Ongo Gablogian would love to go Disneyland. He has never been there, but it has been on his bucket list. He has no interest in the all star game since he was snubbed yet again. Apparently defensemen who are at the absolute bottom of the league in all possible stats are not a hot commodity for the all star teams. Whatever. So out of spite, he is purposely going to the same area as the all star game but not actually going to it. Instead, he is going to Disneyland. There he will probably be told he is either too short or too fat to ride any of the rides. Or both. Probably both. So he will walk around and gawk at all the cool buildings and eat a ton of junk food, as is tradition. Then he will probably find a bridge somewhere and see what is going on under the bridge. Could be cool. He would finish it off by blowing half his salary on a super nice hotel room in a casino somewhere and blowing the other half of his salary on black jack. He doesn’t know how to play black jack so he will burn through that money quick.

We need to start recognizing players when they are really bad at the sport too. Ongo Gablogian, ever the prima Donna who always wants to be in the lime light, should be the name of an award you win for being the absolute worst SHL defenseman in the league. Somehow despite having 1700 tpe, he is always at the bottom of the stats list and contributes virtually nothing to his team besides raising the team’s average body fat percentage. The Ongo Gablogian Defective Defenseman Award has a good ring to it. It is an award of shame and should be dreaded by all defensemen.

3. Going along the lines with how I've answered number four, yea I do think it increases their chances of winning it all. If you're looking for championship wins, then there are no better candidates than those who have already won at the highest level. And again, you already have chemistry selecting players from the same team.

4. Historically this should hurt their chances of performing well and eventually winning the tournament. If you're looking to build chemistry then the best way to do that is to pick most of your players from one team. If you're selecting from teams throughout the entire division you run the risk of throwing chemistry to the wayside.

I think doing it this way does add a little bit of parity among the league and by extension the results. Also I think this makes it a little more similar to how it's done in real life, with the players being drafted by their respective teams "captain". I'm not sure about making the games and tournament more even but I do think you'll see different top-players and a more diverse outcome. Parity is always healthy for the league, so you don't have the same people winning the same games over & over again. I doubt there's anything really lost by moving away from divisional teams - if anything you're gaining something IMO; if you're looking to make it more like the NHL then having some sort of draft for all of the players is absolutely the way to go. It also makes the off-season a little more interesting, which is almost never a bad thing.

Written Prompt #4

This year, the all star game has 4 stacked teams clashing very well against each other in order to make it to the top. However, there is a standout among one of the teams, being for their interesting diversity among teams in the SHL. That being team light. This year, team light holds a member from atleast an incredible 14 teams. Only having 2 duos on their roster. One may see this as an advantage, a complete new and skilled group, picking the best from each team. However, I believe they are ar a disadvantage compared to the other 3 teams. To succeed in the SHL, you need to have chemistry among your managers, and teammates. With Team Light only having 2 duos could put them at a potential disadvantage. Although, just because they have all these different teams with players does not mean that chemistry can not be found. Maybe some of them were teammates, or friends in real life. It is a high risk, high reward situation for the 16 man roster they have here. All starting from a draft, Team Light does have what it takes on terms of TPE, but can do better with chemistry. The question being, do they have it.

Quote:11. Written, 50 to 200+ words. Here For The Show
So your player travels to Disneyland to either take part in the All-Star Expo or to watch it live. But it is also a location with other activities to offer. Do you think your player would be focused on the All-Star Expo or would it be seen as secondary priority for their travel? Who do they come there with, do they bring family and or friends with them or just enjoy the event with their teammates? What else do they spend their time and money on during the trip?

115 words +2 TPE:

As fun as the All Star Expo may be, it's still the offseason and it's important I get the mental and physical reset I need to dominate in the upcoming season. Being at Disney, that involves a lot of rollercoasters. I'd definitely watch All Star festivities but I'd be lying if I didn't admit my focus would definitely be on the sights and sounds of Disney, especially considering I've never been there before. Now if I'm playing in the All Star Expo that's a different story, I'm very competitive and I absolutely want to win. But if I'm just there as a spectator? Yeah you can catch me riding space mountain for the tenth time.

This prompt is hilarious purely on the fact I was just there SO I CAN ACCURATELY ANSWER THIS. Holl absolutely views watching the All-Star Expo as a secondary objective. Seeing all of the sights is going to be the biggest thing for him. And let me tell you there are so many sites to see here.

First and foremost Holl would have got to see Disney at least once. Holl would totally check it out and probably not get noticed by anyone at all. Which is a nice change of pace of things for him. But just seeing some of the rides and getting some overpriced food is just all a bonus for him.

