S80 PT #2: The Game Before Christmas Due: Sunday, December 29th @ 11:59 PM PST
#61

After a shift of sustained pressure deep in overtime, the Citadelles force a faceoff in the Armada zone. A wholesale change, the Armada line up for the face-off: Abbe Wass and Barcus Juneau set up on D; Nicky Corrigan and Mac Z on the wings; cold-blooded rookie Reg Kirkby settles in to take the draw.

Fighting the player and ignoring the puck, Kirkby kicks the puck back to Wass.  Wass takes a quick scoot behind the net and sees his team breaking for the neutral zone. With the forwards covered competently by the Citadelles, Wass sees Juneau accelerating just behind the play and makes a clean cross-ice pass.

Juneau gets on his horse. Zooming up the ice, Juneau blows past the forwards of both teams and penetrates deep into the Quebec zone. Weaving around the opposing D, Juneau takes the outside route and parks behind the net. Seeing Mac Z coast into the high slot, Juneau makes a perfect setup pass. Mac Z rips a laser ...  just over the crossbar where Juneau is standing admiring his pass. The puck caroms off Juneau's helmet back towards goalie Ela Solberg, whose backward motion bounces the puck straight into the net. The weirdest overtime game-winner you'll ever see, it's a true Xmas miracle.

Written Option 1:: T’was the game before Christmas and all through the league, your rivals are pushing you into OT. You see on the scoreboard, that tie you abhor - in spite of your efforts, it’s locked, 4 to 4. Are you naughty and cruel, or angelic and kind, does your player save the day, or is your team left behind? Share now with us all this story, this dream, when Christmas glory was lost, or claimed for your team.

Chicago had a rough start to the season before finally starting to win some games so going into Christmas they thought they were starting to finally turn in the right direction but then another losing slide came as if time itself turned back and they lost more then expected. So the when the final game before the break came around they knew this one was a must win for the mental of the team going into the next part of the season. It started off bad slipping into a 3-1 to them in the 1st before catching up a bit 4-3 in the second. It was a mid 3rd heroics by Sad Ketchup to tie it up and we hold on to overtime. It is there that we battle back and forth. Alexandros pushed and pushed and pushed but it didn’t seem to matter what he did he could not get the puck to go in the net or find the breakout pass to his team to get the win. As he huffed and puffed and got off the ice after a long shift hope appeared. Dave Heinrich on a stretch pass from Ho Lee-Smokes managed to deke around the defense and put it in the back of the net. The collective sigh of relief on the Chicago bench was palpable. Alexandros was bitter he couldn’t make the impact to close this one out but he is happy to see his team succeed.

Option 2: The team Christmas party is a great opportunity to get to know each other better and a good way to do that is to meet each other’s family. Since the players already spent a lot of time with each other with all the traveling, they do during the season to go play games away from home, the team Christmas party is the perfect opportunity to add more people to the mix. It is why Nor told everyone that their significant other, their children and their parents were all invited to the team Christmas party if they could make it. For the party, a section would be set for kids to play with, and a Christmas buffet would be served around dinner time, but other than that, nothing specific was planned, since the main goal is to give people a lot of free time so they can get to know the people at the party better by simply speaking to one another.

Written Option 2: Your player is put in charge of helping plan the team Christmas party! What sort of games do they plan? What food and drink does your player decide to bring for the party? How does the party go with their teammates? Does anyone do anything wild at the party? If so, who? What happened to lead up to that event?

I absolutely love a good Christmas party, or a good party in general. I also am a HUGE fan of games, so this party would be full of them. Before I get to the games though, let’s get to the most important part of any party…the food and drinks. My drink of choice is always Jack and Coke, so those would be flowing. I also love a good craft beer, so there would be lots of good Hazy IPAs around. As far as food goes, with a big party I have always found it is hard to find people who don’t like Italian food. There would be pizza, pasta, chicken parm, and so much more. Ok, now on to the games…there would be cornhole, beer pong and all the standard yard games. We could move them indoors if the weather requires it. Another fun game is Christmas Jeopardy, something that I played at a Christmas party today and was a huge hit. We could also do card games like poker and black jack, might not be Christmasy, but it is always a good time!

Written Option 1 :

The last game the Seattle Argonauts played before the Christmas break was an away game against the Calgary Dragons. The Argos had been on a roll winning eight of their last nine games and were looking to take down their divisional foes. The Argos had the lead with just about a minute to play, and the coach tapped AT-AT on the shoulder. "Get out there and shut em down!" So AT-AT went out and when he saw the other team pulled the goalie, he was very excited to maybe have a chance to score. But instead, he made a big blunder and watched his attempt bounce off a Calgary player and ricochet right onto someone's stick in front and Calgary scored to tie the game. He felt super bad and expected to be benched, but then the overtime was taking it's toll on the star players and once again with a minute to go, AT-AT found himself back on the ice. All he had to do was shut the other guys down for one more minute. But instead he decided he was going to be naughty, and took a penalty. Giving the Dragons a power play opportunity in the last minute of extra time. Luckily his team was able to bail him out, and the Argos went on to win in a shootout. But AT-AT did not have a lot to be joyous about - he was a minus two on the day and his penalty in overtime almost cost the team the game. He probably shouldn't be surprised to get a lump of coal in his Xmas stocking!
