Philippe-Eko Eel is excited that his atlanta inferno have been selected as the hosts of the s80 winter classic, but his excitement will quickly fade once the game starts. his excitement is due to his mistaken, as it will turn out to be, belief that the hot atlanta winter will cause the rink to become more of a pool. it was a weird selection to have Atlanta, one of the SHL's hottest cities, as the winter classic host for an outdoor game. many were skeptical, including Eel himself, that the ice would melt rather quickly. unfortunately for eel and fortunate for everyone else, the SHL invested millions of dollars (unwisely, some might say) into a complex megacooling setup to keep the rink area frigid enough to sponsor full solid ice throughout the duration of the game. Eel was excited that the ice might melt and the game would turn into underwater hockey, which would give Eel, an eel, a huge advantage over the rest of the players. Alas!

Written Option 1: Your team is about to play in the Winter Classic Game. Did your player get to play ice hockey outdoors as they were growing up or are they from area where that isn’t possible? How do you think playing on stadium will be able to replicate those feelings? Is it just pointless gimmick to sell more and more expensive tickets or is it something special for players too, specially your player? And if you had an opportunity to pick who will be your opponent and where the game should be held what would be your picks? Would you want anything else from the event?

While Gato didn't play outdoor Ice Hockey, he did play a lot of street hockey growing up on the streets in Tijuana. So while the weather conditions might no match sunny Tijuana, playing outside in the elements is not exactly foreign to my player. Playing in a giant stadium is surely different enough though that I wouldn't say it'd replicate the feelings of playing out on the streets with makeshift nets setup from boxes and what not. Now do I think the winter classic is gimicky? Absolutely not! Ice Skating didn't originate inside an arena, so getting back to the elements of an outdoor rink is where the game belongs. Honestly it's more surprising we haven't seen a team try to adopt the outdoor rink as their own at this point. Think of the home field advantage you'd get playing in an arena with a retractable roof for when the winter season comes! Picking an opponent is the easy part here, let's go with a team from a warm climate who may not be up to the elements like the Tampa Bay Barracuda.

Yuri Boyka III is a natural football (soccer) player and he would have easily made the pros if he decided to go that route. Many were calling him the next Cristiano Ronaldo, since his athletic abilities were on par or even greater. However, Boyka III decided to play hockey instead to follow his elders path. Both Boyka's before him were hockey players in the SHL, and Boyka III wanted to pursue that route. However, many did not know that Boyka III was equally talented in another winter sport. This is none other than curling. Boyka III was exceptionally well at the sport and could have easily made the pros and be known as one of the greats. He just didn't go into it as it was not a much sought out sport like hockey. Boyka has great touch and is incredibly accurate. This makes him stellar in curling and even archery. He did curling as a youngster but just did it for fun. As a child, he was beating grownups and thought the sport was just boring. That's the reason he left it and just continued with hockey.

My player is actually from ‘None, None’ originally. And in the infinite abyss sadly hockey has no quite caught on. Between being absolutely devoid of time space and gravity, it really isnt the idea climate for the sport. Sadly Narboza hasnt been seen in many fort-moons so it is unlikely they will be able to help us out in our hope to eventually bring hockey into the eternal darkness. I think that hockey player will strive in this environment. Its another challenge and doubtless the crowd will be extremely zooted and hyped so it is sure to pump up any player. This match would clearly be against the atlanta inferno due to the massively publicized drama featuring between atlanta GM Angus Cheesebreaker Mcfife eighteen and Hockey Player. This canon SHL event as we all know ended with Hockey Player being put on the cover of time magazine and Angus having to return thousands of pounds of cheese products back to the american people.

Clarence played quite a few different winter sports growing up. Before hockey he was into speed skating, parkour skating, skate-jousting, and skate MMA. His favorite was probably skate-jousting. It's like regular jousting but you're on skates instead of a horse. You still carry a lance and you just have to charge at the other player and try to knock them down. It's actually incredibly brutal and has led to quite a few fatalities. There was one event where a jousters helmet wasn't secure and his skate ended up in his eye. There was nothing that should be done. Parkour skating can be incredibly dangerous too and he has shattered both knees while performing various stunts. He tried to do a running flip off plexiglass once but his skate become lodged between two pieces of glass and he separated his hip. When sports are winterized in general there are usually more injuries, but they can be a lot of fun at the same time.

Although Violet has spent the majority of her life outside of it, she spent the early part of her life in Romania, a significantly poorer country with overall fewer opportunities to play hockey both in- and outdoors than a fair number of other European countries. Instead of having regular, scheduled opportunities to play, hockey was considered a treat and an opportunity until she immigrated to Sweden and lived in a community that saw it as more of an important part of life. She used hand-me-down equipment from her friends and siblings before reaching a level where she was afforded her own quality gear, which helped her appreciate it all the more. The Winter Classic is a tradition Violet hopes to be able to participate in a fair amount -- she finds the notion of outdoor hockey, played professionally or informally, a really interesting idea and wants to know what it would have been like to have a similar opportunity as a child.

