Moderators Cozy Connoisseur Code: Written Option 2: Write an analysis about a team that has seen significant change to their performance from last season to this (for example Manhattan, Atlanta, Toronto or Los Angeles). What changed? Was it expected? How do these seasons compare to their performance even earlier? What do you expect from the next season for the team? For me the biggest change this season, would be the Atlanta Inferno. They topped the regular season as the best team overall with a record of 54-10-2 after finishing S79 with a 34-26-6. This is an increase of 36 points so to see them being this dominate after finishing 10th overall the previous season is a big surprise to see (rip my season preds btw). Perhaps this improvement could have been coming since the Inferno are currently the 4th best team ranked by average team TPE, but with teams like Philly, Baltimore, Tampa Bay and the improvement Manhattan saw this season too, it is surprising to see Atlanta do so well. For my playoff predictions, I have them being the East champions facing SFP in the cup finals (ultimately losing to SFP) but I wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta ends up winning it all. Hotdog is a FHM mastermind and he definitely cooked this season. Don't be shocked to see Atlanta be a powerhouse team again the next season. I think it's pretty lucky that Philly and Quebec City are close-ish, if we get a quick enough plane, we can get the entire Citadelle squad into the city and we would of course trounce the San Francisco Pride in the playoffs. You see, the Citadelles are the best team ever, I'm the best player ever, and if we combine those two, we're going to easily win any game, even in the SHL. In fact I might have poisoned the food on purpose to make this happen. It's weird to find a leer jet ready and willing to go, and a bunch of players all with their gear and passports and through customs checks already. I think I would win MVP of the playoffs and GM of the Year for this savvy move and would usher a new age of success and golden medals for us all, us all being only the Philly Forge x Quebec City Citadelles.

The best analysis I could think of would be between SEA and ATL who both have made giant leaps in the standings this season and since the first few I see are SEA(hehe) I will be doing mine on ATL. Atlanta has been a team looking to make a jump for a while and despite the mediocre standings finish last season actually made it to the semi finals of the playoffs last season so they had already showed signs of being good. Even still their jump to top the standings this season has been staggering and upon investigation 3 names on their team jump out to me. The obvious one is Jae-ik Barron’s out of this world MVP performance dwarfing every other player in the league for goals, 2nd place getting almost 20 less. Next is the greatly improved Violet Stoica who only put up 42 points last season, this season Violet put up twice the goals and 82 points and was a key contributor. Lastly and potentially most important the addition of veteran defender Georg N’Zola who came in and put up nearly ppg as a D and added another 172 block shots which really elevated the whole defense of the team. These 3 really reinvigorated the team amongst others to make them the contender they are showing to be now. -222 words

In the SMJHL, Kelowna Knights has improved significantly in season 80. Their record in the regular season sits at 34-31-1 which totals up to 69 pts. This record puts them in fourth place in the conference and 7th place in the league. In season 79, Kelowna had a record of 19-42-5 which totals to 43 points. They were 7th in their conference and 15th in the league. The record speaks volumes since they were basically at the bottom of the league in s79 and have climbed to the top half of the league in just one season. The Knights have increased scoring by a lot in s80. They have 264 goals for and 243 goals against. In s79 they had only 169 goals for and 278 goals against. The have mainly improved their offense this season. Their first line should deserve all the credit for their jump up in scoring this season. Last season the Knights top scorer was Jaunne Hawky with 55pts. Mel Guolla, who I convinced to join the SHL, is their top scorer with 81 pts! The Knights seem like they were rebuilding and this season has shown good results for their rebuild. Overall, they have improved in pretty much every aspect of the game. I expect their next season to be even better since the team is very young. If the gm looks to improve their defense, they could become the top dogs of the SMJHL next season.

Option 2: The Atlanta Inferno had a season where they were significantly better than the last one, which ended with them getting 110 points, which is 36 points more than the 74 points they got last season. A large part of their improvement is simply explained by the player progression. Seppanen and Barron both reached 1800 TPE this season, while Johnston now has over 1750 TPE. Barron offensive production exploded this season, going from 79 points last season to 121 points this time. Another improvement from last season is that Stun Gun offered more consistent performance between the pipes. This could also be explained by what is probably the biggest chances that happened last off-season for Atlanta which is the acquisition of Georg N'Zola, one of the best defenceman in the league, which completely change Atlanta deployment, because he was their second most use defenceman in terms of ice time. On top of that, they had three players with shooting percentage over 16, while they had none, last season, so maybe luck also played a part in the improved results the team got.

The story of the year has to be the meteoric rise of the Seattle Argonauts up the standings this season into legitimate contention for the Challenge Cup. After several seasons in the SHL basement and a full tear down rebuild, the Argos improved from 59 points to 85 points on their way to the second best record in the Western Conference to earn home ice advantage in the playoffs for the first time in nearly an SHL decade. Furthermore, they possessed one the biggest improvements in goal differential between two consecutive season going from -66 in S79 to +31 in S80. While this team was expected to turn the corner on their rebuild over the next few seasons, this ascent to contention can be considered ahead of schedule for a team that is still very young and will continue to improve on this impressive season. They are set up to become the SHL's next dynasty over the coming seasons as they will only get better and better.

