The Finals are finally here! After a grueling five and a half weeks, we are down to the final two teams in Season 80.
Round 3 Recap #1 Quebec City Citadelles vs #4 Anchorage Armada Prediction: Quebec City 4-1 Anchorage Outcome: Game 1: 4-5 Game 2: 3-6 Game 3: 2-4 Game 4: 8-0 Game 5: 5-4 Game 6: 6-1 Game 7: 8-3 The home team advantage did not exist in this series, as each of the first four games went to the road team. This was a back and forth series. Quebec City ended the series with a decisive win. Cristoforo Roccamontepiano pulled off multiple multi-goal games, leading the team in high scoring games five and seven. Anchorage fought hard once again this year but will have to retool for next season. They lose five players over 400 TPE, and possibly face a rebuild, with a large portion of their roster being S78 players. #3 Carolina Kraken vs, #5 Maine Timber Prediction: Carolina 4-3 Maine Outcome: Carolina 4-0 Maine Game 1: 5-3 Game 2: 4-1 Game 3: 3-4 (OT) Game 4: 5-2 A clean sweep in the Conference finals against a powerhouse like Maine is no small accomplishment. I had Carolina winning in 7, and Maine taking it to the wire. I was wrong. Timber stars Valtteri Pulkkinen and Anthony Louchard were contained by the Kraken's stellar blue line. Pulkkinen finished with two goals and zero assists, while Louchard finished with just one goal across the four game series. Timber goaltender Kris struggled across all four games in the series with a SV% of .864, allowing four goals against each game. Carolina's Walbilly Koala played a big hand in the offense, putting up seven points in four games, pushing their playoff total to 21 points, including nine goals. The Kraken defense limited offensive chances for the often high scoring Timber, holding them to three or fewer goals over the four game series. Yates and and Stewart together put up 34 blocked shots in the series, sacrificing their bodies to help limit the Timber scoring chances. Kraken goaltender Honza Havran finished the series with a ..917 SV% on the series. With the help of the blue line, they faced ten fewer shots than their Timber counterpart Kris. Maine Timber finish the year with unfinished business once again. Losing three capped players to the SHL, including Valtteri Pulkkinen, who finished top three in the league in both points and goals in both Season 80 and Season 79, including 55 goals last season, good enough to take home the Roberto Martucci Trophy. Four Star Cup Predictions #1 Quebec City Citadelles vs.#3 Carolina Kraken Season Series: Prediction: 4-2 Quebec City has showed dominance and proven they can battle through the tighter series, but Carolina provides a new challenge with brick wall goaltending and defense. As with the Timber, Kraken will have to stop the Citadelles star scorers, but it is well within their wheelhouse. 515 words (Disclaimer: this set of predictions were scrawled out on mobile at the last second so the analysis is really missing. I couldn’t get it posted before games, but i haven’t seen the results yet. Anticlimactic as it may be, thanks for reading this series)
