WRITTEN OPTION 2
For me injuries are a no-no. Just because something is realistic does not mean that we should incorporate it in a sim league. Otherwise we should also add commercial breaks to the sims, have the games last 3 hours etc. We should also recruit people to fill all the vacancies: zamboni driver, data analysts, video coaches, physiotherapists and so on. You probably get the point. The whole idea of sim sports concept is that we get to pick the best parts of a sport and make it fun for us to simulate it from the comfort of our homes. Injuries mean games where our players are not playing, and I don't know how that would be fun for anyone. Well, maybe except the opposing team in the playoffs, when a star player gets injured. But even those would get evened up in the long run. So no. But if injuries were a part of the league, injured players should be replaced with temporary J call-ups, as then it would at least add a fun twist for those individuals who would get SHL stints as J players. But even then it would create a problem for the J teams when they would lose their key players. So again, no thanks. ![]() Head Office Check out my sig shop! ![]() Media Graders Senior Member

I'm conflicted. We all, for the most part, work hard and scrape to get every last bit of TPE we can to try and be the best SHL player we can be. Speaking from personal experience, even with max earning, or as close as I think I can get to it, is by no means a guarantee of having a successful and storied career. As anyone in the realm of simulation sports knows, sim gonna sim. So, making things harder on ourselves by making it possible to have your player injured? How much time would they miss? A sim week? A whole season? It's terrifying to think of really. And in saying that, would we have to create a new stat in our builds for durability or something of the like or will it be entirely up to chance? As much as the idea of adding injuries for "realism" is a cool concept, and something I have thought about before, the more I think about the less I'm convinced it's a good idea. However, If the league does go that route, it will be interesting to see how things play out. Bring on the simulated concussions and vague lower and upper body injuries. Small nagging injuries that may cost you a few shifts or a lighter load would be fine. It gives the opportunity to share the wealth and give some additional shifts to players lower in the lineup. But then you get less shifts, and less opportunity to impact the game, and your stats take a dip, so is it worth it? Probably, sure, why not? As for a call up to the Simulation Hockey League, would that unlock the TPE ceilings? There would need to be some tangible benefit for the Junior player to do this. In real hockey, there is the opportunity to debut and play in the pros, the ability for higher end coaching and training and facilities. Where does that potential growth come from in the SHL? Does the TPE ceiling get raised by a few points per game played, and you get to keep that if/when you return to the J? I think that'd be the most realistic way to deal with that, because that player would be better for playing in the big leagues. BUT... long term injuries where your player misses a game, or many games, I would say absolutely not to. ![]() Registered Posting Freak

I mean the only way to incorporate injuries will be to have the player only be injured for 1 game. The replacement should be bots and not real players just because all the players will want to feel like an integral part of the team and not as simply a substitute. The reason why I think 1 game is as far as one should be injured for is because anything longer and SHL may risk losing activity. Like who will want to be injured for months worth of sim and still do all the work and PT's for their player without having it reap any benefits. I would just be against personally regarding injuries. Although injuries are a part of the game and it is what gives that unpredictability in real life, we are simply playing a simulation. There is no need to have injuries as part of our sim especially when we are working so hard to gain TPE. I rather play east side hockey manager at this point if injuries were part of the SHL. Injuries will personally remove my interest in the game and I will just be inactive since I don't get to see my player flourish. ![]() ![]() Registered Senior Member
I'm very happy about the SHL not having injuries. I mean there are options to solve injuries. Calling up players from the JMHL and allowing J teams to sign and release emergency IA at everytime while at the same time manualy limiting the lenght of an injury is probably the best way to deal with it. At the same time, no matter the solution it always sux for the person who is having their player injured. If it would be possible injuries would be taken out of real life hockey so why should we not eliminate them in a sim league where we actually can? Having injuries has zero benefits and the realism card also doesn't count. That's like we should have a terrible at their job department of player safety for realism. Or coaches who bully and are being assholes to their own players for realism. Or some os uf have to start playing in the snow for realism. I think i made my point and don't have to get further into even worse things we shouldn't have for realism. So yeah, no injuries forever please.

Trevor Lopez is a VERY precise skater when it comes to his pre-game routines, and of course, a major part of that routine are his stretches. After all, it's very important for a man of his physical frame to be as limber as possible going into a game, lest he risk showing any signs of slowing down on the ice. However, on this fateful night, Trevor wasn't able to show up at the arena until the very last minute, and unfortunately was forced to play without stretching, but SURELY missing one of his exercises wouldn't be too serious, right? That's what he thought, at least, until stepping onto the ice for his first shift, where as he lined up to start the game, he could hear a notable crack in his back, forcing him to the ground and rendering him unable to move. Luckily, some teammates were able to help him off the ice, and luckily a few shots of painkillers were able to help him play through the pain, but the damage was done. SHL's first injury, all because of a little carelessness.

