1.
I really like the new All Star game format and not just because my player got picked to play in it. I think that the new, tournament style will be a breath of fresh air. The single game format is pretty played out, random as hell (game play wise) and not very interesting to folks who aren't actually involved in it. With this new format, you're getting a chance for the results to actually be from who the best of the best are and not random chance. I also really like the fact that more people are involved in the all star game this season. It's just nice to have more people be recognized for the contributions their player makes to their teams. In the previous format, you were definitely leaving out multiple people who really should have had a chance to shine but because of the limitations of the teams, were not allowed too.

2.
You know what would really spice up the all star game? A fighting tournament! There isn't enough fighting in the league and we really should seeing who the best fighters are. So how do you accomplish this? Bump up the aggression and fighting for all of the players involved (goalies included) in the game and let them go nuts. The winner of the fighting tournament would be determined by who won the most fights while getting into the least amount. That way you wouldn't just have a winner based off of them challenging everyone over and over to rack up the wins.

3. If we really want to spice up the new all star format I can think of a few ways to make it more accessible. First of all, I know we all love and want to see more best on best competition but what about worst on best? What if we had an all-star team play 3 on 5 against the dominant bear-league team of the area that is being played? This opens up for a ridiculous level of possibilities to illustrate the raw talent level of each position. I mean imagine if the NHL opened up and allowed a representative from the ECHL, AHL and NHL all to compete for the all star events. Showcase the ridiculous level of talent on display at even the lower levels to try to bring in more fans to all affiliates and build the game. In the case of the SHL this could be incorporated as relays of some sort to demonstrate depth of conferences or IIHF teams. It may be unconventional but I feel it could be a worthwhile endeavor just to give everyone a little low stakes event where a junior player sneaks in to surprise the competition. It would mostly rely on luck but low stakes is a perfect place for it. (211 words, +4)
11. Dear mother. It has been a long season since I have returned and yet I feel I must make the trek through the Rockies to return to your tender embrace. The snows have returned mother and the trials will again be tough but I shall climb to you again or meet my doom. On the other hand this climbing really burns the core and I hope this will translate to a better, stronger skater in the coming months. I hope this letter gets to you well and we may train together again. The Grizzlies shouldn’t bother me this season as I have joined their brood. Don’t fret and prepare the weights. - Outen Deboonies. 8. The representative for the Seattle Argonauts is none other than star first line center, Shadow Fenix. This is his fourth consecutive All Star appearance and he has now made the All Star roster every season that he has been in the league. These accolades are, no doubt, once again very deserved as he once again finished as the top point scorer on his team with 81 points and second in goals with 31. This marks his fourth consecutive 30 goal season and he has shown remarkable consistency since his rookie season with the Argos. He is both pivot and finisher on the power play and plays in nearly all crucial situations in the game. Despite his very impressive offensive stats, he is no slouch in the defensive end with 63 takeaways and playing over two minutes per game on the penalty kill. He will be coming to the All Star Game festivities with this well rounded tool kit and is expected to be able to hang with the league's finest and most skilled players. These are the players he is consistently matched up with during the season, after all, and should have no problem leaving his mark and making the Seattle Argonauts proud to have him as their very deserving representative. (211 words) +4TPE

12. Simo Jaaskelainen should get a serious look for best defensive defenseman as he is coming off an absolutely stellar season for the Seattle Argonauts. His 324 blocked shots ranked second in the league while averaging almost 21 minutes per game and almost 3 minutes per game on the penalty kill. He was an absolute horse for Seattle this past season and even chipped in 31 points. (66 words) +1TPE

2. Do you like the new format? Why or why not?

I'd say the new format is better than the old one. Or at least I prefer the new. There are more teams, instead of the 2 of the old format, there are 4 now. Sure it means a few more games but it also means there is more opportunity for players who did well to get into the All-star games. And now players are selected from divisions rather than conference which once again gives more opportunity, so it's great.

11. Offseason plans

Dear Froya

This is gonna be the first offseason we are spending away from each other in only God knows how long. While it is certainly weird that I don't get to spend my offseaons (at least partly) with you like I always did since we begin our professional career, it's not the end of the world either. The last few days (as promised) I have spent resting, I have felt tempted to go training like I always do but I kept my promise to you and rested my body. As much as I hate to admit, you are right. We are not getting any younger so we will have to take care of out own body. That being said, yesterday I have gone for a walk and it was very relaxing, the weather is beautiful and you know how much I miss good weather when it's not around. So it was certainly good that I've finally got a chance to walk in such a beautiful weather. I have also managed to meet up with an old friend of ours. And before you ask, he is doing well. Will want to meet up with you as well once you are here but I'm sure that will happen so there is nothing to worry about.

With love, Sonja.

