Congratulations on being drafted! The hard work starts now but first you need to get settled in new city, while your teammates are all ready to get to know you!

Linderberg traveled to Maine on his own following the draft since his family had to travel back home following the draft week festivities. Upon arriving everyone was super welcoming and quick to offer their help settling in. With how welcoming everyone was, nobody in particular stood above the rest, which is a really good thing. There were even some alumni around to help welcome the new players.
The team did setup a party to celebrate the new draftees. It had a food table full of Maines finest dishes. If you didnt know means there was a lot of lobster rolls and whoopie pies. These were very strange and new foods to Lindberg who has spent his whole life in Sweden. While Lindberg did enjoy it, he was ready to get to business and immedately started getting to know his potential linemates, and fellow rookie Apollo Seaborne whom he seeing himself playing with for the next few seasons.

Arriving in Vancouver as a freshly drafted prospect was surreal. Growing up in Montreal, I’d always dreamed of this moment, and now that it was real, the excitement mixed with nerves hit me hard. Luckily, my dad decided to tag along for the first week. Being a former SHL player, he knew how to help me navigate the whirlwind of change. He helped me unpack, set up my tiny apartment, and even gave me a pep talk on making a strong first impression with my new team. Telling me how I need to have management, my fellow players, and the fans believe in me.
The first time I stepped into the arena, it felt like walking into a cathedral. The smell of fresh ice, the echo of skates from a distant practice rink—it was magical. When I entered the locker room, the nameplate with my name above a stall gave me chills. A couple of the veterans were already there, giving me a nod and a quick, “Welcome, kid,” which broke the ice. Later that day, the team organized a small gathering for the rookies—a barbecue at one of the city's best Korean joints. It was incredible. Everyone was laid-back, cracking jokes, sharing stories, and making sure we felt like part of the family. They even brought out a cake shaped like a hockey rink to celebrate us draftees. It wasn’t just a warm welcome; it felt like being part of a legacy. By the time I got back to my apartment that night, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be. Say his name and he appears!

Khalfani is from the hot lands of South Africa, so moving to Kelowna has been a pretty big change for him personally as it has gone from hot all the time to cold and snow. This has definitely been a learning curve that has thrown him for the loop. At the same time, just about everything is overwhelming! Talk about taking a little fish out of his pond and sending him to the ocean. It is a good thing that the GM who drafted Khalfani has the patience of a true gentleman knight that has taken it on personally to make sure that Khalfani is welcomed with open arms and truly acclimates to the city. When Khalfani first arrived at the stadium where he was set to play, he was immediately shocked by how far the seats go. Back in Namibia he would consider himself lucky the national team even got 100 people to attend their practice sessions. Now he will be playing for a much larger crowd as he proudly proclaims his nations ability to join this world of ice sports.

Brett McMann was recently drafted 19th overall to the San Diego Tidal. McMann is thrilled to find himself a new team to play for that pays good money and luckily is right close to the water. McMann has always wanted to learn surfing so this move worked perfectly, the first thing he did when he arrived in San Diego was check out all the beaches. Shortly after, he made his way to the arena where all the recently drafted rookies were waiting. San Diego had a big draft class and so the GM wanted to have us all get together and meet each other. We had a tour of the rink, was each shown our new dressing stalls, and then was treated to a cooked dinner made by the rink’s chef crew. It was a great bonding moment for the new players. Once the dinner had completed, the rest of the team were hanging out at a bar close to the rink and so all the rookies went over to hangout and meet the rest of the team.

Following the draft where he was the 14th overall pick, Hetaksh immediately started his solo expedition to the hometown of the Carolina Krakens. He began by booking a very expensive boat (rookie contract money pays) that travels through the arctic to get to Alaska for the sole reason of sight seeing his favorite animal, the polar bear. He then heads on over to Yukon to see the beautiful northern lights and spy on the training activities done by the Yukon Malamutes. He then gets on a plane and heads on over to his hometown of Vancouver where he says goodbye to all of his family and friends and his old coaches. He gets on another plane that takes him to his new hometown where he will be staying for the next 4 seasons. As soon as he lands in Carolina he travels to the rink and practices his shooting skills in order to work towards his goal of being one of the most productive goal scorers among the s81 draft class. The day after, the team organizes a welcome party for the new rookies which consists of plenty of pineapple pizza, a warm welcome indeed!!