Next he's absolutely going to the beach. Especially to Newport beach to see what is all going on there. Lots of shops to see and some good waves to catch as well. Maybe take an entire day just solely to do that alone. Nothing beats soaking up some sun.

Finally, he is gonna go whale watching and check out the aquarium in Long Beach. Yeah he’s got a lot of plans and it’ll be a lot of driving but these are some critical must-sees if you ever get the chance and Holl knows that without a doubt.

5. Word Count 69 TPE 1
I am always a big fan of some fun cities getting to hold fun events. Places like Las Vegas are always a high pick for me just because the glitz and glamor is always fun to see. But some other cities that could be fun are more random. Maybe holding an Expo internationally would be an interesting idea just because it doesn’t seem like that happens a whole bunch.

5. What location should the next Expo be hold at? Why? (50+, 1 TPE)

I would put the next Expo in Greenland. It would be very easy to maintain the ice in a location like that, and I imagine it would be pretty easy to guarantee that everyone who wants tickets could get them meaning the locals would not get shut out. You could even play the games outside! Pretty obvious location to host something like this.

10. Written, 50 to 200+ words. I Choose You! (200+, 4 TPE)

I suppose it is kind of fun to get Hall of Famers involved, but I am not sure that it feels the same in a sim league as it does in real life where those players will never play again. The Hall of Fame users probably already have another player in the league, so it does not really have the same meaning behind it. I think the biggest concern with this method is that the users chosen may not be super invested in the process and end up choosing based on factors other than player performance. It would be pretty upsetting to see that teams were selected based not on merit, but on other factors such as user preference. It is good that the committee is still selecting the player pool, but I will miss the objectivity of team selection and being able to say which division, conference, or whatever is the best. Ultimately, it does not matter in the end as individual player accolades in a sim league always feel a little arbitrary. At the end of the day, I hope the people that care about these events are happy with how they are run. My opinion matters little in the grand scheme of things. Public captains voting is kind of fun, too.

Task 1 - 2 TPE

Milestones

Task 2 - 2 TPE

I think when it comes to the All-Star game, the sentiment is mostly one for the fans and of enjoyment and having a good time, so I wouldn't say the Challenge Cup Winners make that much of a difference for that purpose. However, if the game was to be an actual tough one and players are playing at full speed and strength, having that on your team can never hurt. At the end of the day, these are the best players in the league, so everyone is good and everyone has been far enough in the playoffs, so I think the difference is likely small.

Task 4 - 2 TPE

Once again I refer to my answer above, it really depends what it's for. From a fan entertainment perspective, more players from different teams is obviously better as they get to enjoy their favorite players having a good time with other friends around the league and most guys they don't get to spend much time with throughout the season. If the game is to try and win, I take a team with guys who play together. That chemistry is not always easy to replicate, especially to figure it out for one game. This can be looked at multiple ways, but I think the chemistry of players playing together is too important in order to win a game.

Task 5 - 2 TPE

I will not pinpoint an exact location, because I think they would all be worthy of hosting it, but I think the next expo (and probably the next 4 expos) should be held and an expansion team's location. What better way to bring more visibility to the game in these new cities than by hosting the all star expo there? Not only does this give the fans something to watch and potentially expose them to the sport and quality of the SHL, but it also shows the rest of the league the new locations and what these cities have to offer by being included in the SHL.

5. What Location Should the next Expo be held at? Why? - 58 words, 1TPE
My recommendation for the next Expo location is going to have to go to Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii. It's a beautiful place, has plenty of fun things to do, has that same big name appeal as the North Pole and Disneyland, and no, I'm definitely not vicariously living through my player and dreaming of visiting a beach.

11. Writing Prompt - Here for the Show - 237 words, 4TPE
Matti wishes he could say his attention was all on the All-Star game. He really wishes he could. But it's at Disneyland, and he really cannot pull himself away from the attractions.

After the end of his first season, he'd dragged his fellow Grizzly rookies all the way to Ohio in search of a theme park experience. He'd found it, and while he wasn't sure his teammates had ever really forgiven him for dragging them onto coaster after coaster, they also hadn't protested too much when he'd pinned one of the ride photos up in his stall.

Now that he's in Anaheim for the game, he finds that the new theme park is too much of an allure to resist. As soon as the game has ended - and really, congratulations to everyone picked - he's sneaking away from the rest of his group and running for the rides.

While he has a great time overall, Matti has to put the Matterhorn down as his top pick for a ride at Disneyland. It might not be as smooth or as shiny as some of the newer attractions, and he doesn't think anything's going to replace Millennium Force in his heart, but the history of the ride is enough to win him over. When he finally sneaks his way back into the hotel, its with a grin on his face and a few new ride photos for his personal collection.