I'll be honest, I have no idea if it's just an excuse for people to pay more for tickets in- or out-of-character. It's just a fun change-up.

Thanks @Amidships!

Since it is around Winter Classic time, we might as well share some stories about it, shouldn't we. Being from Scotland, a place that is universally known for being cold, one would think that Drew McIntyre would have plenty of opportunities for outdoor winter hockey hijinks. That however was not the case because along with being cold, Scotland is also known for being rainy... like all the time. The only time snow really hit scotland in any significant way (as in, appearing beyond the northern part of the country) was on rare circumstances and thus, winter hockey was nothing but a pipe dream for Drew.

If a league wanted to do a winter classic in Scotland, there are plenty of potential places for them to play in scotland. The biggest arena would be Murrayfield which at capacity could hold over 67,000 people. Drew doesn't know if that will ever happen but that would be amazing!

prompt 1:

While Czechia isn't exactly a winterless country, it's not very usual to have water surfaces - and therefore ice sheets - big and sturdy enough for hockey games. You might get a few days in a year where that's possible, but realistically, most of your ice hockey experience will be indoors. Therefore, a Winter Classic is kind of a new experience, especially since stadiums that big aren't a thing in the country, and so standing there with so many onlookers is something very new and very confusing. Manhattan, or New York for that matter, is north enough to see proper winters and so it's probably not the newest thing to the fans of the team, but there certainly are division matchups that would be very excited to have a snowy experience for an outdoor game (Tampa). With the way the season is currently going, Manhattan doesn't need any distractions on the fierce fight up the top of the rankings, but for the fans, it's probably a nice little personal experience to have.

Yeah the winter classic reminds me of my childhood you know? I grew up playing roller hockey outdoors in the summer and ice hockey outdoors in the winter. We would wait for the snow to come and then before the plow could come by and we would stomp on the snow to pack it in. Then it would ice over. In the morning we would smooth it with a brush and pack it down some more. Playing outside in the nhl is so cool. we get to wear beanies and silly socks to keep us “warm” but I. Reality we are sweating our butts off. The fans love it and they get free polarized sunglasses so they don’t go blind. Opponents wise I don’t have a preference except in division crosstown rival if possible. That always keeps the crowd alive. One day I would like to see an all star game played outside and also a skills completion. I think having that and multiple rinks would be a lot of fun. Back to you Sal!

The winter classic is coming to Atlanta and the inferno players are very excited to drink a hot chocloate outside on the articfical ice of what should be an exciting hockey game vs BAP. @Renomitsu Violet Stoica and @Bongo Bongo are very excited too and keep telling Nathangus "you better have a good game you scrub or we send you back down" Haha these jesters really like to mess with me and it is very funny. So the whole gimmick is to replicate how regular people (canadians) play hockey outside during the winter because its basically free to make ice there between november and march. But in Atlanta it is very expensive, it is also way too hot, and thus the event is an affront to the hockey Gods and to show them that our hubris knows no bounds. What i like the most about bongo is that he can teach me many secret moves (on the ice!!!) as his knowledge is very extended.

Growing up, Grindle loved watching the best snowboarders carve the slopes like they were born strapped to a board. Sure, hockey has always been his number-one love, his main squeeze so to squeak, but let’s not pretend he didn’t have eyes for the halfpipe. If he’d never picked up a hockey stick, he’d probably be blasting backside 540s, trying to top the X Games podium. Would he actually go pro? Yeah, he would, because his unstoppable drive would carry over easily, and he’d dominate the locals. Confidence? he’s got it in spades, and the slopes would only fuel that. Another arena to conquer, no big deal. It might not match the rush of a game-winning goal, but it’s close. In an alternative timeline, he’d be just as flashy in neon snow gear, owning the mountain like his personal rink. Because at the end of the day, he’s Grindle, and he's unstoppable—on ice or snow.

Coming from the frozen tundra that is Buffalo, Greyson Willis is no stranger to outdoor games. He spent plenty of time in his youth skating around on a frozen pond in his backyard until his parents turned off the flood lights and yelled at him to go to bed. He has always wanted to play in a Winter Classic game, because the feeling of playing in front of a packed stadium is like no other feeling a hockey player can experience. While some people think it's "just another game", Greyson wants to take in every second of it and treat it as a special moment. That doesn't mean he won't play his hardest or get distracted in the moment, though. He'll play as hard as he always does, because at the end of the day, the most important thing is getting the W. And who better to get that W against in an outdoor game than his (and his team's) biggest rival, Tiny Princess and the Colorado Raptors.
