SMJHL rookie and third overall pick Dee Centerman IV, Jr is making waves in his own zone for the San Diego Tidal. Not known as a particularly strong offensive player (his high school coach once said he would "score more points playing soccer in his gear than hockey"), Centerman IV, Jr has refined his back checking game and become a menace for opposing veterans.
Two thirds of the way through the season, Centerman IV, Jr leads all forwards in shots blocked, putting his body on the line nearly 1.5 times per game. Among rookies, DCIVJR leads in takeaways and ranks third in penalty kill time on ice. Possession and predictive metrics show this is no fluke--he ranks in the best 15% of players in GA/60 and best 30% in SA/60, suppressing quality shot opportunities and protecting his goalie tandem from strong opposition. Notably, his relative Fenwick percentage is a full 2% higher than his relative Corsi--indicating when he's on the ice, a significantly larger proportion of shots are blocked by himself and his linemates. Centerman IV, Jr was recently seen in the gym doing cardio. When approached for comments, he replied, "I'm doing cardio." ![]() Registered Member |