7.
My starting lineup for the SMJHL Southern All Star team would be the starting lineup for the Carolina Kraken. Once unlocked in the playoffs the talent for the Kraken really showed up and they rolled their playoff matches because of it. If that is not allowed, I will at least check to make sure all of the people I recognize are active, unlike people suggesting who we should give the Miller to.

12.
The SHL could potentially use an award for most underrated, though the community and committee would make that near impossible. There are players each season who do not show up on the stat sheet as hundred points scorers but are more than depth players. This overlaps with Most Valuable to some extent, but it would be nice to notice the players who go above and beyond their role without rising to the top 1% of players in a season. I would name this award after Jimmy Wagner or Jamie Fraser, who have both served as facilitators for teams much greater than the sum of their parts.

13.
As I've argued before, Jimmy Wagner is a Hall of Fame level player who has been snubbed by the Hall of Fame committee to this point. His performances are among the top 10 wingers of the decade, his turning up big in the playoffs constantly even as an aging leader on the Argonauts, his almost constant Western Conference Finals, and his three cups across multiple teams are indicative of a Hall of Famer. The Hall of Fame voting committee over this past decade seem to be more concerned about the awards, all pro recognitions, and scoring volume accumulated which aggressively omitted wingers in favor of centers. Most of the Hall of Fame level wingers in that era were under recognized due to this disparity, and caught in that Jimmy Wagner has a combination of personal performance, longevity, and titles that has earned him a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Javelin Bodine's SHL team is the Edmonton Blizzard and their representative in the All Star Expo is Jeyeff Effo. Jayeff is an exceptional defenseman who rules the offensive zone. They amassed 15 goals and 35 assists for a total of 50 points in 66 games this season. Those are high marks for a defenseman in the SHL. They also led the team in ice time while amassing 181 shots, 106 blocks, 54 hits, and 67 takeaways. Jeyeff has proven to be not only an offensive star, but also very stout in their own zone.

Javelin, not making the all-star game, would be an attendee just for fun this year. Disneyland is a magical place and somewhere that Javelin has always thought about visiting. Specifically Javelin is a huge theme park ride fan and would love the iconic rides at Disneyland. Classics like Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and It's a Small World offer a charming blend of story and adventure. For adrenaline junkies (like Javelin), Space Mountain, Indiana Jones Adventure, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance deliver high-energy excitement. Javelin is also a huge food lover and Disney always has great variety and high quality food to offer. Dole Whip near Adventureland, churros along Main Street, and blue milk in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are just a few tasty treats that Javelin would indulge in during his visit. The best attraction Javelin would be most excited for is the Star Wars stuff. Galaxy's Edge is where you can pilot a simulation of the famous Millennium Falcon and even craft your own lightsabers to keep. Javelin is a massive Star Wars fan. It's safe to say Javelin would be mostly focused on Disneyland rather than the All-star expo. Ultimately, he would have to go and check out the games and support his teammates though.

There are currently 16 players per All-Star team, which is simply too many. It significantly lowers the prestige of being selected. The All-Star Game should be a showcase for the very best talent in the league only the elite should make the cut. That’s what made the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament last February so special the quality was incredibly high.
With 64 total players, that averages out to more than three per NHL team. That’s not right. There needs to be a stricter talent threshold. Bring back the conference vs. conference format and choose only the absolute top players in the league. There’s no need to include someone from every team.
The ideal roster size is 15 players per team: three forward lines, two defense pairings, and two goalies. That setup would make the All-Star Game far more competitive and worth watching. Right now, too many players who aren’t truly stars are getting in, which waters down the entire event. So yeah, I’m just not a fan of the current system.

For my player, the All-Star Expo is the main reason for the trip. Whether they're participating or just watching, it’s a chance to learn, connect, and stay motivated. They travel with close family and a couple of friends people who’ve been there from the start. Outside the Expo, they enjoy Disneyland’s rides, especially Galaxy’s Edge, and grab some good food along the way. While not big on shopping, they’ll pick up some event merch and treat their group to a nice dinner. It’s a perfect mix of hockey and fun, but the Expo remains their top focus throughout the trip.

Okay folks we are going to make up an award for our old frined Rotticus Scott. This guy is so underrated because he retired early holy moly. They stole all of his TPE with regression and then made him retire early because everyone got mad about hammy winning or whatever. This award will be for the guy who does a lot but flies under the radar on the ice. Like he is very well rounded but does not put up a ton of stats in specific things maybe just very well rounded. That was Rotticus SCott man what a player and guy and very handsome. I wish he was still around he would love the current shl.
