#1

Please pick ONE prompt to write about. Do not mix and match prompts. Identify the prompt you are using in your submission - Copying and pasting the prompt will deduct from your word count so if you do this make sure YOUR submission is 150+ words excluding the prompt.

Written Option 1: In an alternate world, your player is a hockey-themed superhero!! What is their hero name? What are their hockey-themed superpowers? Do they have supervillains? If so, are they from another SHL team? What are their villains’ names and powers? Feel free to describe an encounter between your player and their villain!

Graphic Option 1: Create an image of your superhero player!

Written Option 2: A hero in sports is often described as a player who performs when the pressure is at its highest. This could be from a game winning goal in a close game, a game tying goal, a game saving defensive play or of course for our goalies out there a game saving… save! But this is only the visual aspects of being a hero on the ice. What else makes a hero on the ice or behind closed doors in the locker room. Is your player a hero for their team? Is there another player you’d consider your team’s hero?

Graphic Option 2: Create an image of your team’s hero giving a speech in the locker room.

You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all requirements.

Written Option 1 -

In a wild world full of hockey players with superpowers, where hockey is the most popular game in all of the universe, played across planets and solar systems and shared across all walks of life both human and "super".. Goaltenders everywhere of all shapes and sizes live in fear of what is possible. How do you defend a net with players that are immovable, players who have super strength, players who are massive in size, or are capable of creating smoke screens or any other ridiculous effects resulting in blocking your goaltender from being able to see an incoming shot at potentially devestating speeds and ridiculous accuracy through coin slot gaps?? You'll be wanting X-Ray vision to counter all of thisYou need to be able to see the shot through the screen, you need to be capable of picking out the danger through all the traffic and stay focused on what's important. But perhaps what's really important is to ask yourself as a goalie in this universe.. Is if you even want to put your body between those posts and stand there as a rocket powered shot is coming at you. Do you even dare flinch and try to block it, or hope it misses you and rips the twine? Do you even attempt to make a save, or do you accept somebody with telekinesis is going to make you look like a fool? Would this turn goaltenders into the real villians of the world as a result of the abuse they face on a game to game basis? Or would defensemen just be capable of vaporizing forwards as soon as they touch the puck to make none of this an issue to begin with? So many questions to ask.

Written Option 2: I'd say a team hero is either the person who keeps the team in games and wins close ones on the ice, or the one who provides the central pole for the team in the locker room. In Edmonton, we have a lot of examples of both, but this season especially it's impossible to look past Justin Time (@RAmenAmen). Not only is Justin perhaps the most reliable starting goalie in the league, keeping EDM in games that could be blowouts, and pushing us over the line with fantastic goalie play in otherwise close games, but Ramen himself is a hugely helpful and important member of the locker room. Other than generally being good for simply bringing fun and positive vibes, Ramen is also an elite coach who helps with tactics in a major way. His FHM knowledge is impressive, and helps players figure out how to achieve their goals, both in builds and in how they play on the ice.

Violet's hockey-themed superhero power would have to be derived from Violet from the Incredibles, right? There wasn't any particular inspiration I took while making this player's name, but it fits too well and is pretty practical. She'd immediately be one of the best defensive players in the league, but would still want to be a centerwoman, so she'd just be an incredible shot blocker by throwing up her shield whenever the puck is headed towards the net -- but only for a split second so no one gets suspicious. The Corsi/whatever other metric you use would still be OK, but the goals against would likely plummet. She wouldn't use it to go 52-0, since that'd be pretty suspicious, but she might also put up a barrier around her teammates just as soon as they're about to hit the ice or one of the boards to soften the impact. It'd allow players on her team to be more willing to get into (and recover from) tricky spots where they might suffer big hits or be out of a play.

Option 1: skating down the ice is Lou Logsky, he has the puck but it's taken away. In real life Logsky would have to go back check but in this alternate reality he can manipulate his surroundings so he instead magically gets the puck back and forces the goalie go one way with his powers to instead go the other way and SCORE that is why they call him Dangle, as he uses the craziest dangles with his powers. However he must use his powers to stop the toughest villain of them all, Sargeant Stripes, an evil referee who uses mind control on players to change the course of the game, Dangle must find a way to stop him, the next game Dangle is on the ice but the ref is too, the ref mind controls one of his teammates causing him to take a penalty and Dangle is not happy about that so he uses his powers to change reality and to convince everyone that the ref had been betting on games, which in fact he was getting him kicked out of the game.

Option 1: Patrick Rail would turn into the Railman. He would have the ability to spin his stick so fast and shoot pucks at any bad guys. He would skate the city keeping everyone in line or they risk getting railed.