Written Option 2: A team that has seen significant change to their performance from last season to this that I would like to focus on is the team I play for the Toronto North Stars. Lassie a player who is at 1,740tpe retired, the North Stars 1,720 tpe defenseman Physt was traded with quite a low return, 1,940 tpe defenseman Ace Lighting will be leaving free agency and Mac is stepping down from Toronto North Star's general manager position while the Toronto North Stars as a team, in general, was already in the bottom third of the league standing wise at the end of season eighty I would be lying to say if I was not concerned with the direction of where the team is heading next season. It makes me think that the Toronto North Stars will need a full rebuild to compete again for a Challenge Cup. I knew it was going to be a rough year with the cap penalty really impacting the team but it was a lot worse then expected and personally I am not sure how the new Toronto North Stars management will intend to improve our team for next season

With Jennifer the only one not sick, and facing down Seattle at home in the playoffs, Jen made a desperation call to the Dragons biggest rivals: The Edmonton Blizzard. Having missed the playoffs again, and being close geographically, she was hoping for a “The enemy of the enemy is my friend” situation. Lo and behold, the Blizzard answered the call. Both goalies, all 6 defenseman, and all forwards except for Simon Science. Jennifer ended up playing on the new Calgary top line with Gwendolyn Telenn at center and Olafur Atlason at left wing, bumping Alexa Johansen to the second line with Surkhi-Zeev and Cajabi. Seattle is a good team, but Edmonton has had success against them, and now with Jennifer on the wing she was hoping they would be able to hold the lead. Mathieson gave up two goals to Fenix and Kondos, but Jennifer was able to score an empty netter after Seatlle pulled Losanov for the extra man, and Calgary held on to win 7-5 thanks to the Blizzard.

1. Levon knew he was in trouble, and it took him awhile to figure out the solution. Since this was his first playoffs where he has a chance to win, he invited his friends from Europe to come watch him play. They had had a team in Slovakia that nearly won the championship there, and while most of them never played at higher level, he was sure that they could hold the lead they had. It was a rough period, with huge defensive lapses and quick back and forth play and they barely managed to hold the lead, winning 7-6 after Levon scored on a breakaway mid-period. To commemorate this incredible win, Levon got them all custom made banners which read “Game 1 Champions” and the jerseys they used were all signed and framed. He enjoyed playing with them one more time, but he will be glad when his real team is back.

Tip Toasty utilizes connections made during his time working as a movie consultant to reach out to stars of other sports who guest starred in the post-apocalyptic hockey film. Russell Westbrook, Ichiro Suzuki, and Russell Wilson play center. Steph Curry, Max Verstappen, Napheesha Collier, Bob Burnquist, and Michael Owen play at the wing. On defense, Nikola Jokic, Warren Sapp, Lu Dort, Sergio Perez, LeBron James, and Nick Lidström put on the skates. In goal, Íker Casillas suits up.
The team all met and became friends at the filming of Blades of Steel, a high budget low quality post apocalyptic action film in which they all had small cameos. They all were part of a pre established group text which allowed Toasty to reach everyone in a short period of time, and confirm everyone within the short timeframe. Despite all the athleticism, their team does not compete well and loses by a score of 8 to 4.

Every season, there are teams that take a big leap from the season before. One of those teams this season was the Manhattan Rage. They jumped from 53 points in Season 79 all the way to 80 points in Season 80. A staggering climb up the standings for Manhattan, one that many did not see coming. Looking at the difference between 79 and 80, the biggest thing they did was clamp down defensively. They went from 302 goals against to 245. The biggest factor was their 3 top defensemen jumping their TPE count. They jumped an average of 200 more TPE per player from season 79. That is a crazy jump for 3 players, especially ones that play the same position. Even with the forwards, they gained a ton of TPE as well. The players showed a desire to get better in the off-season and the results matched the work they put in. In this league, the simplest way to get better is earn more. Manhattan is proof of that, with their players making huge jumps in TPE and turning that into a 27 point improvement. (192 words)

Petr will use his immense Czech network connections to fill the ranks of the Hamilton Steelhawks with Czech national and ex Czech professionals living abroad. Those holes which cannot be filled in time without a Czech connection will have to be filled with a legion of ex-SHLers via Petr and his Czech mentor's connections. Surely with his own networking many seasons in, and the use of the connections the Vyskoc have, and that of other Czech Hall of Famers, there must be a rag tag group of players surrounding the Hamilton area. I imagine it would help that Dionyz Vyskoc played for and had many former teammates play for Toronto, granted many of those players may be 50 or 60 though but what is age but a number. Surely, with enough star power of years gone by, a three goal lead can be held onto for half a period, right?