Bedrock arrives in town excitedly anticipating what the future holds. Bedrock has been well received by the GM of the team and you encourage him to just be himself. When he arrives at the locker room, he looks around and can't believe that he has started the journey towards his dream.
He sits in the locker room where he sees his own name and closes his eyes because he can't believe it's true. Moving to a new city is not a big upheaval for Bedrock, because he has already lived alone when he started pursuing his dream as a professional hockey player. After getting to know the locker room, he has started to get to know his teammates who also draft. The GM has told how things work in Kelowna and urged to get to know the teammates. At least there haven't been any big reception parties yet, but maybe later the so-called Rookie dinner. ( word: 155 )

Vasher took the long flight to Detroit to meet his new team. He was nervous about moving to a new town, he had lived in Santa Ana for most of his life. While he was a little overwhelmed, he knew he had some family friends that lived in the area. Having someone he knew locally helped ease his nerves a bit. After dropping some things at his temporary living situation in Detroit, he made his way to the Falcons' locker room. Upon entering, he was welcomed by lots of teammates, receiving pats on the back and hair ruffles. Vasher wasn't normally one for this type of behavior but he figured it was a tradition, so he let them get away with it. A few of the shorter players even made him hunch over to reach the top of his head. Some of the team leaders took some time and walked him around the facility and helped him get to know the place. He felt like he was beginning to fit in.

After getting off a plane from nice warm Southern California, it was nice to see the winter air be so clean and fresh. Take a look around the city, it will take some getting use to the slower paced life style of Kelowna compared to California, but Cutter is up for the change. The Knights have been very welcoming to him since they see him as a player who could help contribute to the teams success and grow within the organization. While be it alone this time, Cutter will be able to make friends fast as he never shies away from an opportunity to learn and try new things. Arriving to the arena was an incredible experience as members of the team all welcomed Cutter to, "The Knights of the Round table". Being a newly drafted Knight, it feels good to be surrounded from a very diverse and knowledgeable group of team members. Cutter typically likes to keep the calm cool and collected approach to his off ice locker room routine, but being around a group of people who are all joking around and sharing stories is enough to drop the act and be more of himself. The Knights of the Round Table will rise up this year, and hopefully Cutter will be able to make a difference as the Knights look to take the throne this year in the upcoming season. (WC 232)

The first thing Matti felt stepping off the plane and into the Great Falls airport was relief, because the flights from Reykjavik to Washington, DC to Denver to Great Falls had been... well, an experience.
The second thing he'd felt, once he had time to really think and feel, was... unbalanced. Oh, the team was wonderful. They'd had two people waiting for him at the baggage claim, a man from the coaching staff and one of the forwards. None of his frantic post-draft pre-flight research and last minute Googling had helped him with their names, but, well, 28 hour flight and all, they'd been forgiving enough. They'd made a quick stop by the front office to give him a minute to sign a few papers and to shake a few hands, and then they'd taken mercy on him, taken him to his apartment for the season and left him to crash on top of the covers. It wasn't until he'd woken up half a day later, dehydrated and bleary-eyed, that he'd realized how unsettled he felt. While he waited for yet another teammate to come pick him up for a team lunch - getting a car was quickly bumping up his list of priorities - Matti put his finger on what was so odd about this place as to leave him uncomfortable in his own skin. He was a continent and a half away from home. Where he'd grown up in a port town, here he was just slightly more than 1,000 kilometers from the nearest city with ocean access. There were trees everywhere he looked outside, instead of the familiar moss- and lichen- covered hills. Matti smiled his way through the incredible lunch the team had set out for the four of them - bear claws, of course, included for dessert. He chatted eagerly enough with the other 'bear cubs' as they made their way to the locker rooms, found their stalls, got settled in. They were great, as excited as he was - and he was excited, he kept telling himself - to hit the ice and start building onto the Grizzlies' legacy. But, through it all, there was something in him that stayed off-balance and aware of everything unfamiliar, that began to doubt whether he'd really made the right choice, thinking he could come here and play at the level they wanted of him. And then he stepped onto the ice and breathed. His nerves settled. The ice smelled the same as at home. His skates, as he took a slow lap around the rink, bit into the surface just as they had before. His crease, when he settled into it, chipped up the ice, took a few minutes to swing post to post after an imaginary puck, was much the same as his net in Akureyri. In a matter of minutes on the ice, Matti had found his new home, and he was ready. ((WC 483))