3. What would you do to spice up the new All-star format even further?

I think the All-star format could be spiced up if they also had a rookie SMJHL game. It doesn't have to be a whole tournament like some of the other special events we have on the site, but maybe we just have them play one quick game. I think it may help get the newer players engaged with the league and familiar with how the streaming works plus where to find it after their first season starts (132 words 2 TPE)

Tell me about your teammate who made the all star expo! Who are they, why were they an obvious choice to make the All Star roster, and what do you expect from them this ASE? (If more than one of your teammates made the game, pick one of those players other than yourself. If you are the only player on your team selected for the all star game so far, write who else should had been picked from your team.)

Spaceman Spliff was selected from Ottawa to represent the team along with Easton Schaffer and Pavel Mintyukov. Having been on the team for the past few seasons I can safely say we really did send our best players to represent the team. Spaceman had an unreal season this year scoring a team leading 92 points, which comes with a 17% shooting percentage. Really high skilled player to be part of a great team. Then on the other team we have Easton and Pavel. Easton was only a few points behind Spaceman at the end of the year, but also played a more defensive type of game. Meanwhile Pavel was running the offense on the power play and in most of the regular five on five hockey. They both played really well for their more defensive based roles with Ottawa. This is Spaceman and Easton's last season for Ottawa and they will be sorely missed on the ice. We are going to have some really big shoes to fill when the next season starts and hopefully my skater will be able to rise to the occasion. (186 words 3 TPE)

2. I think short tournaments are extremely fun! Something akin to IRL being the Four Nations where you would hope to see people put in more effort. But in something like the SHL it is still a really good addition. Instead of having two teams made up of a handful of players from each other teams you would get four instead. That is already huge because it opens up the field for players who maybe didn't quite make the cut. Not to mention it is a larger avenue so teams who might have one bad game can learn to work together and get a better understanding of everything. One bad game should never hold back a team from winning something!

Really there are no downsides to the formatting. Players get to know their temporary team and they get to work together to solve problems. But it raises the skill cap too. Not to mention it is just more fun to have more sims and see what players can do with those sims. It is always great to see more games and have those players get more chances to prove themselves. It seems like it is overall a great idea and I am ready to see how it all plays out.

10. So who do I like the most out of each of the teams? I am going to throw out my favorite pick with the PCF who seem very strong and have a really nice roster of people. And how can you not really just enjoy the team roster in general? Tony Pepperoni, Logan Webb, Froya Solberg, and many many more. It’s hard not to enjoy that team with so many powerful players on it. I think they are going to be my favorite team to go through the tournament.

But really all of the teams look extremely balanced on the surface especially with the extremely talented goal scorers. I may be biased as a fellow defenseman but I think the series is going to come down to two things. Defense and goaltending. Whoever can manage to put some stoppage to the heavy goalscorers is going to find success in the top of the top. It is really easy to score goals even with a team that isn’t exactly the best at it but it is difficult to put a stop to good defense.

The Hall of Famers are going to be a huge impact (hopefully). They made it to the Hall of Fame after all so they must’ve done something right. But they might just have that extra experience and skill that maybe some of the other players might not have yet as they continue their own development.

What I want to do is talk about someone who is maybe not the obvious choice to make the All Star Game as a representative of the Seattle Argonauts. Seattle got three representatives this time, including two defensemen in Kalakar Kekkonen and Simo Jaskelainnen. Simo Jaskelainnen is someone who you would not think would be an appropriate choice as he is a defense first defender whose numbers do not leap off the page at you - that is until you consider his defensive impact in terms of shots blocked and takeaways. The defensive side of the game sometimes gets overlooked in favor of flashy numbers but it is something that can and does win games for teams. Therefore, the defensive impact of Simo Jaskelainnen is something of great importance of nature. I expect him to be a great value to the All Star Pacific team, and to possibly turn the tide against the other teams playing in the exhibition.

Write a letter to someone your player cares deeply about from the perspective of your player about their offseason plans.

Dear Mama, I am sorry that I will be missing Nana's birthday this season, but unfortunately some of the training plans that we have overlap with when you are planning for her celebration. What I can do is to come early perhaps, and surprise her by showing up unexpectedly. Hopefully that will make up for missing the actual celebration, and I can give her the gift that I am going to bring then. Please do give my best to Uncle Sven and Aunt Morgan, I do miss them and the little kiddos as well, and I'll try to see them when I get some free time to fly back. Next season will hopefully be huge for us and I appreciate that you are being patient with me with how much time I am spending in training camps and other off season plans.