It would be nice, if we could see injuries. Thing is, that hockey is rough sport, and injuries could also make a big differences between the teams, it might also add a more tactician side of the game, if your best center get injured, you should get a player from J's, and you could have "reserve" players, they play normally in J's but they are named as reserve players for SHL teams, and they are eligible to call up if needed. In case of injury, J teams should have a bigger player pool, and if their player will get call up, you have to make changes in your line up also. It is just something, that i think we should think, because of realism but also it can make huge changes for teams, and even the underdogs have more changes to be in higher league position. My opinion is that max injurytime should be like 3-4 games, so it won't be too long, but it might give a nice new things to the game ![]() Registered Senior Member
Option 2:
I actually think that injuries are a very interesting mechanic for sim leagues. In one hand, they are another element of RNG - and variance is fun. I could see injuries adding another layer to team strategy (can I play certain roles / make tactical decisions to avoid injuries)? as well as adding another mechanic to team building (needing a reserve of players / prospects able to be called up). On the other hand, I can see them being incredibly frustrating. Especially in a sim league like the SHL where most of the games are quick simmed, I can't imagine it being very fun to have your player missing games - especially on stream. I would be interested to see it explored further, perhaps with some form of mercy rule to max out the amount of time you can miss due to injury. I can just taste the drama and controversy if a star player were to be injured during a key playoff game - would definitely make things more interesting! ![]() ![]() Trading Card Team
Option 2
Injuries in the SHL or SMJHL would leave winning up to chance too much, but it might be interesting to have them enabled for things like the all-star game or the IIHF and WJC. Since engagement tends to be on the lower side for anything that's not the regular season and playoffs, it might be fun to throw that in just to shake things up and differentiate these offseason tournaments from what we're used to. In the IIHF, I could see it going one of two ways, either the teams like Canada and the USA that have a lot of depth will be less affected by the injuries since they have more high TPE players readily available to fill in, or the opposite could happen, it could level the playing field since the teams with the most high TPE players may not be able to rely on them as heavily. Even if it didn't stick, it might be something that's interesting to try for an offseason or two to see what happens. ![]() Donators Donated

I would like to see injury in the game to give a stat like fighting a more real chance. Fighting currently has very little reason to be in the league due to no injury nor crown bonus for them happening. This is a sim not real life and I do not see a problem with the league having injury in fact that could be a few more stats such as recovery and even a play style of playing cautious on the ice. Money could be spent on upgrading and having better trainers and new jobs could be added to help heal players. I am about to have my Master of Business and for me more site jobs and jobs in general are a good thing. To address what would happen during injury we would first need to fix how the J and SHL interact. J teams should need to partner with 1-2 SHL teams and become feeder teams for ONLY those clubs. What this means is that players who are in Detroit could only be called up or even drafted by the SHL team. I would turn 2 drafts into 1 and players would be draft day drafted into their J teams. This would also provide more team leadership with more time and less draft days. The teams could call up their J players and the J term would be extended up to 6 seasons to where the players are SHL viable. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() IIHF Federation Head IIHF GM
I think it's definitely for the best that player injuries are not a thing in the SHL. Part of the charm of the league is watching your player every sim, wondering what you'll do next, and with an injury you take some of that element away. Especially for major injuries. If they were ever implemented, there would need to be a cap on length so that you don't basically check out for a full season because your dude blew out an ACL or something. How players would be replaced, I think, is best answered by a trickle up. SHL teams have the ability to call up their prospects from the J, and J teams are able to backfill with either low-TPE IA scratches or bot players. But at the same time, that's just a hypothetical answer to a question no one asked, injuries off is a hundred percent the way to go.

Okay so as an analogy, on current (well, last gen now) EA Sports NHL, injuries in Be A Pro would happen way too much. Turn the wrong away, and some bum third pair defenseman just rams you into the boards and you're out for the game. You exit out of the game and you're thinking 'oh it's not too bad, probably will miss a game or two', and the upshot is that you're plain wrong. Dislocated shoulder or broken hand or something like that. Boom, out for weeks. Maybe a month or two. Longer even if the sim really hates you. Now your rookie year is a complete wash. The point that I'm trying to make? It shouldn't be anything more than a game or two. Even then, this would SUCK for any player that catches the short end of the stick. Sure, realism is cool, but it would just plain suck. I agree with the folks saying to just simply not consider it. Too big of a can of worms. Written Option 2: In my honest opinion adding injuries into the Simulation Hockey League can really present both another big layer of realism and a potential challenge to fairness amongst teams competing for the challenge cup and could potentially ruin the enjoyment for members of the Simulation Hockey League. Injuries are a natural part of the game in hockey and simulating them could add depth to roster management, coaching strategy, and team resilience with in the Simulation Hockey League. But there is a lot of things to consider logistically with this idea. In terms of team logistics SHL teams would absolutely need extra SHL caliber players available as injury reserves. This would deepen the value of depth charts and make roster planning more dynamic so instead of having four new expansion teams may be you can just having larger rosters considering players are guaranteed to get injured through out the season. The SHL could even include injured reserve slots on the roster which could free up cap space temporarily like in the NHL or allow teams to call up replacements from the SMJHL send downs.
