3. What would you do to spice up the new All-star format even further?

A fight to the death in the all star game would be great. My player isn't particularly good anymore, so if we are able to make the all star game be a fight to the death then that'll greatly decrease the number of really good players in our league. As the herd thins, my player will continue to rise up the ranks and ensure he's able to make a living season after season. Now, that'll require careful planning by Rasmus to ensure he doesn't get good enough to make the all star game, at his advanced age he certainly wouldn't survive such an event.

11. Written, 50 to 200+ words. Offseason Plans
Write a letter to someone your player cares deeply about from the perspective of your player about their offseason plans.

Dear mother, I am writing to you from the depths of the off-season where i have just left a darkness retreat in the woods like I'm Aaron Rodgers. Much like Aaron, I feel much enlightened and connected with the land. I have renounced social media apps and have committed to a life of eating only things brought from the earth - carrots, kale, fungi. The rest of the off-season will be spent in the gym, working to improve my cardio and strength because this old boy just ain't running out there like he used to. I'm going to spend some time travelling through Europe, learning about other culture and working to implicate that into my game - the Finns know how to Finish and the Swedes know how to Swede. I feel I've become disconnected with those parts of our culture while in Los Angeles and hopefully some time back home in Europe will bring me back to where I was before coming to North America. Finally, I'm planning to just play a lot of golf because I find it to be a really relaxing game that allows me to center myself with all the craziness that comes with being a professional athlete, and also just a great bonding experience with the boys. I'll try to come visit next offseason, but see you on the mom's trip!

8. Kral King… people shake in fear when they hear that name. With a big 33 goals and 48 assists for a total of 81 points, King was the heart and soul of what ended up being a not so great season. In a strong western conference, being able to put up numbers like these are very impressive. Even if he was a few short of the leaderboard, still being able to put up these crazy numbers on a weaker season is something to be proud of. How often do you see a player casually put up this many points? I think Kral King was an obvious choice for both his excellency both through scoring and through passing.

11. Dear Greyson Willis,
Even though we fight both on and off the ice, both in the good times and the bad we always come out incredibly beaten. How would you like to come down to Latvia with me this season? It would be so much fun and I already have a whole intense training regiment planned out! I know I’m not supposed to help the enemy, but you might get eaten by a bear so it’s up to the flip of a coin! We’ll start off by doing suicides on the rink with 5 tons strapped to both our chest and our back! Then we will put pucks in one of those tennis ball dispensers and practice using both our body and our sticks to block them. After that we can run a Triathlon like 3 whole times! Then after that short warm up we can get to the real stuff and play some pond hockey with some bears!

11. Written, 50 to 200+ words. Offseason Plans

Dear, superfan

I've heard you were wondering about how I spend my offseason so I figured I'd write you a letter explaining what my plans are for the offseason. It was a crazy start to this off season since I got traded from Baltimore to Winnipeg, Baltimore got a new GM and decided to go a different direction which I completely understand. Winnipeg is starting to come out of a rebuild so it's a good time to be joining the team. First off was selling my house in Baltimore and finding a new home Winnipeg, the house shopping wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I settled in pretty easily. After that it was getting to meet up with some of my new teammates and coaches, I got to sit down and talk with the coaches about how they want to play in their scheme. With that done I spend a couple of weeks relaxing letting my mind and body heal and get ready for the rigors of a new SHL season. During that time I take a vacation, play video games, go out and do the things I wanted to do during the season that I didn't have time for. After that it's all about prepping for next season, I had back to the gym and the rink to build up my strength and endurance while try to get my sleep schedule to kinda mimic how it will be during the season. That's what I have planned for this offseason, and thank you for being a fan. Signed Jay Bryzi.

2. Do you like the new format? Why or why not?

I've heard the arguments for and against the new format but I've got to say that I like it. I've seen people say that having this many All Stars diminishes what an All Star means and I disagree, I think with the new change it helps shines the light on players who don't play for one of the top teams and lets them show their talent and get the recognition they deserve. It's hard to put up the insane stats needed to be an All Star when you don't have the help around you. Also I think there's a little more pride at stake when you are playing and representing the area that your team is in, plus there's nothing like playing with your rivals.

