Code: 11. A 6 Star Show Forward #1: Randolph Thompson-Smythe - Quebec City Citadel For your first pick of forwards you just have to go with the player who lead the playoffs in points. Randolph finished the playoff campaign with an impressive 38 points in 23 games played. 20 goales was good for first in goal scoring, 5 ahead of the #2 and 18 assists saw him finish 4th in the leaderboards. Only scoring 5 of these points in powerplay situations Randolph was a true terror in 5v5 situations. Forward #2: Andrea Morandi - Quebec City Citadel Now the Citadel had one of the most impressive attacks in the playoffs and Morandi was no exception. With 32 points they finished 3rd overall in the points leaderboard, 22 of those points were assits which put him shared first in that category. More impressively was Morandi's 63 hits which was miles ahead of any other player, with the closest player having only 49. Morandi was playmaking machine and put down the law with his body checking. Forward #3: Zeus Storm - Anchorage Armada Storm got to play one less round, with him and the Armada being eliminated in the conference finals, but a player who scores 26 points in 16 games and still finishes in the top 10 in all goal categories is still impressive. 8th in goals, 6th in assists and 7th overall with 20 points. Besides being a scoring threat, Zeus also put his body on the line for the team leading the shots blocked category amongst forwards with 24 blocked shots. Defender #1: Kenneth Lind - Carolina Kraken For my first defender I have to go with the #1 point scoring defender of the playoffs. Not only did they score the highest amount of points with 20 points, 7 goals and 13 assists in 21 games. Lind would also record the 3rd most blocked shots with 66 and a decent 24 hits. With 18 take aways against 6 give aways, they also showed good defensive awareness. Lind enjoyed a deep run with the Kraken which helped secure his position on the rankings. Defender #2: Barcus Juneau - Anchorage Armada A player who did not make the finals, but still had a very impressive overall scoreline was Barcus Juneau. With 14 points in 16 games they were an important offensive assest in the Armada's playoff run. With 22 hits they showed great use of their frame and a 12 to 4 take to give away ratio was pretty good. It helped the Armada make it to game 7 of the conference finals meaning they were so close to making it to the finals. Goalie: Honza Havran - Carolina Kraken Now I might be slightly biased to putting my own player here, but Honza had a very stellar run in the playoffs. Benefitting for starting in all 21 games the Kraken played in the playoffs, Honza was able to finish first in wins with 15. While letting up the most goals in the playoffs with 53, he putting up a 2.57 GAA which saw him just beat out Kris' 2.58 to finish first in that category. He finished first in GSAA with 3.80 and with 551 total saves he finished with a 0.912 save percentage which was good for 2nd behind Matti Brynjarsson. [540 words - 10 TPE] Code: 18. https://simulationhockey.com/showthread....pid3625451 1. Fan Appreciation Day (431 words, +8 TPE) It is always important for a hockey team, at any and all level, to make sure that their fans are well aware of the appreciation they gather from the organisation and players. A hockey team exists first and foremost in order to sell tickets and generate revenue from these sales, as well as all the other revenue sources relying on the arena being full at every game: food and beverage sales, advertisement on the boards and all around the building that can be sold higher the more people are coming to see the game. So, the San Diego Tidal are happy to give back to the fans, to tell them how much they mean to them and ensure that they will return for many more seasons. This happens at the last game of the season, because it sends the team off to the elimination playoff games on a high, happy note. It also serves to remind the players who they are doing it for, and that will help the team give their two hundred percent in the playoffs, to make it as far as they can in the spring competition not only for themselves, for victory and for glory, but also for their fans who are passionate and keep coming for more hockey. They are bringing in the big guns to have the biggest party in the history of the San Diego Tidal this season. Big event outside before the game with a lot of kiosks and vendors from all around town and suburbs, bringing in all kinds of fun activations and activities like contests and challenges in order to win sponsored prizes, the whole thing. Guest artists performing to entertain the crowd before the game, during intermissions and even after the game as the fans are leaving. Obviously, the most sought after attraction is the player's availability after the game. Not before, because you can not disturb a hockey player's routine before the game and risk throwing them off and breaking their concentration, which could end up losing you the game and throwing a sad shade on an otherwise perfect and joyful community event. After the game, the players are available to talk and sign autographs for all their fans. There is little more a team can do to show appreciation to their fans than allowing them direct contact with the players that sweat and bleed for them. Add to that a custom jersey that gets auctioned at the end of the game and signed by all players, and you have a great event for all the family 14. R&R (226 words, + 4 TPE) The is not going to be a lot of rest for BUST this off-season, on account of swapping positions and moving up the ice a bit (but not all the way) to