2. I think the new format makes a lot of sense. I feel like you either need to do an all star team without any concern for conference/division, or you need to go as granular as possible without going team by team. Since we're not doing just one for the whole league, which would be a bad idea for the SHL due to the sim engine, this is a good idea.
3. The best way to really spice up the all star game would be to do it in an awards style where the best skater, shooter, hitter, etc. all get spots in the all star game game and on the rosters. This would be the ASG really fun to watch because you'd get to see some of the skill players get put through the glass.
4. Tampa Bay and Atlanta are the two best teams in the SHL this season in my opinion so it has to be the Atlantic division from top to bottom. If you combine those two times like we're doing here you've got yourself a super team without a doubt. Maybe give and edge to the Pacific for having Justin Time in net. He's been around for a long time and won a lot.

Many of Cal Juice's teammates made the ASG roster, but Sad Ketchup by far deserved it the most as the player who led the team in both goals and assists. I expect him to be at the center of play when he's on the ice, he's one of those guys who really makes everyone around him better and it'll be really cool to see that skill on display with the best talent in the entire SHL. He also told Cal Juice that when he scores his first goal in the all star game he's going to attempt to do a backflip on the ice as his celebration so everyone watching can anticipate and expect that!

2. Do you like the new format? Why or why not?, 100-149 words, 2 TPE (+2)

I like that there are more players represented, but it does somewhat diminish the term "All-Star". Ultimately, if it gets people more involved that is probably a good thing even if it means that the honor is not necessarily as hard to get as it was previously. I think the new format is good overall, however I do think that the Atlanta Inferno should have had more players selected simply because they were the best team in the ATL this season. Of all of the other teams in the city of ATL, there were none that were better as there is only one team in ATL. Therefore all of the spots should go to the Atlanta Inferno. I feel very passionately about this and will be writing to my congress person.

2. Do you like the new format? Why or why not? 1TPE
Damn right I like the new format. Because there is no way I would have made the old format this season, but I made the new one! Making this the best change to happen to the SHL I retired from the All Star Committee. So just the last season. Either way, more players making it is more engagement, which is great.

5. Who are the most unexpected players taking part in the event? Why? 1TPE
Cleary Lester Oiduser (myself) is the most unexpected. I just changed from Defence to forward this season, so making the all star game was the furthest thing from my mind. But really this just proves that playing D is way harder than playing F, so maybe this was the most likely result.

8. The Newfoundland Berserkers had four of its players making an All Star appearance this year. The league's top goal scorer, Jason Bourne, made it to the All Star game with 56 goals and 47 assists for a total of 103 points. Jett Labyrinth, another forward, will be appearing at the games as well. Big Sweg, one of our top defensemen, and the Berserkers starting goaltender, Katharina Rosenthal, have made it to the All Star game. Jett had a explosive season where he notched 94 points from 33 goals and 61 assists. Also, he shot at 22.1% so his shots have been extremely accurate and precise this season. Big Sweg was one of our top D and he was great on the powerplay. He had 23 assist with the man advantage. Sweg's giveaway to takeaway ratio was ridiculous. He had only 11 giveaways to his 76 takeaways. Katharina Rosenthal has been amazing for the Berserkers. She had the most wins as a goalie in the SMJHL this season and posted the highest save percentage from the starters at 0.915. The four players are the biggest reasons why the Berserkers have had success in the league. I expect Jason and Jett to be an offensive dynamic duo at the ASG. Big Sweg will undoubtedly be a problem for the other team as a contributor offensively and as a defensive nuisance. Katharina Rosenthal will be a wall and let no puck pass her in the net. These players deserve to be in the All Star game for their incredible talent and skills that they have demonstrated in S81! - 265 words

Task 11:
Rose,

You know I’m sorry that we can’t spend this offseason together. I’ve been gettin’ antsy myself thinking about it. I know it’s been years, and if anyone were to catch up to us they would’ve done so when my name got put in lights but that was a risk I was willing to take. This is going to be a busy offseason though, and the Dragons need me at my best. The coaches’ plans are finally coming together. All of the J drafts that we were waiting for have come up and now it’s a matter of building that team cohesion. The team’s… fine. Those bubs get real chummy when they want to, and you know me. We’ve had this conversation. I just need to take some time off to be by myself. It’s been too long since I’ve been properly camping. I wish you’d come with me, but I understand why you’d rather leave that behind. I’ve left a note of my location in case you want to come find me.
James.
P.S. If any of those bubs find out where I am, or start saying I have emotions or that I was ever anxious, I know it’ll be you. Watch out, bub.  (Word Count: 206. +4 TPE)

Task 12:
I think James should get an award. Or I should get an award! Specifically, an SMJHL award. Now, that’s crazy you might think. Me and my player are already multiple seasons into the SHL! I was robbed, I tell you. That’s why I should get a J award. Every season felt so close to getting something, anything, but situations beyond my control just left me with my only lower division award being WJC silver medal. Which, of course, was a great run. Still would be nice to have something else to be known for. I’m desperate, y’all. I beg of you, I can pretend to be young and hip again. (Word Count 110, +2 TPE)
