Eastern Final Preview
#1

Hey everyone it's Dale Murphy once again!

Time to get a Dale Murphy PREVIEW report. That's right it's time to preview the Eastern Finals!

1 Philadelphia Forge  Forge vs 7 Atlanta Inferno  Inferno

The Underdogs: The Inferno are coming in on a wild ride so far, upsetting the number 2 seeded New England Wolfpack in a short 6 games, and then took a pretty evenly matched Buffalo Stampede to task with a 4-0 sweep of the Buffalo. A great story may just be on its beginning. To be fair, their +39 GD was good enough for fifth in the East so maybe don't look at them as your classic underdog going on a run, but a roaring 8-2 start to the playoffs is still quite something.

Their leading scorers was the bongo Billy Herington Jiggly Puff line. The line ran about 4.1-3.5 goals for/against per 60. That line continues to be their best, Puff leads the team with 14 points (4-10) while bongo's 7 goals lead the team.
Dan Johnson was their highest scoring defender at 11-29-40 in the regular season, and his 1-6-7 line leads the defense.
In net, Stun Gun had a .899 SV with a 3.25 GAA. That has far improved in the 10 playoff games to date, Gun has a 1.95 with a .933.
Major shoutout to John Hopoate and Edouard Lavoie on managing to be -2 and -1 on an 8-2 team. It takes some talent.

The Favorites: The Forge actually ran themselves into some trouble in the first round unable to beat Manhattan in New York, so that series went the full 7. But a 5 game dispatch of Tampa Bay put them right back in the conference finals for like the millionth season in a row not included last season's flop. A +87 GD easily the best in the East and by a very wide margin.

Tony Sparano was the team's leading scorer in the regular season, as well as the best goal scorer by a wide margin (16 more than Graj Virrok). Gnabe Dabson the second line center on the team lead the team with 59 assists. In the playoffs Dobson has been the man with a 9-18-27 line. Sparano's game 5 hattrick vs Tampa improved his goal total to 8, but Dabson still has the lead.
Nathaniel Barca lead the defense in scoring at 23-35-58. But in the playoffs it has been the Cale Salad show, with a 5-10-15 line.
BASE PACK turned in another solid season with a 3.50 and a .889. His SV has improved to .900 in the playoffs, but the 3.44 GAA is still not ideal.
Shoutouts to 3WW-Wingmate Roc who has a minus 7! Johnny Shuffleboard and Barg Habite have minus 5 each. Quite impressive.

Keys to the series Atlanta  Inferno

1) Stun Gun has to stay hot. The Forge can score (they led the east in goals) but a hot goalie can make all the difference.
2) Slow down Dabson. Dabson has been a man on a mission this playoffs. Atlanta needs to slow him down.
3) Keep that bongo-Herrington-Puff line hot.

Keys to the series Philadelphia  Forge
1) BASE PACK needs to put them on their shoulders for a bit. Or at least not be god awful. Keep the Inferno under 3 a game please.
2) Dabson of course needs to be great, but its time for Tony Sparano to turn in on again. A known playoff performer.
3) The defense as a whole needs to be better. The bongo-Herrington-Puff is going to be hard to stop, it is going to take better play from the Shuffleboard-Flusso line in particular to stop the leaky defense.

Well that's all folks! All ready for some more playoff hockey???