play defense instead of goalie. BUST has always alternated between the two during his youth and had a very hard time committing to a decision before entering the SMJHL draft last season. After one season in the SMJHL as a goalie, he misses the action of being a skater so he is switching back to defense. This is going to require a lot of training to get his footing back as a skater instead of a goalie, which he is going to spend with his father Jean-Uhtred who also has had to spend a whole summer training to swap to a defenseman once in his career, although in the older man's case it was a swap from center instead of goalie. They will still spend a lot of time training with the rest of the family and other young northern europe players that JUST and Gunnar are coaching on their respective national teams. In-between training sessions, the S-T family will also travel to a few music festival across Europe. BUST and JUST are definitely going to Rock Am Park together in Germany, the rest of the family is TBD. 16. Goals (115 words, +1 TPE because of max reached) From his younger days, BUST has always struggled a bit more than his siblings and legendary fathers in making himself a key part of a roster. He has always been important and able to contribute, but never quite at the same high level as the rest of the Söderberg-Tremblays, past or present players. Seeing a sports therapist about it since a young age, he has learnt to accept his role and keep finding ways to contribute. He will be happy supporting his team and steadying the blue line, blocking shots and hitting whatever comes nearby. Being an important part of the locker room and finding ways to contribute is all BUST is about. ![]() ![]() Buffalo Stampede Arch btw ![]() Buffalo Stampede Arch btw

1. It was the debut of the much anticipated new draft pick from the San Diego Tidal that was making headlines. During the same night it was also Fan appreciation night which meant some kind of incentive to get more fans into the arena so they could get more eyes on the product but also the highly touted goalie prospect, Cauliflower Pizza. The fans upon entry of the arena during the debut/fan appreciation night, got a free coupon for a fresh slice of Cauliflower Pizza from the concession stand. Management who thought it was a fantastic idea soon realized they had made a very terrible decision. The team had the concession stands make over 8,000 slices of Cauliflower Pizza but after the advertisement of the debut and the coupon, ticket sales plundered hard, at the end of the night 435 fans showed up and only 35 of them redeemed the coupon for the pizza. One of the slices ended up on the ice at the end of the night. No one found out if it was because of the taste of the pizza or the poor performance from the hometown squad, but we do know that the management will never advertise free slices of Cauliflower Pizza again.
+4 TPE [207 words] 14. R&R While getting eliminated from the second round of the playoffs hurt, Cauliflower Pizza was proud of the showing the team did. After pretty much securing the starting goaltending position this season Pizza took to the offseason in a better mood than some. Pizza instantly went on vacation to Italy were he would visit Rome, Venice, Milan and some other places. He posted all this on his X account and his Instagram account to show off to his teammates. Pizza then bought a new house this off-season! With looks of spending at least another 4 years in the SMJHL, with the San Diego Tidal, Pizza took to the housing market to search for a new home. When things looked bleak he came across this old fixer upper for about 1.2 million dollars. Fresh off a 5 million dollar contract there were little decisions made by pizza. He bought that house for exactly what the price was, no negotiating what so ever. The stairs needed work and the window were all smashed but that didn’t deter pizza from getting his hands on some prime property in the city on San Diego. Quickly the off-season became a renovation season. Pizza brought in a lot of his teammates for free labour to help him with things such as new windows, new roofing, new paint and some new floors. At the end of it all they smashed it out of the park and now Pizza lives in what looks like a brand new home. Something he is very proud of! Pizza with the last month of the offseason, before training camp, flew home to Japan. He spent a lot of time there unwinding with his parents and two brothers. The brothers who are 12 and 14 are named Pepperoni and Cheese, respectively. Cauliflower took them on some small inner city events such as some NJPW shows as well as some baseball. His brothers look up to him and have said on countless occasions that they hope to follow in his footsteps and one day play in the SMJHL and SHL. On the last few days of the offseason, Pizza finally got home to San Diego where his teammates got together to discuss the upcoming season and training camps. Their goals have changed a lot since last season. As last season they all knew it was one for growth. This season they will be know they are contenders, and they will not be told otherwise. It definitely isn’t a cup or bust year yet but a second round exit will not be looked at as nicely as it was last season. +8 TPE (435 words) 16. Goals For Cauliflower Pizza the only goal I have is to stay active enough to build a decent goalie, get drafted to an SHL team and give them a good opportunity to win. I’ve failed a couple of times for sure with previous past players due to myself becoming burnt out, or becoming bored. The SHL world moves fast and Cauliflower Pizza hopes to become a