The SMJHL season is about to start, after we all got a taste of juniors hockey with preseason. In the 7-game span of preseason, teams got a pretty good look into what to expect, and also who the key contributors are likely to be. How is your team looking ahead of this season, and who are gonna be the main pieces of your squads?

Written Option: Talk about how your team is looking ahead of the coming season. Include at least 3 players who will be key to the success of the team, plus an explanation why they will be crucial. Must include 150 words.

Graphic Option: Create a magazine cover style graphic with a headline for the team, plus a render for a key player on your team's squad. Make sure to identify which player the render is supposed to be in the graphic.

You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all the requirements for any of the options. (You only need to do one of the options to get the credit and wont get additional credit even if you do more than one). Note that the wordcounter on the site can be inaccurate, if you want to ensure you reach the required wordcount you can use for example https://wordcounter.net/.

All responses are due on Sunday, December 22nd at 11:59 PST. NOTE: IF YOU SUBMIT/EDIT AFTER THE DEADLINE YOU WILL RECEIVE REDUCED/NO TPE.

Battleborn An analysis of the Nevada Battleborn from a noob on the team:  Battleborn

After the seven games, the Rams ended up with a very good 5-1-1 record. While it isn't a guarantee to success during the season, it shows there is some potential with the line-up and with some young players hoping to grow, and our 425 capped players still having one season of eligibility left for junior after this year, we can be a threat for not just this season, but next as well. So, who needs to perform well?

1. Badger Hennessy: One of our capped players, our Honeybadger lead the team in points with a phenomenal 2 point per a game pace, 14 points in 7 games. Looking at the build there's a balance between both shooting and playmaking, something I may need to look at in the event I recreate as a forward. This versatility on offense can help us by placing him with multiple different players, filling whatever role is needed. Our badger can be a swiss-army knife for offense and if he can pop off like he did in pre-season, then we'll be in a good spot.

2. Kiwi Söderberg-Snooks: Let's switch to D, shall we? Specifically, a lock-down D who may not get the sexy stats, but in the sim is 100% needed. Kiwi lead the team in blocked shots with 15, and also had 15 bone crushing hits. On the back end, we need a defenseman (Or woman) who can pick up the load because right now, we have two goaltenders who have a cap of 350. In comparison to a team like Newfoundland who is expected to do well, they have a goaltender who is at the 425 cap. Depending on the team, our goaltending will be behind in terms of raw ratings. If Kiwi can take some pressure off of our net, that could be a net benefit.

3. Goaltending: This is two lumped into one which is cheating a bit, but with our team having two goaltenders relatively close in TPE, with Jack in the 260's and myself in the lower 200's (Though I checked, and not all my TPE is updated in game, so once updated, I'll see some improvement) we will likely both see relatively similar time in net, with Jack getting a slight nod. Jack was phenomenal in the pre-season. With an in game rating in the 80's, and a 0.950 save percentage, he was a rock during his three starts. In comparison, Claude did well for being only 200 TPE, having a 3-1 record, but at a game rating in the 60's and a save percentage I hope to get up, I know I need 'The Dam' to improve. I think if Jack can over-perform like he did in the pre-season and I can have some marginal improvement throughout my rookie campaign, we'll be a tandem who can get the job done.

If we're being honest with ourselves the Whalers haven't had much to hope for in recent years and with the call ups this past off season, we are probably looking at more of the same. Entering this season, there is a different air in the locker room. Coming out of one of the worst seasons in SMJHL history, the current Whaler roster is hungry to show they aren't just going to be the laughing stock of the league. Looking to rely on solid fundamentals and defense, Let's take a look at some key players that will help the Whalers take that next step.

Aaron Noxus - Last seasons leading goal scorer for Vancouver is back in his sophomore year and looking to keep his team scoring title. Last season he fell 9 short of making the top 10 goal scorers in the league so he'll need to take a big step forward if he hopes to be the light in the Whalers locker room and turn this into a competitive team.

Trent Mackenzie - Let's talk about an unshakeable will. Let's talk about the heart, soul and backbone of the team. Leading the league in saves, and games played, she still managed to not be in the top 10 of goals against average. Facing more shots than any other goalie in the league you can definitely say there is no where to go but up for this seemingly untiring netminder. If the team can step up and provide her the proper support on the ice, we may be looking at the next greatest to ever do it.

Hans Gronlund - Rounding out the trio of last seasons rookies, Hans didn't make any of the top 10 lists for statistics last season but he is fully aware that it is not his job. As a pure defensive defensemen, he will be Trent's number one support and do everything he can to relieve as much pressure in the defensive end possible. To take the step forward this year he will need to work on one of the leagues worse +/- numbers of last season. Not entirely his fault as it was a big transition year for Vancouver but his focus and skill have only improved and we should see that drop drastically if Vancouver's plans pull through.