He would have a Sidekick. Kameron Urchin-Mullen @hotdog would be the best Sidekick ever! He would patrol the streets with Railman. KUM would jump into action shooting a sticky substance to freeze any would be bad guys trying to run away.

Railmans biggest villain would be Yoshi @sobrien6187 . Yoshi would be the person trying to cause havoc and make the city question how the pronounce Gif. Railman and Kum would set traps for Yoshi. They would have a bunch of people talking about how Philadelphia sports are overrated and Yoshi would show up to degrade them. KUM would freeze Yoshi and Railman would take one solid shot at Yoshi knocking him down. KUM would fire again keeping Yoshi there for the authorities.

Easy, honestly. MY players name would be "The Whaler", coincidentally, they still play for the Whalers! Bare with me on this, but their super powers all stem from their stick, that was gifted to them by their step father, Poseidon, and it allows them to speak with Whales and other aquatic life. On the ice though, it allows them super strength to keep the other team in check and to rip shots from the point at triple digit speeds. They do have an arch-nemesis; the Knight! Which, to the surprise of no one, plays for the Kelowna Knights. No idea what powers they have, as we haven't reached that climactic battle yet, but safe to say, they hate water and despise the oceans, which is clearly a bad thing. I think the end of the first run of comics for this duo, cause obviously, need to be thinking larger than just branding, will end with the Whalers and Knights meeting in the conference finals, Game 7, OT, and the Knight and the Whaler meet at center ice to decide the fate of not only their teams, but also the world.

Option 2

I could say that being the starter in Texas for so many years, I was and I think still is a hero for my team.
With the success we had in the playoffs and being a top 5 teams in the conference for so many seasons put me in a position where I had to make a game saving save more time that I can count. Of course people can say that we only went to the Cup final one time, but our conference was insane and if we were in the East, I'm sure we would have more presence in the final.
Being the oldest player on the team and the one who have been on the team the longest, young players look at me when they have question about their play on the ice or anything non hockey related.
I'm now the goalie with the most wins in the franchise so I'm not only a team hero, but a franchise hero! and probably a town hero to Smile

Option 2:

I think that the ultimate summit of the athlete-as-hero perception is being the total package, including being a hero in the community. You think about guys like Patrice Bergeron in the NHL who made heroic plays on the ice, overcame injuries and adversity to be there in the big moments for his teammates, exemplified leadership and sportsmanship, as well as being a well-spoken ambassador of the game off the ice and active in the betterment of his community – that’s what I think of when I think of a sports hero – the total package. We have a hero in Philadelphia too. His name is BASE PACK. Not only has he led a tremendous career as a member of the Forge, putting up huge numbers and winning a cup in S69, but he exemplifies leadership in the locker room by lifting everyone up in our times of struggle, and lightening up even the heaviest of situations (usually with self-deprecating humor.) Beyond that, his work off the ice rescuing homeless gerbils across southeastern Pennsylvania is nothing short of inspiring. Being able to give these little critters a new lease on life at his massive gerbil rescue is something that serves as an example to us all of the positive impact we can have on our community. Every year he hosts a fundraising dinner for all the most prominent Philadelphians, which Marek was able to attend for the first time this past year. This is how he keeps the rescue operating, even donating any fundraising overages to other local charities. Marek’s favorite part of the event was this savory stew that was served – he’d never had anything like it. One of these days, Marek will have to ask BASE just how it was made.

By the periods combined, its Captain Earthnut!  This humanoid peanut plays for the power of good on the ice against the (presumably evil until proven innocent) forces of despair.  Arch nemesis' known as Steelhawks or Dragons or the fiery minions collectively known as "Inferno".  Captain Earthnut with his trusty ward, Mutou Mutou strike fear into the hearts of the evil netminders looking to steal goals away from their rightful owners!  While not imbued with any super powers, though Mutou Mutou was rumored to have some occult relationship with Egypt, this Puck-Fighting dynamic duo speeds around in their aptly named Zambomobile in defense of the good in the Simulation Hockey League.  Each day they find themselves facing off against the puck-stealing forces of evil like:  Dr. Schattenaxt, known for his abilities to steal right out in broad daylight and Earthnuts personal nemesis, Peanut Butter Zamboni.  This evil-doer prevents well appropriated goals from entering en-masse and who's very existence is a threat to Captain Earthnuts life!  Despised so much in fact that there wasn't even a cool enough nickname to give them!  Peanut Butter...the death of Earthnuts!

Stay tuned for future adventures!