solid well rounded goaltender. The Hall of fame isn’t even on the mind when it comes to Pizza. He just wants to play the sport one game at a time. Also I guess to make new friends as well. For site wise, I’ve done almost everything you can think of when it comes to doing it. I got to be a player updated when it was god forsakenly long and hard to do. I got to GM two SMJHL teams, albeit life got in the way and I pretty much abandoned the SHL as a whole. I was in head office, I was SMJHL commissioner for a little while. The days of me personally having goals for having an on-site job is over. As much fun as it was being able to do those things back when I was younger, I’m just happier now just enjoying what the SHL is, and what it has become. From not having a portal, a simple STHS simulation to a full blown new sim engine and insanely beautiful portal, life is good in SHL. My goal is to stick around. +5 TPE (251 words) 18. Milestones Milestones +1 TPE ![]() Big props to OrbitingDeath for the sig ![]() Registered Member Code: 1.Fan Appreciation Day For fan appreciation day here at Van I have come up with some ideas the first being a schedule that’s like a scratch off and when the Whalers win a game the fan scratches off each time they beat revealing the team they faced in green showing a win. This would be given out on the first game of the season. Code: 61 words 1 TPE Code: 2.Looking towards the future We at Van had an fun year with our rookies, showing potential and good output that makes us excited for the future. However, there are still some areas where we can improve as a team while keeping in mind that we are still building for the future. These needs will be crucial as we get ready for the upcoming season and will have to be identified and addressed. The first and most important thing is to get a backup goaltender. At present, we have only one active goalie, and although she is at her best with max TPE, it is dangerous to rely on a single goaltender. This is because depth at this position is critical, not only for rest and injury prevention but also to help cultivate healthy competition and to make sure that we are covered throughout a long and demanding season. Having a capable backup goaltender would allow us to better handle the workload without compromising on the quality of the goalkeepers we have between the goals. We are strong on offense, but we could be so much better. We need wingers who can set up plays, move the puck, and get it into the hands of our goal scorers. We need players who could be positioned between our defense and offense, keeping the good scoring chances coming with regularity. These two-way players can be, and we need them to be, contributors to both ends of the ice. Their main job is to enable offensive plays, and they do that above all with quick, efficient transitions. We also need the services of some playmaking 'D'. The majority of them are shoot-first players with all the talent that we have in our roster. We do need some anchor-type defensemen who organize the offensive effort, control the pace of play, and move pucks to our scorers. Adding a solid playmaker to the blue line would help balance the team’s dynamics, creating more opportunities and elevating the entire offense to a new level. It’s about building a cohesive unit where each player complements the strengths of their teammates. Finally, we’d benefit from adding some two-way or playmaker wingers. While we have no shortage of offensive firepower, wings that can set up plays and effectively feed the puck to our scorers would make our team even more dangerous. These players would provide a critical link between our defensive core and offensive line, ensuring a steady flow of high-quality scoring opportunities. This would be especially true for two-way players who could add value on both ends of the ice, helping with defensive transitions while supporting the attack. Meeting these needs will make us a more well-rounded and competitive team, capable of adapting to any situation. It is not about filling up the positions; rather, it is about finding guys who can enhance team chemistry and elevate our overall game. With a backup goaltender, playmaking defensemen, and two-way or playmaker wingers, we’ll be well-positioned to take the next step as a franchise. We’re excited to see how these additions can help us build on this year’s success and make an even bigger impact in the future. Code: 523 words 10 TPE Code: 3. Code: 12. On the Radar Marshal has flown under the radar for a lot of S80, but SHL GM's are taking notice of the giant power forward. He may not have the flashiest skillset, but he already has the physical tools of a SHL veteran. Marshal tallied 47 points in his rookie season with the Battleborn. While these aren't mind boggling numbers, Marshal's ability to score while also providing a menacing presence in front of the net is what is turning heads. Right now Marshal projects as a late 1st, early 2nd round pick, but some Analysts have had him as high as the top 10. The biggest question surrounding Marshal is if he can continue with the work ethic he demonstrated his rookie year. Reports about his activity and lack of conditioning could lead to Marshal sliding in the draft. I wouldn't expect him to make it out of the 2nd round though, and if a team does manage to get him in the 2nd they'll be pleased with their pick. (171 Words) +3 Code: 14. R&R (163 words) +3 Code: 7. 1. Fan Appreciation Day