I’m not gonna lie when I was drafted by Kelowna I had to look up on a map where I was going being from a big city to a city of only 180k was an adjustment but my GM tried to make that transition as seamless as possible the surprising benefit of being in a small market is everyone is a fan there was a small group waiting at the airport with signs and when we got the the stadium it was like a red carpet event with people lined up on both side of the barricades taking pictures and asking for autographs
Getting into the locker room there was a small care package of stuff we will when living here along side the usual team apparel , a big winter coat since the Canadian winter is no joke and bottle of locally produced wine there was a rookie dinner after our tour so myself and all the other rookies could get to know each other and learn about the city together

Lancer stepped of the plane with both his parents excited to see the city he travelled to once as a 10 year old, they get into the car sent by the team and makes his driver stop at a sushi restaurant.
When arriving at his team apartment he lets his parents unpack as they are staying for a couple weeks to make sure they see him play in his first match, he heads up to the roof to take in the sights of the city and is amazing by English bay and the lights of science world. The next morning he meets up with Jacques and Matthew Leroux and they hang around and get to know each other before they head into the arena to work on some PT. After the workout and a light morning skate the GM comes and has a chat with them before the coach and the older players all take the new draftees for lunch lazer tag Lancer is going to love it here

Right off the bat, it was difficult for soon to be rookie sensation Captain Obvious when he arrived in San Diego. His celebrity status from television appearances made him stand out from others in this past draft, and that stood out as fans of his commercials greeted him at Sand Diego International Airport.
Once he took the time to greet his adoring fans, take some pictures, and sign autographs, Captain Obvious spent time exploring the sights and sounds of San Diego, and settle into his new condo room near the arena. Once that was taken care of, he, obviously, took the time to head into the arena, checking out the ice quality, the locker rooms, and the overall setup that he would be partaking of in the near future. Then he took the time to go through his personal training program on, and off, the ice, making sure he's in tip top shape to body some people and show the league that Captain Obvious is here to stay... obviously.

After the rush of draft week, Claude L'Castor would search for an apartment at a decent price off of the Vegas Strip, trying to get there ahead of time for training camp to fully adjust to living in Las Vegas.. His mother would insist on making the trip down for the first couple of days before training camp to help him settle in. Parents, am I right? But after he gets his place somewhat arranged and groceries packed, he would likely treat her to a nice meal before she would head back home to allow him to settle in and focus on hockey. Though she would remind him that she is a phone call away and she is looking forward to flying out for his first SMJHL start.
The day before training camp, Claude would likely head to the practice facility along with The Dodge Ram 1500 Hellcat Memorial Arena to get a feel of his surroundings, maybe try to make light conversation with some of the arena workers to get himself comfortable with the names and faces around. It does not matter if you run a food stand, are a Zamboni driver, or one of the team executives, he'll try to treat you with some respect. Finally, the day of the first training camp would arrive. He would get up early and try to get some morning tea at a cafe along the way. He barely slept a wink the night before, he needs a little boost of energy. Walking into the locker room area, he would see the Navy and gold of the Battleborn and his gear at his stall. Any of his new teammates he would see, he would introduce himself, shake their hands, and leave a good first impression. Especially to any members of the team's leadership group, he would try to talk to. About 35 minutes before practice starts, he would be in his gear and step onto the ice to skate any nerves off and stretch. With the blow of the whistle from the coach, his first practice would begin. Word Count: 346 |