With preseason behind us, it's time to take an early look at how we're doing and to look at what we need going forward. With a 2-5 record out of the seven games played, we've certainly got a lot to consider.

First to consider is scoring. We had some good effort from some forwards, but none found the back of the net more than Nick Sansone, who leads our team in goals scored at 4. With two exceptions, our losses were games with either no, or just 1, goal, so a player with the chance to go on a hot streak can't be ignored. I'd be remiss to not mention Jackass Pants, however, who's overall points total comes out to a whopping 9, tallying 6 assists and 3 goals, and who has our current highest shots on goal count. The value of a player who's able to set up chances for those big A's can't be overstated. If Pants is able to maintain that effort going forward, and if Sansone keeps up his high-scoring trend, we'll hopefully be able to push those shots on goal and actual goals up.

Defense deserves a look as well. For me, finding a d-man's performance through numbers is a little harder - it's easy to track shots on goal, but not as simple to keep up with screening or good positioning. However, I would like to shout out Kris Sabev. High ATOI, team leader in blocks, a good number of hits, and a rare high +/- (and low GA/60!), Sabev is doing a great job providing that much-needed defense. Keeping the puck off the other team's sticks and keeping them from valuable scoring chances will go a long way to helping us keep the other team's score down - and give us the chance to improve our own.

While the preseason wasn't everything we'd hoped for, the Grizzlies have a clear opportunity to look into some weak spots and make some improvements. By following some key players’ examples for offence and defence, I'm sure we'll at least make ourselves a moderately competitive team.

Let's all have a good, fun season!

The San Diego Tidal head into Season 80 with a positive outlook and a strong roster to back it up. The team took an undefeated record through the preseason and hope to continue the momentum into the regular season when they open their season on the road in Colorado.

Veteran forwards Felix Carlsson and Josie Cass both tallied fifteen points through seven preseason games (ironically both had eight goals and seven assists) and carried the seemingly explosive Tidal offense through a strong showing and will likely continue to dominate opposing netminders going into a tough regular season.

Speaking of goaltending, the Tidal bring in a pair of rookie goaltenders who look to share the load this season, and both have performed admirably thus far. Cauliflower Pizza and Baldur-Ulysse Söderberg-Tremblay will like split the majority of the regular season starts but both seem to have high hopes and higher comradery with one another and plan to take the Tidal on a fantastic run this season.

With the SMJHL looking tough this season, San Diego looks poised to jump on the competition and show that their preseason success is more than just a fluke.

The Kelowna Knights are looking a little like the rookie team that they are. We have a bunch of fresh untried player who were able to get their skates on for the introductions of the season. Overall, our roster is actually more green than it was last year and some of our veteran players last year got shipped to other teams to try and make cup runs. So this leaves Kelowna in an interesting position where we are in a solid rebuild for the next 3 seasons as we try to increase activity and train hard. That being said, we have a few key players for this season that will make us not the bottom of the barrel. As a single unit, we have our two elite goaltenders who have not yet been called up but are at the peak of their game. They alone could steal some major victories for us. Juanne Hawky is our top line center who will be setting our pace for each game. Finally we have myself, Khalfani, who will center the third line and hopefully give us that depth edge we need in tough games.

Well, half of the preseason was completed without half of the team even in the lineup over here in Yukon, and some random guy who happened to have the same last name as someone who was actually supposed to be on the team, so I don't know if that was a great look at what's likely to happen in the regular season. But I think an obvious choice is going to be the success of our top unit - the Anderson - Fantobens - Lumbermouth top offensive line, alongside the Biggins/Knievel defensive pairing. Océane is going to do her best to contribute as much as she can, but being the lone rookie skater, she is focused on contributing almost exclusively on defense, shutting down other teams' lines when they happen to match up against her and her defensive partner James Hogan. The second forward line of McLazy - Vajihollahi - Steelhawk is going to be important as well, because they'll be getting some key matchups as other teams probably try to do line matching stuff.

I think Krakens are looking amazing for the upcoming season, we went 7-0 in the pre-season. I believe 3 key players for season 80 will be Kim Chaewon, Wallbilly Koala, and Carter Rumsy.

Kim was undeniably the best rookie of the s80 draft class. He had an astounding 31 goals and 40 assists last season (in his FIRST season) with an average TOI of nearly 20 minutes. furthermore, with even more applied TPE to various other stats, I undoubtedly believe Kim will be a key player. This can be illustrated by the fact that in 7 games played, Kim had 11 points! 6 of which were goals, that's nearly a goal-per-game pace for Kim, despite being a playmaker.