Matti goes straight to the drawing board when he's given his mission, and when he slides back into the head office a day later, it's with a slim stack of papers clutched in hand. Sketched out in blue ballpoint and clumsily colored with pencil is a rough, cartoonish drawing of what the head office can only assume is the team mascot. The head of Guest Relations silently looks down at the papers before turning her uncomprehending stare on the goalie. “It's, um, a bear, þú'st? Soft and fluffy, maybe this big?” He gestures with his hands, maybe a stretch of five or six inches apart. “With a Grizzlies jersey and a stick?” “A teddy bear?” Matti shrugs, stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Lots of families come. Lots of kids. Our mascot is a bear anyway. Why not?” There's another bear of silence as the head and her assistants share some meaningful looks, and then she turns a bright smile his way. “It's great. I'm amazed we never thought of it before. How do you feel about signing a few things?” Naively, and with an uncomprehending smile, Matti agrees. Months later, Youth Hockey Night is a roaring success, with thousands of little jersey-clad Grizzlies handed out to eager spectators. Matti, though, can only ruefully grin at the success. He's too busy trying to massage the cramp out of his hand, which he'd earned by signing the near endless line of plush bears the media team and shoved into his arms. At least the kids seemed to enjoy it. (WC 251, +5) 4. Funtimes Is there anything that can bring a team together like adrenaline and terror? Matti doesn't think so. One thing he'd always wanted to do since coming over from Iceland was to ride a roller coaster. The internet tells him that, while Montana is relatively lacking in big coasters, the US as a whole had plenty. With all the free time of the postseason, and with a bit of his leftover signing money, Matti grabs the other Grizzlies rookies and stuffs everyone on a plane to Ohio. The next several days are interesting. At points, Matti isn't sure if his teammates appreciate him more for the free trip or hate him for forcing them onto the more intimidating coasters. At the very least, everyone survives, so that has to count for something, right…? For the next few weeks at practice, he checks the lid of his water bottle before every drink to make sure it's still screwed on. Just to be safe. (WC 161, +3) ((Bonus, just for fun, because I'm thrilled this picture of my render exists)) ![]() 16. Goals Personally, I'm hoping to get a job in the league for this upcoming season. I sat back and watched for my first, which I still hold was a good decision since this is my first time in any sim league, but I do feel like I could be doing more! I don't know exactly where I'll end up, but hopefully it'll be fun and I'll be able to meaningfully help. Probably won't be going for anything like a GM position, though, that seems scary! Hahaha. As for the actual game/sim part of the league, I really want to get everything I can from Matti, see how far I can push myself with my first player. I don't know if I'll make it all the way through, but I'd love to be one of those 2k+ TPE players. And even if I don't make it all the way there, I'd still like to see how high I can go. Of course, with that, I'd love to end with some great career stats - high save percentage, game average, what have you. Maybe a few (dozen) shutouts thrown into the mix for some extra flair. If I can say I was an asset for my team, I'll be happy. (WC 207, +4) 17. Feedback As a first gen, I have to say I really enjoyed the TPE tasks. With a maximum word count of 150, I never felt like they were oppressively long or too challenging to complete in with a one-week time limit, the topics were typically pretty fun and engaging, and the weekly format meant I was always encouraged to check back in and stay active. I think my personal favorites were mPT 3 (X-Factor), PT 3 (Pre-game Playlist), and mPT 5 (Thank You). The first two were fun and funky and got me thinking about who my player is, which, as an rpg kinda girl, really hit all the right spots. The third just makes me happy, because we should always take a few minutes every now and then to be appreciative of the people around us, digitally or physically, who make life fun. Speaking of, big shoutout to the Player Development people who've put all this together! (WC 157, +3) 18. Milestones Here (+1) ![]() [pbl

The Detroit Falcons are one of the most storied teams in SMJHL history, and their superstitions are as old as the franchise itself. The Falcons’ players are known for their deeply ingrained pre-game rituals, which they believe help them prepare mentally and physically for a big match. Among the most famous traditions is the use of a "lucky charm" — a small, worn-down puck that has been in circulation for decades. This puck has been passed down through generations of Falcons players, each believing it brings good fortune when touched before hitting the ice. The puck is kept in a special (100 words) locker, away from prying eyes, and only a select few players are allowed to touch it. It is said to bring the team a certain kind of "energy," and many players believe that its presence boosts their performance on game day. Some even believe the puck is responsible for several of the team’s dramatic comebacks in crucial playoff games. Another superstition that runs deep in the Falcons’ culture is their pre-game warm-up routine. The team follows a very strict order of drills and stretches, down to the exact number of repetitions. This regimen is followed without deviation, no matter how (200 words) simple or insignificant the drills may seem. If the team deviates even slightly from their routine, it’s said that they risk throwing off the “team harmony,” which could