As I arrived in Kelowna, people welcomed me, I was surprised about the hype surrounding me. To be fair, the fans directly took me as one of them and I am grateful for that. This certainly helped me to settle in this beautiful city. The general manager of the team certainly helped me to get started by giving me any piece of advice I needed to get used to this new chapter of my life. He also helped me to target what were the points i needed to improve to become a better player and help my developpement. When I first went to the arena, I was flabbergasted. Playing in front of so many people isn’t something I was used to but now, I’ll have to get used to it. It felt like it was a temple, I had heard many good things about this rink but seeing it in real life is something else! My new teammates were also truly kind to me! They gave me a lot of advice too and wished me a warm welcome to the franchise, which I obviously liked much.

Drafted 43rd in the SMJHL, the UK native William Marshal made his way out to the desert to join his Battleborn teammates. Marshal traveled to Vegas from Boston, after coming to the states a month prior to acclimate and train for the upcoming season. In typical Harry Reid International Airport fashion, his flight was delayed, then stuck on the tarmac for 90 minutes after landing. A rather unceremonious welcome to the city, but one on par for a late round pick in a junior hockey draft. With the help of the 35th president himself, Marshal has dove right into training and shaping his game to be an effective piece for the Battleborn. While there may not be much buzz around Marshal compared to some of Nevadas other high profile prospects, Marshal seems to have accepted his role with grace, and is using his physical frame and intimidating presence during practice to help bolster the young and promising Battleborn goalie, Claude L’Castor, for the upcoming season.

Matt Retinol has arrived in Carolina. After receiving a warm welcome from teammates and management, Matt headed downtown to search for what would be his very first own apartment. After finding a place, he joined some other rookies for a dinner in the downtown core. Steak was on the menu. The next day Matt headed to the rink to check out the new locker room. Beyond impressed that the team already had a cubby waiting for him, Retinol suited up and headed to the ice. The new teammates were beyond friendly, and Matt is looking forward to the upcoming season. Matt is unsure what is planned for the rest of the week; but is confident the team will be looking after him on his new journey to eventually become a starter for the Carolina Kraken. As the day came to a close, Matt settled into bed at his new apartment, overwhelmed and in disbelief he went as high as the 3rd round of the draft. He closed his eyes and dreamt of winning his debut game with the Kraken.

It was a long journey for Sazed, traveling all the way from his homeland Terris to Great Falls. As a feruchemist, he has the ability to store his abilities, and he prepared for the long journey to Great Falls by doing just that. He rested a long time before the draft in order to travel to Great Falls, he knew he only had less than a week before he’d have to play in his first game, so he burned his entire pewtermind to get there on time.
On arrival, he was immediately greeted by the GMs of his new team, Spartan and Rankle. You see, as a Keeper of Terris, it is Sazed’s duty to collect information. They all have a specialty. His is SHL history. So he immediately got to work at his new facility, talking to management, reading team history books, interacting with his new teammates, etc. The team had a large party for the welcoming of the rookies, which of course reminded Sazed of his time spent at balls at the different keeps of Luthadel. Perhaps not as fancy, Sazed still used it as an opportunity to mingle and develop some relationships with his new teammates. This definitely wasn’t like his old crew, but he had a feeling he was going to still manage to find a way to get involved in some overthrowing of lord rulers! (Aka beat teams higher in the standings en route to an unlikely Grizz championship)

Linus Ully arrives in Alaska for a fresh start after being spotted by general manager Figgy. Figgy brings a new aspect to his life. He still doesn't know his team-mates very well, but he hopes to get to know them. Knowing that he hasn't had any scouting with the Armada. Linus is happy to have this new start on the boat. He's looking forward to meeting the whole team and establishing solid games with his coach. However, he hopes to gain his coach's trust. Linus arrives at the Sullivan Center to visit the amphitheatre where he will spend part of his life. He takes a look at the arena's appearance and you really feel like you're on a boat - the sense of atmosphere is incredible. Ully can't even imagine it with the fans yet. However, it's warmer inside the arena. Linus will have to get used to it if he plays for long in Alaska. This place looks freezing

For Matthew Leroux it was an easy transition to Vancouver given that he had signed a temporary contract the season prior to play in Kelowna before the draft, so he only had to move a few hours west within the Province of British Columbia. One of the veteran players took him under their win upon his arrival and let him stay in their spare room while he looked for a permanent apartment, which he will be doing later tonight before the team kicks off their preseason. Training camp was fun, Matthew had a leg up on some of the rookies having played briefly in the league last year and his size and strength already has him ready to compete.
A couple of the veteran guys took Matthew and the 2 other rookies out for some team bowling and treated them for dinner afterwards. The veterans weren't counting on Matthew to have been an accomplished bowler in his spare time and the rookies beat the vets head to head. Lots of jokes and stories were shared and it was a good bonding experience. Dinner was a local Japanese restaurant and Matthews first time trying sushi and some other Japanese favorites, the sushi and a few others were hits but the barbecued eel was not too great. Matthew is looking forward to bonding more with his fellow rookies and teammates as the season gets underway and he settles in here. Being Canadian, he's been to Vancouver a few times before already for hockey tournaments and whatnot. Current Player: C - Matthew Leroux [Vancouver Whalers]
Past Player: RW - David Benson [Seattle Riot/First Overall Scrub]

Finally reaching the SMJHL draft was a bittersweet moment for Seaborne, who thoroughly enjoyed his playing career in the minor leagues throughout Canada. Upon being drafted by the Timber, he rushed to pack his bags and caught the very first flight south of the border to meet his new teammates and settle in as the newest member of junior hockey. Maine was a quick trip across the border and north, so he arrived just one day after being drafted. He took in the sights around Portland and after a long day of sight-seeing and learning the local culture, he finally laid eyes on his spot in the Maine locker room. Unpacking his equipment, he was greeted by several players in the organization including a couple of fellow draftees. Although the departing the comfort of playing in the minors just down the road from his childhood home, Apollo couldn't be more excited for what the next few seasons bring in Maine.

