#1

At this point in the season, you should be starting to get into the groove with your teammates. But it's not all about the chemistry when you're on the ice - it's the tunes you listen to in the locker room before you get out there that really help you bond.

Written Option: List 5 songs that are on your team's pre-game playlist, and tell us why they're played (150 word min.)

Graphic Option: Design the album cover for a CD-version of your team's pre-game playlist. Has to include at least the team name and logo.

You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all the requirements for any of the options. (You only need to do one of the options to get the credit and wont get additional credit even if you do more than one). My teams five song playlist would likely include alot of songs from a playlist i have saved on spotify. this playlist is titled "SONGS THAT GET WHITE PEOPLE TURNT" and whilst some of the songs are slow and melodic, other do in fact get me, as a white person, turnt. This playlist has such Bangers as

Come on Eileen, absolute classic, gets me wantin to give eileen EVERYTHIIIIIIIIIIIING

Mr. Brightside, seeing as this song will play at every family gathering/church event i attend, i would say this is a certified gets white people turnt song, ask anyone that grew up in suburbia, they know this banger

Dont Stop me Now, what a better way to get amped for a gameday than to have this absolute straight hot fire, spitting over the aux, you aint gonna stop me, no one is, because im having such a good time, some might say having a ball

All Star, who doesnt love shrek, and imagining being a first team all pro

and last, but certainly not least, Pumped up Kicks, this song just reminds me of home Smile

The Pretender by Foo Fighters
The song’s driving rhythm and defiant lyrics (“What if I say I'm not like the others?”) inspire resilience and individuality. For a team facing adversity, it reinforces the message of standing strong and pushing back against doubt and challenges.

We Will Rock You by Queen
The iconic stomp-stomp-clap rhythm builds unity and anticipation. This anthem is perfect for rallying the team, as it not only pumps them up but also embodies the spirit of triumph over obstacles.

Stronger by Kanye West
With its infectious beat and message (“That that don't kill me can only make me stronger”), the song directly speaks to perseverance. It's a reminder for the players to push through struggles and emerge better and more determined.

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor
Why It Fits: A classic underdog anthem, the lyrics capture the relentless pursuit of victory despite challenges. The upbeat tempo and powerful guitar riffs make it a great choice to pump up a team looking to reclaim their fighting spirit.

Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Why It Fits: This high-energy track exudes confidence and determination, with lyrics like “This is the moment, tonight is the night.” It's a call to seize the opportunity and rise above adversity, perfect for motivating a team to give their all.

Might as well provide links as well. Picking some songs with a mix of genres and vibes. Fitting of the rollercoaster of emotions in a hockey game and season.

Let's Ram It : NFL Rams Song Nevada Battleborn Remix

The goal song of the Nevada Battleborn, this is a song is a meme and is a vibe. So I imagine in our universe we have our own version of this cheesy song with our own players which can lighten the mood if things get tense.

Fight For Your Life : Vo Williams

Now for a swap, this is a song which is for sure a work-out song, with the message of "fighting for your life" and a great beat can be good to help the team lock in for a big game.

Wake Me Up : Avicii

For a song with a bit more of a relaxing and nostalgic vibe, this song can be nice to chit chat with teammates, share some memories of the game.

Holiday : Green Day

I love my pop punk and even if you dislike the IRL team who used this as their goal song for a period of time, this is just a great song where the team can headbang to it.

Kings Never Die : Eminem Ft. Gwen Stefani

The one rapper nobody is able to out diss, I figured I'd include him in the playlist and I picked this song which does fill a similar role to "Fight for your life" but the lyrics of this song take a bit more of a focus. I also think, ironically, this song fits some of the themes I have going in the media piece I'm working on. Dealing with pressure, adversity, the highs which make you feel like a King and the lows. Keep it going, team. For Kings (And Queens) never die.

Playlists are very important for getting you in the right mood to do a lot of things, whether it's playing hockey or working out or trying desperately to get your child to go to sleep at night (although Cheddar doesn't really have to worry about that last one yet, being as she's only 16, has no interest in having a child at the moment, and also doesn't have any siblings who are babies anymore). She does try to help the team get pumped for games though, and here are some of the songs that she puts on the playlist:

Riot, by the Scarlet Opera - it just has good energy, it's upbeat, it's got "yeah we're gonna go get some shit done!" vibes, so it's always a fun one to have on the list.

Blood in the Wine by Aurora - again, good vibes, and it's got some girl power energy too, which Cheddar is always big on. It's not always easy being the only woman on the ice sometimes.

RATATATA by BABYMETAL and Electric Callboy - Cheddar's cousin Willow introduced her to this song and now she has to have it on every pump up playlist she makes.

Nightmare by Halsey (okay maybe this one is just on Cheddar's personal playlist when she feels angry at men)

She Wolf by Shakira (there aren't really any good songs about Malamutes, so we go for songs about wolves instead)

Metalingus - Alter Bridge

There are quite a few wrestling fans in the Whalers locker room and nothing gets the heart pumping like former Canadian superstar Edge's theme song.

Gotta Catch 'Em All - Pokemon Opening Song

Classic, Should need no other explanation but the inspiration and nostalgia felt when listening to this song is unmatched.