disrupt their performance on the ice. Additionally, many Falcons players wear the same socks for every home game. These socks are never washed, and each player has their own pair. The belief is that washing the socks would "wash away the luck" that the socks have accumulated over the course of the season. This superstition has been a defining part of the Falcons' team culture for years, and it’s something that new (300) players are quickly taught when they join the squad. The Ottawa Highlanders are another team with a rich history of superstitions. Known for their disciplined style of play, the Highlanders place great emphasis on rituals that are believed to enhance focus and intensity. One of the most peculiar superstitions involves the team’s “victory laces” — a special set of skate laces that are only worn during critical games or playoff series. These laces, which are said to have been passed down from one championship-winning team to another, are thought to carry the energy of past victories. When a player wears them,(400 words) they are expected to perform with a heightened sense of determination and drive. The laces are not just handed out to anyone — they must be earned. To be entrusted with the victory laces, players must demonstrate consistent leadership and perseverance. If a player performs well during a game with the laces on, they are allowed to continue wearing them in future matches. However, if the team loses or the player underperforms, the laces are put away until the next significant game. Another superstition that runs deep within the Highlanders organization is the pre-game meal. It’s widely known that the Highlanders(500 words) team has a very specific and secretive meal that they eat before every game. The meal consists of a balanced combination of protein, carbs, and vegetables, prepared to exact specifications by the team’s nutritionist. The players believe that this specific meal has the perfect combination of nutrients to fuel them for a fast-paced and high-energy game. Any deviation from the meal or substitution of ingredients is considered a bad omen. If any player tries to change the menu, they are met with resistance from the team, and sometimes even from the coaching staff, who believe it would “jinx” the game.(600 words) Additionally, players often engage in an old tradition where they “tap” the posts of the goal during warm-ups. Before each game, the entire team lines up at the net and touches the posts, believing it provides a symbolic gesture of good luck and protection from bad goals. They are especially superstitious about this routine before facing off against rivals, as they believe it wards off any bad bounces that could swing the momentum in the wrong direction. The Carolina Kraken are a team that thrives on energy and enthusiasm, and their superstitions reflect this high-octane personality. One of their most(700 words) notable rituals is the “pre-game dance”, which the team performs just before stepping onto the ice. This dance, a combination of individual expressions and synchronized group movements, is believed to boost team unity and set the stage for a high-energy game. The dance itself is an ever-evolving routine, with players adding their own signature moves based on the vibe of the season. The Kraken players believe that their ability to synchronize and let loose in this manner generates positive energy that helps them perform at their best on the ice. Equally important to the Kraken is their "seashell" superstition.(800 words) Each player is given a small seashell before the start of the season, and the shell is believed to bring the team calm and strength during turbulent times. The shell is kept in the player’s locker or taped to their equipment, and it is treated with a great deal of reverence. Before every game, the seashell is placed in the center of the team’s circle, and a few moments of silence are observed while players reflect on the past victories and challenges they’ve overcome. This ritual, though simple, is believed to help players focus and align their thoughts before the (900 words)game. Additionally, the Kraken are known for having a specific order in which players enter the rink before a game. The team believes that the order of entrance determines the team’s momentum during the game. The first player to step onto the ice is typically the team captain, followed by key players known for their leadership. If the order is disrupted, some players believe that the team will struggle to build chemistry early in the game. (976 words) ![]() Registered S36 Challenge Cup Champion
2. Looking Towards the Future
Overall I think we're still looking pretty strong for next season. We're losing a goalie, two forwards, and a defender. We're lucky enough to have a lot of the talent spread out over multiple drafts and there haven't really been any huge misses so it's nice to be able to fill those holes almost immediately. I think the biggest threat we face though is trying to fill the massive gap left on offense by Pulkkinen being called up. We have other forwards we'll be leaning on to make that next step into really taking on that "top forward" role with us. Code: Words: Over 100, +2tpe 7. Winner Winner Chicken Quebec pulled off the back to back and took home the Four Star Cup yet again. I think it's pretty easy to tell that the best team did indeed win this time around and for a number of reasons. First off you can take a look at their top line. Nobody came even remotely close to slowing them down, as in the playoffs they tallied a mind-numbing 105 combined points in just 23 games... likely to be a record