5. Who are the most unexpected players taking part in the event? Why?
6. Who do you think should be captain of each team? Why?

5. I think its unexpected to see Flacko Lagerfield show up for the Hall of Famers. It's clear that they went with some of the best of all time with Ron Mexico, Visser, and Garbanzo but Lagerfield isn't even close to that tier. Also there is the fact that the user jss hasn't been around since 2022.

6. Probably Bojo Biscuit for Atlantic. The big time defender that the award is named for. Has a lot more experience than most of the guys on that roster. For Central its gotta go to Jason Visser the GOAT or one of them at least but that team is stacked with Mexico and Garbanzo that's 3 of the top 3 in SHL75. Northern division has no where near the star power of Central but it does have grummy worm. I would give the captaincy to Daniel Grumathan easily because I trust Grum with my life. Pacific gotta go to Tony Pepperoni that guy lead the Blizzard forever and is really that go-to face-of-the-franchise type guy when you think about Edmonton and he played some in the current era which those other olds like Esa can't say, though Esa would probably have been my second choice as he was in kind of the same capacity for Calgary.

8. Written, 50 to 200+ words. The Teammate One
Tell me about your teammate who made the all star expo! Who are they, why were they an obvious choice to make the All Star roster, and what do you expect from them this ASE? (If more than one of your teammates made the game, pick one of those players other than yourself. If you are the only player on your team selected for the all star game so far, write who else should had been picked from your team.)

Gwendolyn Telenn and Alex Johansen made it in for Edmonton which is crazy to see considering it is the sophomore season for both of them. Goes to show how young Edmonton is as a team and how bright their future is except for one old guy. Weirdly though this was a much worse season for Johansen then last, as she posted 29 fewer points than last season. The majority of them goals too. Telenn did perform a little better than her last season and ultimately ended up with more points than Johansen. There is still some competition in Edmonton to see who is going to be their top player moving forward.

Minnesota and Montreal only got one player selected to the tournament, despite there being two more teams than there has been in the past. Pick a player from either of the teams that you think should have made it, or would be the best option if we wanted to ensure each team has more than one player taking part in the event. And who would you remove from the team to make room for them? Would you consider it a swap that should be done or do you agree with the all-star committee and think that even the second best option is a bit too far from the player that made it into the team?

Code:
10. Written, 50 to 200+ words. All-Star EXPO 80
Instead of a game between two teams we get a short tournament of 4 teams. Write your predictions for the 6 game round robin and the playoffs. Do you see it as anyone's game or is there a clear favorite among the teams? How much impact do you expect from the added Hall of Fame players?

You gotta go with central for those 3 top tier hall of famers plus they have Chris Valentine who is one of the best players in the league right now. Honorable mention to the crazy goalie tandem in the Northeast as well as their scary offense of Wilson plus Lakemore and defensive stud Adam Barron. Very balanced team and might be tough to beat. Pacific team has a lot of leadership on the team but maybe not the raw talent that the other teams have. Ok now that I think about it Atlantic has VLAD McZehrl who I think is the one that was definitely taking PEDs so if he keeps doing that then that might be the secret weapon.

Add a skills relay race where players from each team have to complete challenges like stickhandling through obstacles, shooting accuracy, and a mini 2-on-1 rush to score. Finish it with goalies trying to score on an empty net for bonus points. Pure chaos, but it’d be amazing!

Dear Jae-ik,

Hey buddy! Hope you’re doing well and getting some much-needed rest after the grind of the season. I just wanted to drop you a quick note about what’s ahead this offseason because, honestly, I think we’ve earned some time to relax and recharge. I’m planning to hit the gym hard—gotta make sure the legs are ready for next season—but I’m mixing in some fun, too. Thinking about a little beach time, maybe some hiking trips, and definitely working on my golf game (which still needs a miracle to improve).

