WOW WOW WOW!!! What a treat the semifinals were for us! WE WILL SEE A NEW TEAM STAND ATOP THE PODIUM TOMORROW. Team Canada

gets taken down in the semifinal by a strong French

side and in dramatic fashion no less. On the other side, an evenly matched game was kept just out of reach for the American

team by the Norwegians

.
The Group A match up was a heavyweight tilt between the second place Team France

and fourth place Team Canada

. France

handled the Canadians

easily in the group stage beating them 8-4 and 4-2. However, the Canadians

showed why they can't be underestimated dismantling a strong Finish

side in the quarterfinal. Canada went up 3-0 by the third minute early and made it look like they were going to competing for the threepeat. Despite a relatively quiet first 30 minutes of the game, France

came back with force. Scoring three goals in just over two minutes, the game was suddenly tied at 3-3. Momentum was in France's

favour but things simmered down quickly. The game looked like it was going to head to sudden death overtime but Oliver Castillon had other ideas. Slaying the dragon that has been Team Canada

over the past few tournaments, Castillon scored with 52 seconds left to put France

up by a goal. The dagger had done it's job as team Canada

reign was ended. France

will be playing for gold while Canada

will be playing for bronze.
The Group B semifinal was a close game. Norway

scored 38 seconds in killing any kind of great start Team USA

would have wanted to have. The rest of the first was scoreless with teams trading goals in the second making it 2-1 heading into the third. Norway

scored early in the third to go up two with the the Americans

taking 10 minutes to respond. Scoring in the 14th minute, putting the game back within one. An empty net goal from Norway

put the game away and booked their ticket to the gold medal game.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe France

has earned themselves their first ever IIHF medal!!! Although they will be pleased with that, making their first medal a gold will be that much sweeter! Norway

has earned themselves their first medal since S74. A drought that felt long after standing on the podium for four tournaments in a row. They have a chance to earn their first gold medal since S67. This game means a lot for both teams!
In the bronze medal game, we have the Americans

who haven't been on the podium since S63. That is a massive drought for a team that has selection of all the players they want. They will be pumped up for this game! To earn a medal and to do it against Team Canada

, you couldn't write this any better. Not only that, but the United States

have a chance to push a Goliath of a team Canada

off the podium. Team Canada

will need to regroup after a disappointing semifinal. We will see if they are able to get that out of their mind and bring it in the bronze medal game!