of some sort if you were to dig into SMJHL history. Secondly their depth was simply off the charts; their lowest scoring forward was still able to notch 18 points throughout the playoffs, with the lowest scoring PLAYER on the team being their bottom-pairing defender still putting up 8 points... incredible. Their goaltending was slightly below par & the Kraken took them to 7 games in the finals, but the Citadelles' depth was simply too much to stop. Code: Words: Over 150, +3tpe 11. A 6 Star Show For center, you absolutely have to go with Roccamontepiano - an assassin in both the regular season and the playoffs, if you want points then you have to look no further than Quebec's 1C. For the RW, I'll have to go with the rookie Hetaksh from the Kraken. While Rocca provides the playmaking ability, the rookie is only going to grow into the prolific goal-scorer he's known for being heading into the SHL draft. On the other side, I'd have to complete the forward tri-fecta with former playoffs MVP Valterri Pulkkinen. Graduating to the SHL this coming season, Pulkkinen has been an elite performer for four seasons in Maine. For the first defender, I'm going with Dieter Fruhstuck from the Anchorage Armada. He led all bluelines in blocked shots with 78 in just 16 games, a true defensive defender. On the other half of the pairing, I'll be taking Peter from the Citadelles. In addition to posting a +14 rating, he led all defensemen in shots with 88 - assisting an already-lethal forward corps. Between the pipes there is no question - Honza Havran. Another rookie but this time from Carolina. Nearly knocking down the Citadelles in seven games, his SV%, Shots Against, GAA, and wins lead all starting tenders. Simply an amazing performance. Code: Words: Over 200, +4tpe 16. Goals There is actually a lot I'm looking to accomplish with this player, both within the sim and as a member of the forum as well. Within the sim, I'd like to finally win another Challenge Cup... my only one is with Texas way back in Season 36. I've also never won a Four Star so that would be huge for me as well but I'm not holding my breath since I've come so close many times, just doesn't seem to be destiny for me at this point. I'd like to continue IIHF success whenever my player gets high enough in TPE, McBride was really killer in that. Just like everyone else I'm striving to be a max-earner and hopefully grab a HOF nod when it's all said and done, but there's a lot of work to be done before that's even thought about. As far as outside of the sim, I'm really trying to rebuild my reputation after everything that happened. Already holding a few smaller jobs within the forums, maybe I'll look into something bigger like an intern role within HO or something like that. I'd also like to join a podcast or two at some point, I did a few of those in my early SHL days. Code: Words: Over 200, +4tpe 17. Feedback I feel kind of indifferent about it to be honest - although overall it's a move in the right direction. The flexibility to write as much as you want about whatever topic you want is a nice change of pace. The grind is still there though, but I still think the biggest positive change from CW was to split the amount of grinding between IT and ASW. That was definitely a tangible difference rather than trying to plug out all 16tpe in one single go. Again, I'm pretty indifferent about the whole thing but it does help break up the monotony of doing the same thing over & over and expecting fresh content. Code: Words: Over 100, +2tpe 18. Alright alright, now BEAR with me...for the Great Falls Grizzlies, what we're going to do is make a big foam bear claw. Who cares if it's too big and clunky and gets in the fans way while they're seated? Imagine how cool it would be to look up and see a crowd of a bunch of people holding up bear claws swiping at the air after a goal or a win, or waving around side to side. They're cheap, they're cool, they fit the theme and the team, and as an added bonus they get the crowd to look like that cool monotone color, much akin to like a Winnipeg White-out. Except we're a Brown-out. That sounds bad. We really should come up with a different name for that. The second idea I have is to do a teddy bear drive. I know, shamelessly stealing from the Hershey Bears, but having a Teddy Bear toss and supporting charity is super cool. Maybe to differentiate we'd just have teddy bears people can buy and keep for themselves, but I think it would be an awesome tradition to throw teddy bears after each win or hat-trick and have it be a tradition, rather than a once-a-season thing. -- 223 WORDS //+4 TPE -- Code: 18. Looking Towards the Future After two of our best forwards graduated to the majors (Luke and Valor, rip we will miss you dearly) the Great Falls Grizzlies have an offensive hole to patch. Going into next season (and in this draft,) we're looking to draft forwards off the board. We have a strong and solid defensive core of myself, Dirty Puma, Sazed Kholin, and Darzins, and we are really in need of that goalscoring punch to round out the rebuild. After coach Rankle is done talking to us in the locker room, it's time for Kienen McKeller to take over aux privileges--something he is STRICTLY forbidden from doing, and for good reason. Earbuds or foam tips are passed around the locker room for everyone, and it's MANDATORY. Unless you enjoy hearing loss, because it's time to turn the music up. Hopefully loud enough that the other team can't even hear themselves speak. What? You're at the door? You want us to turn our music down? This is our pre-game ritual bro. Wait, why am I even talking to you? I can't