But listen, I’ve also got something else in mind: we’ve got to take that road trip we talked about last year. Hit the west coast, check out some national parks, and just unplug for a bit. You in? I’m sure we can convince a couple of the other guys to tag along. It’ll be the perfect way to reset before we get back to work.

Also, don’t think you’re getting out of joining me for some offseason training sessions. You know how much I appreciate your steady presence on the ice, and I want to make sure we’re both sharper than ever when the puck drops next season.

Let me know if you’re down. I’ll even bring the snacks.

Catch you soon,
Billy

If Xavier Beausoleil came down with the case of the Mondays or any other ailment preventing them from participating in the All-Star game, I would choose Jussi Mutou to be their replacement. They were the leading goal scorer of the Montreal Patriotes this season with 29 goals and second in points with 66, a perfect 1.00 P/GP. In addition they shared the lead in power play points with Beausoleil with 24. One place they had Beausoleil beat was their physical play, a team leading 127 bone crushing hits. Looking into the advanced stats, Jussi's Relative Corsi was again team best and although their Relative Fenwick didn't lead the team for a change it was a very respectable 4th. (119)

Dear Grandma,

Hey Grandma it's been awhile since I last wrote you. I have so much to tell you so make sure you have a full cup of coffee ready. The season's finished, my second's now in the "J" as everyone likes to call it, made the all-star team this year too. In celebration we're going to take everyone to Lego land, you know how much your great-grandson loves Lego. Don't worry we'll check his pockets regularly so he doesn't walk off with a pouch full of Lego. Remember the time he had your glasses in there and we couldn't find them for hours? After we're done there we will stop by and see Dad. You know he doesn't remember things so well anymore so we're stopping by more and more. He might have to move soon but don't worry we found a place that will take good care of him. I haven't forgotten about you either, the whole family will be stopping by on your birthday for a few hours. I know your busy catching up with grandpa after all these years apart so I hope you can spare an hour or too for us. Until we meet again.

Love,
Twinkle (202)

3. I think there are a couple things you could do to beef up the All-Star Game format. First and foremost, you know how the NFL added flag football to the Pro Bowl? Yeah, I think we should add flag football on ice. What could possibly go wrong with that? These guys are already clearly the most skilled athletes in the league, and while it might seem pretty difficult to play that kind of sport on such a slippery surface, where you can't really change your momentum all that easily, the all stars are smart enough to figure it out. If that doesn't sound like a good idea, maybe we could add some sort of obstacle course or other test of strength similar to American Ninja Warrior. This would also be on ice, of course. We could probably get rid of some of the super high off the ground obstacles or just make them all a little shorter, like the one where you have to jump along the pegs with a ring or where you have to grab onto the edges of the things and jump. I have no idea what the obstacles are called. The final wall you have to climb up will just be a sheet of ice. Good luck. (212 words +4)

Jared,
What's up, bro? Haven't wrote in a while. We are in the offseason right now so I figured I'd update you while I had the chance. Season was great, we got to the finals and almost won. Gonna be hitting the weight room quite a lot the next couple months, gotta get ready for next season. If you end up having a day off and you wanna hit the gym with me let me know! I know you and your team have a pretty tight schedule, but we can make a plan. I'll see you around bro, call me when you get this. -Greyson (105 words, +2 (but only +1 to get to 8 total))

2. I think the new format for the All-Star game is a fun idea and gives it a little bit more competitiveness than a regular single star game would be. Turning it into a tournament with round robin play with the semi and a championship gives these players a lot of games to be able to show everyone why they were all stars and what they can do with multiple chances on the ice in different games and against different players. This format is a fun way to make the game more competitive and hopefully get a lot more out of the players when they are on the ice. It should be some very fun competition to watch during each game and see how each divisional team will work together and do throughout the tournament. It is also nice in this format that the teams will have more than just one game to play against each other. Also allowing multiple games with the new All-Star teams with players that haven’t played together at all is a good chance for teams to continue to get better as the tournament goes on with building chemistry. (192 Words +3 TPE)

