. In Quazon's four postseason games, he earned four points which tied for first on the team in postseason production. Overall, although the Falcons have room to grow, Quazon showed that he is capable of helping his team score while at the same time seeming defensively capable as well.

Jack Ellul's first season with the Thunder Bay Walleye was a personal success. After being drafted ninth overall there were clear expectations placed upon the young rookie. Jack was able to meet those expectations by playing more than twenty minutes a night in his first year and leading the team's defence in scoring with nine goals and twenty-nine assists. Though the playoffs did not go as planned for the Walleye I had an amazing time with the team and am excited for the years to come as I continue my SMJHL career before making the jump to the SHL. Going forward, I want to continue to help my team play solid, physical hockey and be able to contribute on both sides of the puck. Knowing the team in Thunder Bay has my back and is helping guide me I know that Jack Ellul can develop into a star player and some day soon the Walleye will bring a championship to Thunder Bay.

My first season in Vancouver went well for me, personally. As a team, I think we're all in agreement that we underperformed, but we had multiple strong showings from rookies, and I'd like to think I'm one of them. As a rookie, I averaged 24:01 TOI, which was good for third on the team. My deployment was mostly at even strength as well, which allowed us to play our best defenders in PP and PK situations where they were much stronger than me. I also led my team in shots blocked, which is what I am here to do (straight defense baybee).
Personally, I did not meet my own expectations. I'll chalk it up to lofty expectations I placed on myself, but I did expect to throw more hits throughout the season, and that'll be something I focus on going into S80 on top of improving defensively, as my role is going to grow massively due to our top defenders departing for the SHL (WE SHALL MISS YOU ALL IN VANCOUVER, OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN). Our glory moment was 100% the second last sim of the season. After a brutal slog of a season, I can't describe the electricity in the locker room when we rattled of 3 consecutive wins in that sim. The celebrations ran wild, the discord pinging was crazy, and I will tell you that I DID NOT think I could be so invested in a sim league, but Vancouver has proved that you really can just fully immerse yourself in this with the right people around. I've hit my 150 word requirement, so I'll take this time to once again thank the whole Whalers organization, I've had so much more fun than I ever thought I could, and that's in big thanks to the BEST LOCKER ROOM IN THE LEAGUE. Watch out SMJHL, because the Whalers are coming.

Leo Carlsson had an great first season for what cards he was dealt. With a lack of ice-time and situations to succeed in his rookie season, he did the best he could with it. But it was also expected with the top 6 his team had, there was no more room to excel.
He played mostly on a third line with lacking defense and low ice time, but mid-way through the season a flip switched which also resulted into more ice-time and even some pp time. He ended the season with around 0.6-7ppg and most of those came from the second half. There was a stretch of games where Leo had a few multipoint games in a row, even with a few 2 goal games. So close to a rookie hatty! For his sophomore season I expect greater things, with some callups and some luck there should be room in the top 6 which hopefully allows him to show off his true potential.

Twinkle Toes started off to a very hot start, picking up points on a very consistent basis. It was an exciting time but it was not to be. Toes hit a slump a few weeks in as most rookies do and was bleeding goals defensively and not contributing offensively. So he hit the gym, trained even harder, got his TPE up and up and up. Yet, results were hard to come by. Even though Twinkle was a much improved player in the back half of the season, he could not regain his early season form. While he didn't set the world on fire in the last third of the season he was steady in both ends of the ice. He was slightly disappointed of his overall play this year. On the off-season Toes will need to work on his defensive side of his game as he was a -9 this year, 4th worst on Detroit. Hopefully next season Toes will be given a bigger role, bigger chance to prove just how much he has improved this year.

After my first season, I can say I underperformed in some aspects of my play. Some nights I had a terrible defensive rating and I would love to bring my averages up for that. I met my expectations during playoffs, I wanted less penalties and to be on the ice for as long as I could be. I made sure to make myself available to my team in the most way I could be. I want to improve my offense big time next season and look to score more and get more assists. Id love to have consistent games, and stay on a good path for the future of my team and myself. Building chemistry with my team and being more active around the league is also what I have been looking for. I loved all my fights and winning a fight was huge! I loved it for my team. Playing with my friend Leo Carlsson, and making more friends with the team as a whole was tons of fun and will be remembered throughout my entire career. HIGHLANDERS BLOOD RUNS THROUGH ME! Love you Guys!

My first season in the SMJHL was a rollercoaster but a rewarding one. Coming into the league as a rookie, my main focus is to understand the SHL as a whole and get some minutes into my player to see how he does in the SMJHL. I feel I did fine, contributing with 4 goals and 22 assists for 26 pts; my impact was more on the defensive side than on the offensive side as a two-way center, at least at the beginning; I believe that's fine. I stepped up in the playoffs, despite our 1st round exit, but in the 7 games where we came back to get to 7 games, I had 5 goals and 4 assists, also contributing to a game-winning goal in Game 4 of the series.
For next season, I would like to improve my offensive game and contribute more in game-defining moments and clutch moments. My defensive players can still contribute, but I want to be a true centrepiece San Diego builds its offence around. They can rely on me on critical faceoffs and critical moments of the game! |