First of all it’s time for a nap before heading to the arena. Arriving at arena I’m feeling a little nervous. Two cups of coffee and a monster probably don’t help and the fact I’m in a new city. Stepping into locker-room and seeing a few of my new team mates before we step onto the ice. We did a warm up and few drills. It was such a great feeling and everyone was really friendly. The GMs and the rest of the team were all so welcoming and supportive with helping me settle in to the team and city. The team had a welcoming party for all the new members of the team it was nice just to be able to talk and properly introduce ourselves to one another. Getting to know one another and finding out I’m not so far away from few of were my team mates are staying. Everyone is super relaxed and just excited about the upcoming season. I’m feeling a lot more settled and cannot wait to see what this season brings for the team.

Even after her long scouting conversation with Vancouver, River was hardly expecting to actually be drafted there with such an early pick. Regardless, her agent was already booking flights and finding temporary accomodations to stay in until she could find an apartment, and by the next day she had shipped all of her belongings and arrived in Vancouver International. It helped that the Whalers had such a big draft class and she was able to immediately meet fellow rookies that same day like Matthew Leroux and Joe Primeau to form a group chat and connect with some of the team veterans. After spending a day exploring the city with her girlfriend, River finally visited the team facilities and got into contact with her new teammates and GMs. They all spent hours on icebreakers and discussions, getting to know everyone in the new class, and then took them out to a dinner and night on the town – including an impromptu trip to the Richmond IKEA so everyone on the team could buy a Blåhaj.

Cece is pretty lucky, she thinks, because her cousin Florian is not only a former player for Yukon, he’s also still involved with some team stuff, and was hugely influential in the scouting talks she had with the team. He’s also letting her live in his house, which he still has in Whitehorse from playing for the Malamutes, so he is definitely there the day she moves in. Her dads also accompany her to get settled, but GM Patrice Nadeau, whose ear Florian was in about Cece and her brothers leading up to the draft, is one of the first people to greet her and help her get set up with everything she needs in her new hometown. The locker room is very welcoming, and she feels at home right away, ready to get to work, really focus in, and start blocking all of the shots that anybody slings their way. She isn’t the only rookie, and right away she tries to strike up a friendship with their other fresh face, their rookie goalie, who she swears she will try to “eat all the pucks” for.

Considering Optimus Autonomous is a robot, they do not care what city they are in. Sure, they have knowledge about every city and perhaps they even have a preference based upon some statistical analysis, but for the most part, they will adapt just the same no matter what city they’re in. That said, Optimus is eager to play hockey for the Ottawa Highlanders!
Optimus’s arrival in Ottawa was a momentous occasion both as the Highlanders first round pick and a seemingly legitimate autonomous robot playing in the SMJHL. They, along with their “owner” turned agent Robert LeBlanc, were greeted by GMs Frenchie and Ruggsy upon their arrival and ushered to the Canadian Tire Center to check out the arena and facilities. Of course, everyone is keen to meet Optimus to see what it’s like to interact with a robot that has chosen to play hockey. Optimus’s first impression of the locker room was that it was perfectly adequate. They had surprisingly little to say as they took everything in. They understand the significance of their presence on the team and in the league as well as the reservations some might have. Optimus just wants to improve his knowledge of the game and skills on the ice then let their play do the talking. Acquaintances can be made at a later time. [221 words]

Sevrin Quinn was born in Buffalo, NY and grew up in the town of Tonawanda being the only child of a single mother. Ever since he could remember he was watching games on TV, and the first chance he could he started playing hockey. It didn't matter if it was organized, or pickup games at the rink he just loved to play.
When he finally got up to a highschool level Sevrin didn't play for the first two years as he couldn't buy his own gear and his mother living paycheck to paycheck he had to set his love for hockey aside and get a part time job to help out. Finally he was able to purchase the gear necessary for him to participate and he lit up the field immediately. His first game he had a ,%100 face off percentage and 4 assists revitalizing a team who's been losing for years and in his senior year, took them to the championship. 3 years later of pickup games and beer leagues, he signed up for the draft, and moved to Colorado where his new team awaits.

Coming from Japan to the US is a big culture shock for Wednesy, who had never really been to the US before. A life of traveling with the Shinkansen from city to city, in ultimately horrendously fast trains was what she was used to. She also appreciated the number of shrines that were available in Japan, but actually her family originally did come from the US which had now brought her back to the US to play hockey. Coming here was unique for her, but she was determined to do well and to combine the cultures in her own little way. It was a joy to get on the ice and skate around with some future teammates and being able to show some talent off as a center on the hockey team. Playing with men didn't intimidate her. the SHL had long made this popular and common and for her it was just another day in the office.

Malte Högberg had always dreamed of playing hockey in North America, but when the opportunity finally came, it was a place he'd never expected... Newfoundland. The rugged island, although not too dissimilar to his native Sweden, was far from home and presented him with a very different culture and way of life than he was used to but he was ready and eager for the challenge.
The first day was a whirlwind. Malte arrived late in the evening, his luggage still lost somewhere between Europe and North America (must have been those damned Greenlanders. Never trust a Dane!). On the ice, the pace was faster than Malte had been used to in Sweden. The game here was rougher, more physical, with players constantly pressing you. The smaller rink would take some getting used to but if I could make the transition he felt like he could really thrive here. After a post-practice steak and beer dinner with his new teammates he felt confident he would be able to give them his very best in the coming season and to say he was looking forward to it would be an understatement. |