I'm Still Standing - Elton John

We lose a lot here in Vancouver. This is a good song to remind us the strength we have in continuing to get up and give it our all game in and game out.

Don't Stop me Now - Queen

Fast paced hype song. We listen to this one to remember that when we're having a good time we can't be stopped. Almost literally in the lyrics.

The Time Is Now - John Cena

Again, wrestling fans in the locker room. The other reason this is the final song on the playlist is, those of us on the Whalers roster believe we are on the cusp of being a top competitive team in the league and its only a matter of time before "your time is up, my is now".

Our locker room's pre-game playlist is quite possibly the most chaotic mix in the SMJHL, but that's exactly what makes our team special. We kick things off with "APT" by ROSE and Bruno Mars - its smooth R&B groove helps everyone find their rhythm while we're lacing up our skates.
Then comes the "Camelot Song" from Monty Python, which started as a joke but became our unofficial anthem. Nothing builds team spirit like grown men in hockey gear dramatically singing about Camelot! "Don't Touch My Clogs" by OCT follows, and its bizarre energy perfectly matches our team's personality.
You might question why "Fruit Salad" by The Wiggles made our playlist, but our captain swears it's good luck - we haven't lost a game when it's played. Plus, watching our tough-as-nails defensemen earnestly singing "Yummy yummy" is priceless.
We wrap up with Nickelback's "Photograph" - yes, we're that team. Every single player screams "LOOK AT THIS PHOTOGRAPH" at the top of their lungs. Our coach threatens to ban it weekly, but even he joins in now. These songs might make other teams question our sanity, but they've created some of our best pre-game memories.

Songs:
APT -  ROSE, Bruno Mars
Camelot Song - Monty Python
Dont Touch my Clogs - OCT
Fruit Salad - The Wiggles
Photograph - Nickleback

Growing up playing hockey my team would always listen to AC/DC to get us fired up before games. Just imagine a bunch of 10 year olds sitting in the locker room with their heads tilted down and bumping to some classic rock. With that being said I definitely need to start my list with 1. Thunderstruck and 2. Back In Black.

Eminem has always been a classic for getting me game ready as well, not sure if this is a favourite for pre game but I’ve always loved listening to 3. Till I Collapse before playing games. The beat in the intro of the song just makes me feel the blood boiling and ready for war.

SEVEN NATION ARMY BABY. Number 4 is a classic and gotta be on my list, 4. Seven Nation Army. No explanation needed.

Last but not least is a bit of a newer one, past couple of years I’ve really loved Kodak Black. I’m not a huge rap guy but this song gets me going. 5. Super Gremlin. Honourable mention 6. Transportin’. Kodak is definitely a different vibe from the 4 above but he’s still amazing.

To be motivated on the ice you have to be motivated off the ice with songs like NF's Motto. This song brings an incredible aural vibe that allows you to focus on your goals. In terms of off-ice motivation, I'd say put Eye of the Tiger at the top level. This song is incredibly motivating when it comes to working out. For complete rest and a gentle melody to cover the long waits in traffic. I'd say the Cowboys Fringants song: Sur mon épaule. This song navigates through feelings and allows you to ask yourself many questions. After that, it's a good idea to put on Hey Mama by Black Eyes Peas to entertain your time in training. This song helps you burn off energy, so you're always in constant motion during those heavy moments when you're feeling tired. To better reflect on life, I'd say put on the following song by Alexandre Poulin: L'écrivain. This song helps you navigate through life's motivating thoughts and allows you to believe in your talent. If you have a positive mindset, you'll reach a position in the locker room and the % of victory will be very good. And to end on a good vibe in all the essentials, you absolutely must put on Empire's The Final Countdown. After that, you'll see that your pre-games will be much more complete.

Alright, five songs.

Song #1 - Blur Song 2. I remember back in the day, playing ball hockey in the garage and this was a regular one for us. Always gets me pumped up and we can all go WOOO WHHOOO.

Song 2- Tom Chocran Big League. Great Canadian tune, about hockey, and helps us keep our goals of the big leagues in mind

Song 3- Motley Crue Kickstart My heart. Just a classic pump up tune.

Song 4- Elton John Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting. Great tune, this or the nickleback version. Probably this one. Reminds me of hockey night in Canada

Song 5- Anything by The Tragically Hip. Just the definition of Canada right there. When I think Canada, I think this band and I think hockey. So I think any locker room, simulated or not, needs some of Canada’s pride and joy in the room.

First off, we're going to go with the song In Between by Beartooth. It's about being at the bottom and losing control, which is how we play, chaos and strengths on the ice (even if the song is a bit of a downer)

Second we're going to go with Cold by Crossfade. The song really doesn't have much to go with hockey, except that ice is cold, but simply put, the song just kicks ass.

Third is Beg by Seether. This is a dark, hard song that really puts into place what our opponents are going to be doing, begging us to stop dominating them all night!

Fourth is Chains (The Tower) by Fame on Fire. Another nice hard rock song with a great chorus. It definitely gets you into that high octane mood that makes you wanna get your ass moving and kicks some ass.

Finally, Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit. Look, we all know Limp Bizkit is more of a joke these days, but you can't deny that Break Stuff is a song that you can just go absolutely apeshit working out or whatever with and really gets you into the perfect game time mindset, hands down.
