S81 PT #1: Stay a while and Listen Due: Sunday, February 23rd @ 11:59 PM PST

Task 1:
So everyone around the SMJHL knows that Jean Bon isnt quite the kindest guy around the league. As the captain of the Scarecrows, I know that my job in those kind of situations is to talk to the referee, calmly explaining to him the situation, and obviously the referee won't care at all because it's the only job everyone does bad in the world.
Now, if you think Jean is doing all of this, you're wrong. Violence is the solution in that case. If our video guy ain't doing his job correctly, he shall get slashed by my stick right in the face. The more he bleeds, the better it gets. Now THAT'S the way to distract the referee. I might have some problems afterwards, but let's be honest, who cares when you're putting up a great show like that. And by doing so, now you're gonna tell the refs that this little dude behind the bench was probably playing Roblox instead of watching the goal sequence and that he shall do the review instead before he gets assaulted too. Way more efficient.
Now yes, I might get a couple penaltys here and there, but at least that works !

Written Option 2

At the beginning of the season, the way I talk to the media is certainly a little different. When we are in the dog days of the season or in the playoffs, I really try and focus on the game or series at hand as to not let anything be a distraction. Before the season though, I like to tell the media a bit about the off season and how I spent it. I will sometimes combine personal things like my family and vacations we took, while also discussing my off season workouts and how I worked to develop my game. It is easy for us hockey players to be like robots in the way we answer media questions, so I do like to make it a point to be a bit more personable and I think the media talk before the season is the ideal time to give fans some insight into who I really am and how I spend my time off the ice.

This exact scenario happened when @HillsHaveHats scored his lone goal in season 80! With Coach @luke enraged on the bench, he sent the captain @Count Chocula to distract the ref. Unfortunately Count didn't do a great job and went to the linesman instead of the referee. Because of this, Luke had to send me instead. It was a good thing I was there, because I now know how to count. Once I got to the ref, I counted the number of players on the ice and showed the ref that the number of players that was offside was more than 3. The ref didn't believe I could count as well (he hadn't seem me in the Counting section of the locker room recently) and believed all the non sense that Count Chocula kept spewing how I messed up the counting in the past. I got kind of mad and started calling Count Chocula ''Count Chocolate''.

Cormier has been around in the league for a while now. He's paid his dues, won his cups, played his game. There isn't a lot left to achieve for Cormier, so his answer regarding what he's most looking forward to in coming seasons really shifts to the legacy he wants to leave on New England and in the SHL. Time comes for everyone and Cormier is know different. He won't be able to play forever and when the time to hang up the skates finally comes, what are people going ot think of him? What will he be remembered for? Where would he sit among the pantheon of New England greats? These are the kinds of things he is thinking about now instead of the hardware. And now that he's won just about everything he can, what better legacy than to devote the rest of his career to mentoring the next generation of Wolpack superstars and setting them up for the same success he had throughout his career.

Khalfani is respectful on and off the ice. He is carrying a national image on his back and people look up to him in all different aspects. To that effect he is not above doing sneaky things in order to help out his team, but it does mean that he has to be extra sneaky otherwise he could be caught. So you would find Khalfani here asking a teammate to start a commotion while he runs malicious interference with the ref. So maybe Erik Johnson is sent out there to start something while Khalfani goes to the ref and engages him in conversation and keeps putting himself between the ref and the ruckus in order to delay the game just a bit. So now there are distractions on two fronts and the strategist that is Khalfani has covered two angles for the deficiencies in his coaching staff. Then Khalfani becomes the coach with some beautiful costume work and calls the offsides himself.

Written Option 2:
After a tough start to the season for the Vancouver Whalers, we had a chance to sit down with their leading scorer, 2nd year player William Marshal, to discuss what’s going right, and so horribly wrong for the Whalers.

Reporter: “3-6 to start the season isn’t ideal, but by no means has to define an entire season. What’s the vibe like in the Whalers locker room?”

Marshal: “Honestly, we are hungry and ready to compete. Despite our slow start, our LR feels like we are contenders. We’ve shown we can score, now we just need to focus on good fundamental hockey. Our defense and possession is what’s killing us right now”

Reporter: “You certainly have shown offense isn’t the issue in Vancouver, with an impressive hattrick in an 11 goal routing of GFG. How is the team addressing the defensive struggles?”

Marshal: “I feel like it starts with me, my faceoffs and possession stats have been way down. Stepping into the 2C role has been a new experience for me, and an eye opening one. There has definitely been focus on improving our possession stats and breakouts in practice.”

Reporter: “Do you have any predictions for the rest of the Whalers season?”

Marshal: “We are going on a tear and showing this league what we are made of. I want to compete with Quebec, Anchorage, Carolina. Realistically I think we finish in the 4-8 range, but our playoff opponents better watch out. Vancouvers time is coming up fast”

Written option 1:

It can be very frustrating when the team feels like it was an offside on the play that resulted in a goal for the opponent, and even more so when the referee and linesman didn't see anything. Thank god we have video assistance and coach's challenges for this exact moment. It is, however, even intensely more frustrating when the videorefs have to take forever to decide on a call that has been made, even if it was like, superclear from the player's bench.

And while the videorefs need some time to kick into gear, last thing we want is for the actual refs to give up and just resume play rather than wait for the outcome (which is surely going to be in our favour). So when Julian gets sent out by the coach to make sure we don't resume play, he knows exactly what to do.

Without hesitation, Julian drops the gloves and starts a fight on center ice with the nearest opponent. That should keep us busy long enough.

Welcome to the hall, Ben!

Option 2:

When being asked about the upcoming season there was one major topic that everyone in the league and fandom seemed to really be focused on. With the explosion of new talent around the league and many incredible candidates looking for a home it was time to look at expanding. There are many rumour flying around to who might be exposed if an expansion happened as well as the obvious where would the new teams be formed even!? Cale wanted to take a moment and reflect on the chance at being exposed in the draft and put the fans minds at ease letting them know that he has and will be a member of the Forge. He plans on staying here until he ends his career sometime in the distant future. He has made his home in Philly and couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else. Of course he would not offer and steered away from all conversation as to who he would think would likely end up on the exposed list for the team.

Written Option 2: No Cheddar would keep the interview on topic and discuss the upcoming season. "I am extremely excited to continue my career on the Whalers with a full season under my belt. I think we've seen a lot of improvement from this team over that time. Everyone worked especially hard this offseason to start pushing for where we want to be in the standings. If I'm being completely honest, I think you'll still see us struggling in games with the top teams but the goal is definitely to give them a tough game each and every outing. I think the front office brought in some needed talent to support the core of this team and we should start seeing the benefits this year. To wrap this up, the old Whalers of mediocrity and even tragedy are gone. It is now Vancouver's time to once again leave their mark in the SMJHL.

In the event of being used as a decoy, Dejana would immediately talk to the refs to at least buy a little bit of time. Starting extracurriculars for no reason isn't really her style, she's not a physical player or an agitator; while she is more than just offense, her game is smart positioning above all else. Although, in an ideal situation, *she's* not the one being volunteered because a) she's not particularly social and is rather introverted and b) she doesn't generally like replay review as she finds it throws off her rhythm on the ice. What would she say to those refs? Generally just a brief protest conversation while she glares at the bench hoping that someone actually woke up and did their damn job for once in their godforsaken life. But she's not exactly one to stretch out a conversation so it'd be of limited impact.