heaaar youuu. As for the genre of music itself, you can bet Kienen is putting on emo/screamo/skramz or anything up that alley. The only con is if the other team is into that genre of music, then, well...enjoy the concert? -- 155 WORDS // +3 TPE (11/1 TOTAL) -- Code: 4. Funtimes We're going to keep a theme going here. How about some post-practice jams? Or even a post-win band sesh? The Grizzlies need to come up with a band name--and no, it's not going to be The Grizzlies. We've talked about this extensively on another post about what instrument everyone would play. Kienen's already got the experience on drums, and he was in a screamo band when he was younger. Surely him and a few others can get something together, even if it's just for a bit. If that doesn't work? At least you guys have got some ambience. Drum....ambience. That doesn't sound very calming at all, actually. -- 107 WORDS // +2 TPE (13/16 TOTAL) -- Code: 14. R&R Kienen's flying back to LA this off season. He's hitting up his local spots and seeing whose still kicking, revisiting old friends that will chime in with a 'Hey, aren't you a professional hockey player now?' and make small talk over music and the sort. If he's got the time, Kienen is getting back together with his old band and touring a bit locally, playing a few pickup games at the local rinks with his childhood buddies, and of course visiting home. Re-immersing himself in the Los Angeles life, it's plentiful coffee shops and cultural cuisines a perfect stop and bit of respite. Concerts, night life, family and friends--it really doesn't get any better than being at home. Oh, and of course. You can bet he's putting in the work this off season. There will be LOTS of training. It’s the perfect way to build trust, face challenges as a team, and push ourselves in a different kind of competition—who can handle the heights without holding onto the railings? (Spoiler: probably not our goalie.) After working up an appetite, we’ll head to Granville Island for a laid-back waterfront feast, featuring the best seafood in Vancouver. No pucks, no pressure—just good food, laughs, and maybe a few storytelling battles about the wildest moments from the season. Then, it’s time to hit the waves—literally. We’ll board a private whale-watching tour, cruising through the Pacific as we soak in the scenery and maybe even spot a pod of orcas. It’s a fitting way for the Whalers to celebrate their season—plus, it gives us a chance to decide once and for all if our captain can actually talk to whales. (Results pending.) To wrap up the day? A bonfire on the beach at Jericho, with music provided by yours truly of course, games, and a few cold ones (for those of age, obviously). Whether it’s roasting marshmallows, playing beach hockey(It will be a sandy affair), or just taking in the sunset, it’s the perfect way to relax and recharge prior to what’s next. Team chemistry? 16: Goals
After my first season in the SMJHL with the Kelowna Knights I can definitely say that many things have gone better than others. Today i'll be talking about some things I might need to get better with on the ice and also about some career milestones i'd like to reach until or at the end of my yet young career! Part one: adjustments to make on my game I belive that this part could last forever BUT i'll only point out some evident things that I need to change in order to: gain responsabillities and importance in my coaches' tactics and quite frankly just become a better player overall ! -Discipline Now... I'd say that this part of my game is probably my biggest weekness right now. This season, despite getting better and better defensively one thing was not getting any better than before: I was taking too much penalties. In fact, it never really changed and it seemed like I was in the wrong spots many times or well lets say that I wasn’t always having the best timing in the world on some poke-checks or stick lifts when we were blocked in our own zone. Nevertheless, this is something I'll really need to work towards if I want to keep my team out of trouble as much as possible and maybe become a great penalty killer that my team can count on to be clutch in many situations, which is really plausible as I love to be in those kind of stressful situations! -Shooting accuracy (Shooting percentage): Well, I mean that is pretty self explanatory. I know that I am a playmaker and that my main purpose is to create plays for my teammates BUT getting a goal once in a while never hurts like my dad says. I guess that for that point I can see a light at the end of the tunnel as I worked out a bit to improve as much as possible and it seems that it kind of worked as I put up 8 goals in 12 wjc games with a 25.8 shot percentage so far with Norway as we are heading to the quarter finals ! This is definitely encouraging, but will it continue this following season, it will be interesting to see! Overall production (set new career high): Sure a 13 goals 39 assists season combining for 52 points is great for a rookie, but what is stopping me from setting career high? Thats my way of thinking as I always try to put my bondaries higher and higher and really try to become the best possible. Next season i'd look foward to make a great step up. I'd like to show everybody that I can really reach that franchise potential that I see in myself, as i'm a hard worker. To resume, i'd like to become a pivotal player for my team's penalty kill while also being a key contributor to my team's offense, kind of like Nick Suzuki is succesfully able to do with the Montreal Canadiens since the start of his nhl career! I'd aim for a great