Wallbilly Koala is an essential piece of the Krakens roster. He had a whopping 90 points last season, 64 of those points coming from assists. He is a key playmaker for our roster and enables our forwards and defensemen to get goals.

Lastly, I believe Carter Rumsy will be a major contributor to our success. He is an amazing defenseman who is also great at offense, getting 16 points in the preseason.

It is going to be an interesting season for the Tidal, with a great mix of veterans and rookies from a deep class in the last SMJHL all coming together to form a group that could cause surprises in the league this season.

Leading the defensive corps will be the veteran pairing of Jeremy Snugglemuffin III and Roisin Armagh. The pair still has two seasons in front of them and will take a huge step forward this season leading the defensive brigade for the Tidal. They'll be supported by last-season veteran Anthony Simmons III, as well as Ivanoff returning for a second season. No true rookies on defense, but some of the newcomers might end up playing out of position like we saw in preseason.

The rest of the rookie skaters will be playing depth roles behind last-season veteran Felix Carlsson, and some other leaders like Josie Cass and Brodir Aleifrsson. 3rd overall Dee Centerman IV, Jr. will also be one to keep an eye on as far as forwards go.

Two rookie goalies in net, that's going to be the big question mark, but both youngsters have also been promising so far.

The San Diego Tidal seem to be a semi-competitive team heading into this season. After a perfect 7-0 pre season we are confident in our play. Our two goaltenders will have a massive role in our season as both will be fighting for the main starting position while also going through heavy development. We will definitely need to rely on our senior players to pull some weight as San Diego just recently drafted a future core to the team which we will be building around. Development is the name of the game for San Diego, and the main goal this season will be to finish better than our previous disappointments seasons in recent past. We have a lot of forwards and will depend on a few to play Defense this season, so hopefully they can work on their game to secure our blue line while the plethora of forwards we own can start finding the back of the net. Brett McMann is thrilled to play on the third line at center and is finding his touch on the faceoff dot, being a top 3 face off man in the pre-season while already starting this regular season with a 66% faceoff stat.

The Kelowna Knights are looking to start moving in a positive direction this season, and hope to move out of a rebuild phase and towards being competitors in the near future

The first key contributor is going to be Jauhnne Hawky, as a top line center he is going to have to contribute game in and game out for us to insure wins. Jauhnne is looking like a very good TWF and will be needed for a majority of special teams operations as well as being integral to how consistent our team is performing, if he has a bad night, thats a night the team will be fighting through adversity

Secondly is Harry Fairchild, being the most sound Defensive Defenseman is going to be truly important for our operations up front, having a rock like harry to cover back while others look to get the team ahead is essential to any success of any hockey organization, as well as trailblazing the path i hope to follow in truly strong DFD

Lastly, the brick wall in net, Gino Fortezza, having a consistent goalie is one thing, but an elite goalie that can find saves where others cannot can get your team much further than a team with inconsistent or outright bad goaltending, he will be crucial to and progress we want to make this season

After an eye-opening preseason, three players have emerged as crucial pieces for our team's success. Goaltender Gino Fortezza has shown exceptional poise between the pipes, with his quick lateral movement and rebound control suggesting he'll be the backbone of our defensive efforts. His ability to stay calm under pressure will be vital in close games and high-stakes situations throughout the season.
Forward Jauhnne Hawky brings dynamic offensive creativity, consistently creating scoring chances through both individual effort and smart playmaking. His two-way play and hockey sense make him a reliable presence in all situations, particularly when the game is on the line.
On defense, Harry Fairchild anchors our blueline with his exceptional positioning and decision-making. His ability to make smart outlet passes and quarterback the power play while maintaining solid defensive coverage makes him indispensable to our success.
Together, these three players form a strong core that should help drive our team forward this season. Their chemistry and leadership will be essential for playoff contention.

I feel like the 3 rookies that will make the biggest difference are 3 offensive players as Kelowna drafted nearly all offence

David corrigan - I know putting myself is a little big headed but I’m coming in to fill the RW and I have been producing with 11 points in 8 games and continuously getting better throughout the season .

Khalfani- playing at centre on the same line as me we have been playing great on the 3rd line with both of us having the highest points in the team with Kelowna not having a great start Khalfani might climb up the depth chart

Jordan Lafrenière - our assistant captain is the last player I will be writing about he has been a leader on and off the ice and has been playing well even though it not showed up on the stat sheet and fully believe that will change
