Thinking of those we lost
#1

I have been around the SHL for some time now, I did take a long break but I have spent a fair amount of my life sitting around refreshing forums and browsing threw the indexes. I have seen new members come and go, some due to rage, others due to life requiring more of their time then they could afford to give to our little hobby. We have also had some members leave us and this world permanently and without warning. I think of them often and miss what they brought to our lives. I wonder sometimes just how many of our friends we may have lost and we don't even know it because their loved ones didn't know to contact us or possibly how to. I really hope this isn't morbid to some of you, that's really not my intent.

I was just thinking of a few lost members today and it was bugging me that I cant hear from them anymore. It Bothers me that some of the SHL's biggest personalities I never hear people talk about. Two examples that are on my mind are @Mac and @701 for example. Both of these 2 guys knew how to piss people off and in the same sentence make other cry laughing. I knew Mac better then 701 and I knew that no matter how abrasive he could be at times, he was always there to listen to anyone if they had an issue with the site, the sim or even himself. I dont know if there is a post somewhere on here listing our lost and fallen bothers and sisters but I think it would be really cool if we had some sort of memorial of sorts to remember those of us we lost.

The idea may upset some people, hell this post will probably upset some people but I know that if I was to die, suddenly or expectably, I would be honored to be part of some SHL memorial. Our lost members have been long and short time members of the site, some have contributed nothing, others have been founders. No matter what their activity levels and contribution might be, they were SHL members and as a result have helped shape our league. Some of our lost were truly loved by people from all corners of our group and it would be fitting to honor them like we do with our all stars and hall of fame players.

Maybe we could make a special badge for their profiles, or create a team heaven and have their player profiles added there. Maybe it's a stupid idea that will just upset people and therefore shouldnt even be brought up. But I know for myself I wouldnt mind browsing it every now and then so I could look back at some of my online friends who I became very close with and in one case, spoke to almost daily for years on Discord, text messages and the SHL. I know I cant be the only one who must miss their sim league friends.

I still think about Dangel often. I miss that guy immensely.

FYI - I checked on the Jason Due thing, and he's still alive and kicking.

Miss Mac often, wish he'd been able to get the help he needed. Just a tragic reminder to everybody that mental health welfare is just part of healthcare. If you'd see a doctor for a broken leg then there's no reason to not see somebody to help with your mind too.

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”

No one ever told me that detail + now I'm super sad all over again. Mac was a good guy. We'd talk about a lot, including about mental stuff here and there, and I have never forgotten how much those talks meant to me. One of the best friends I ever made online, and the league hasn't really felt the same to me without him around.

Losing people like TDZ was incredibly saddening to me and I think an in memoriam section is a fantastic idea.