8. The New England Wolfpack had three players make it to the All-Star game, but the one that I am going to focus on and talk about the most is going to be Thomas Sawschuk. Thomas earned his All-Star spot by leading the New England Wolfpack in goals, assists and points during the regular season. He had 40 goals, 50 assists and 90 points helping New England lead the way to the playoffs. They were the obvious choice from New England because if you are leading your team in all offensive categories, then you should make the All-Star game with no question. What I expect from Thomas in the All-Star game is the same thing that he brought to New England during the regular season, which would include his abilities to be able to score and set up his teammates to create offense. In the All-Star game, he should be able to do that fairly well because he will be playing alongside two other teammates during the game, which he already has built up chemistry with. Antoine Beauregard and Pork Tenderloin worked well with Thomas during the regular season and I am excited to see what they will do in the All-Star game. ( 202 Words +4 TPE)

8. One of my teammates were an obvious choice for the All Star Roster, and their name is Kim Chaewon! I don’t know much about the player much at all actually, but I vaguely know JamesT! They won the most dedicated user award in Carolina Kraken’s awards. So it makes sense for their player to also be incredibly goated if they’re so generally dedicated to the league.I expect them to do very well in the ASE! (77 words, 1 tpe)

Someone my player profoundly cares about is an awakened (sentient) fish named Helena Coral. She is a Clownfish. The letter would go like this:
“Dear Helena,
Life has once more beaten me over the head with the message that you can’t win them all, even when you try so hard and get so close. If you weren't able to keep up with what’s happening in the SMJHL, Carolina Kraken got to the finals against Quebec City Citadelles. I know how much you looooove them. We took them to game seven but barely didn’t manage to swipe victory from their cold, dead talons. I suppose it didn’t change the night's outcome; however, I would get sloshed either way.
With playoffs off my mind now, however, I can focus on how I will make this next season (LAST SEASON) with Carolina my best one yet. More laps! More training! More White Castle! Since White Castle is what made both of us sentient, surely more of it would make us smarter, right? And the smarter I am, the more strategies I can devise and then suggest to the coach!
You know me! I’ll keep pushing and pushing until I’ve made a name for myself! Even if I’m not the most social person… I’m trying to be more actively engaged with my team, though! Promise! I wonder if you’ll one day join me.

One thing that I have to admit that I do not like about the new format is the use of legacy SHL players in the All Star Game. I have no issues with them being part of an expanded All Star Game event such as an alumni game or some sort of media push. However, I think it is important to note that the majority of the former players named to All Star rosters are inactive. They may very well be important to the fabric of the league (some even have awards named after them), however, I feel like there was an opportunity to include 12 more active, contributing players in the event and not doing so was a big miss. There are teams that had 1 representative chosen and we're resurrecting the corpse of Ron Mexico, who last logged in so long ago his account doesn't exist on this version of the site. It just feels like for an event that doesn't always get as much attention as the organizers would like, cutting down on the people with some sort of investment in the All Star Game is a poor choice. Luckily, it's a simple fix for next season.

Dear Dad,

I never really got it when you said Seattle comes alive during the playoffs but I get it now. I wish we could have gotten further than we did but we're knocking on the door at least. I know you said it takes getting kicked in the nuts by disappointment a few times to really understand what it takes to succeed in the playoffs.

I think back to all the times where I had to make a play late in games no matter how beat up and tired I was. Knowing that my teammate needed more from me than I thought I could so we could make that routine play and try and win our shift just showed me how far I have to go. I need to be in better shape than I thought was ever possible because I need to know I'll be ready to play 60 minutes a night if that's what the team needs.

I've hired your old personal trainer, Mark. He had me puking within an hour of our first session. But after a week, I'm starting to feel it come together. All I want is to live up to the expectations that everyone has for me because of you and Grandad. I'll let you know how it goes - I have some hills to run.