breakout season of around 60 points, which I feel like is very very acheivable ! Now, heading over career goals! This category might be a little simple BUT those goals are ones I truely want to accomplish and that I find very very important. -Winning a 4 star cup WITH Kelowna I really wanna put the emphasis on WITH Kelowna as one of my main goals whould be to become an all-star there and really leave a mark there as a great Franchise centerman that led Kelowna to a cup. This is also part of one of my other objective, be loyal to teams who drafted me, as I really enjoy the fact that took me and really gave me an opportunity to shine under their colors and prove everybody who didnt belive in me when I was younger wrong, as much as possible. -Become a HoF member at the end of my career and max earn Now, I know that the road to this introduction might be long but I am 100% invested in putting all the efforts I can to go there as it would confirm that all the efforts I put into my progression(hours of training, meetings with coaches to establish ways I can get better, etc.) Are worth it and that with hard work, almost everything is possible! I also belive that max earning whould be the best way to reach this great club of players that really marked their era and were the bests at their positions! Conclusion: I belive that all the goals I talked about in this small pt are acheivable and that I will probably be able to acheive them rather sooner than later! On another note, I will do my possible to make them acheivable and most inportantly, have the best career I can! 2. The Walleye are certainly in the market for improving on defense after struggling down the stretch with games where they could not give their goaltenders, Grant Berd and Jack Ryan, the support needed for them to win games. It’s important for teams to make up the difference, lest they lose their windows to not ensuring that a position is as strong as it should be. As much as the game is a team sport, champions often defend more than they do not. Without solid defense, you cannot begin to approach the idea of winning games that matter at the major league level, least of all the SHL.
(107 Words) 14. Jack Ryan appreciates all the offseason time he can get, and Thunder Bay is the ideal location for a man raised with fishing in his veins. Though his modus operandi is often on rivers in Maryland and Virginia, the massive Lake Superior provides enough of a playground for him to operate, going out with local fishing bands to enjoy a quiet day of relaxation, exercise, and shared camaraderie. “It’s helpful to clearing your mind, resetting. It can really get you back to factory settings if your year has been a tough one, or month, or week. Whatever gets you back to where you want to be mentally.” (107 Words) 16. Ryan has his mind set for success, and he knows he can’t settle for being complacent. He’s talked at length about his drive to win a Four Star Cup, to be the best goaltender in the league, and continuing that momentum in the SHL and his Minnesota career. Ideally he wants to do that while remaining true to his solid, all-around game, ensuring that his skills do not outpace each other, everything operating at peak efficiency for him. This, he feels, makes his successes a factor closely tied to his effort level, and failure a failing of preparedness. “Being at my best is my responsibility. It’s not something I can say I want to do, or something that is an obligation, I have to be at my best, it’s a matter of being true to how much I want to achieve in my career. Otherwise, I’m lying to the fans, the team, my teammates, the coaches, and I’m lying to myself. Can’t do that, can’t settle for that.” By that logic, last season was an admittedly tough one for Ryan. He sees that at times, his mentality needed adjustment. “You have to admit on occasion that you just aren’t good enough on some nights. Not that you have to like that, but you have to admit it. I still have a long way to grow, a long way to go in my career. It’ll mean more hard work to ensure I can perform against the best teams, the best players, that I can match the great goalies at the other end of the ice on any given night.” On why he thinks he needs to achieve these goals, Ryan says it comes from his time in the Marine Corps. “We got the job done, whatever it was, and we achieved everything we needed to in that time, we couldn’t shave off goals, we didn’t settle. Either we got it done and won or we didn’t, and I was taught that we don’t settle for second-best. I never forgot that, I’ll keep that as a part of my game forever. So when I say I want to achieve everything I can at every level that I play, I mean that, I mean that I want to achieve as many wins as I can, as many accolades as I can, while also being as good a teammate as I can be. That’s what being consistent, being driven is all about.” Ryan wasn’t able to achieve much in his limited freshman starts, and the Walleye were a young team that in many ways were learning as much about winning as Ryan was. “It’ll be difficult on occasion, it’s always hard to a degree. It’s about who responds well to that adversity at the end of the day. I need to be the best I can be, and I’ve gotten into that before, but you look at the goalies that have won championships, won hardware for their teams, they learn how to win, and then they apply those lessons, they apply those teaching moments to their advantage, and then they go and win.” All eyes point to whether Ryan can make those key steps forward along with his team as they look to get closer to the goals both the Walleye as a whole and Ryan share.