Love,

Jesus

2. Do you like the new format? Why or why not?
3. What would you do to spice up the new All-star format even further?

2. Any situation where we can get Jason Visser, Ron Mexico, and Alonzo Garbanzo playing again after so many seasons is surely a win. It’s a nice touch to have them mixed in with the stars of today in their division and I’d love to see more of that. However, I think having four full teams of all stars kind of dilutes the honor a bit. If my player was any good, I would fell much better about being selected for earlier editions of the all star teams. I think a good balance would be having first and second team honors so the actual best of the best are celebrated for that, but then we have enough for wider participation.

119 words, +2 TPE

3. Building off my previous answer, I would spice things up by having first and second honors overall, but then sorting into teams based on division and filling out with legends based on positional need. If one division is made up of entirely 2nd team all stars, they may play with a chip on their shoulder. This also flips the script on the hall of fame legends who sub in to the teams. Rather than picking the historical best of each division, there should be all star GMs who draft their hall of fame legends to complete their roster. I would love to see a notable shut down defensive player slot in to round out a high flying offensive roster.

13. Written, 50 to 200+ words. Hall of Representatives
This season's All-Star tournament features three hall of fame players from each division. If this is to return for next season which players you would like to see making it to the All-Star EXPO81 from each division. What criteria would you use? Would you try to pick out the best players or leave something for years to come? Make sure as many teams get represented as possible? Make up to 12 picks and explain your reasoning for them.

As stated above, I would have all star GMs who pick the hall of fame players for their division. This would probably be the GM of the team that wins each division, nice and easy. To make sure more teams get represented, I would basically have a cooldown for each player based on who much success they have. For example, if the Jason Visser, Ron Mexico, Alonzo Garbanzo stack gets absolutely swept because this crop of all stars just doesn’t fit together very well, I don’t want to lose this opportunity to revisit these stars. Let them come back next year and try again. Conversely, if this stack absolutely sweeps, they can’t come back for like 4-5 seasons.

I would also go a little outside the box. I wouldn’t limit to just hall of fame players. I would let GMs pluck anyone out of retirement at their peak to slot into the lineup as they are needed. However, each player will need to be associated with only a single team. My first thought is whichever team they played the most games with, but that might come across a little weird if their peak was snapshotted with some other team. For example, if I play up to my highest potential with Winnipeg, then go take a long retirement with Baltimore, I may want to be remembered as a Winnipeg player. Luckily, no one is picking me to round out a lineup Smile

11. Hello Mother, I am writing to inform you of my plans for the offseason for the North Stars. First off, I will be traveling to the great country of South Korea and spending some time there with other teammates for about 1 month. We will be training over there just slightly. I do Invite you and father to come over for a bit and see this country for a bit. Then, we do have a 1 week mandatory minicamp for TOR, but then after that is over I'll be back in Amsterdam and Europe for a while. It will be lovely to see you all again over the summer. I will be hosting a skating/hockey camp for the time I am in Europe, first by myself in Amsterdam, and then kinda as a traveling band with some other SHL players around our hometowns. I can not wait for this to happen, as I believe it will be a great way for us SHL players to not only expand our brand in Europe, but just grow the game of hockey in general, which I believe will bring greater boons to us than near anything else could. Love, your son and hockey child, Cade de Vries (205 words, 4 TPE)

2. I do like the new format, as it will allow more representation over the entire league for players to play in the all star game, and will also allow teams for nearly all fandoms care more about the game, as their players will have a bigger role for their team than they normally would. Plus, having it be a round robin is a fun concept that at least makes the games slightly matter a tad more, than just one throwaway game that no one really cares about, given there always seems to be regional pride on the line, which division is better, yadda yadda you get my point. Plus, bringing back SHL royalty in the form of all stars will always bring back the old nostalgia, and will allow a younger generation to be able to watch some of the greatest to ever do it play in the all star games ( although I do not know how well their bodies are going to hold up to young and fresh players, might get the EMS on standby). Also, It can turn the All-Star game in to a multitude of events evenly spread out across multiple days, allowing for not everyday to be the big day but for every day to have some importance, which will help ease things up for logistics and the arena organizers (224 Words, 4 TPE)
