I was always of the opinion that I like the idea of having injuries on rather than what that would actually look like in practice. It would be super cool to have an equivalent of the AHL for the SHL to be able to have guys ready to play and ready to come up to the big team whenever there was an injury, but the reality is that that just would not be enjoyable. Yeah you’d be able to play for a secondary cup, but most of your time would be sat twiddling your thumbs and actually rooting against your friends and teammates in that you’d want them to get injured to get called up. And what about the players that get injured? Imagine you’re an SMJHL rookie and your player blows out their knee in the first game of the season. The rest of that season would be so boring and not at all engaging for those players. Also what if you get a career ending injury? Then what happens to those players?

Prompt 1:
All of a sudden after the puck hits the ice a loud smack floods the arena. The music stops, the skates stop and the noise all come to a halt. The fans look down and see someone lying on the ground... Its Literally Wizard. He was knocked out by one of the opposing players on LAP. It appears he may be down for good right now. Time passes by, fans chant for him to get up. No response... Medical crew rushes out to assist helping him off the ice but his body still appears as lifeless as earlier. Something is wrong and everyone is worried for what it could be. Wizard is rolled out of the arena and into an ambulance. Panic continues to ensue but the game must go on. Calgary knowing they are down one does what they do best and closes out the game but makes sure they know this game did not come without a cost.
A common injury that you get with birds is usually with their bones, they've got a very light bone structure because they need to fly, and so you need very low amounts of weight. This is a reoccurring problem with 3WW Wingmate Roc because he is a bird and is playing a hard-hitting, physical sport like hockey, which he is not naturally built to do.
One can deal with feathers being plucked, although pilot feathers are more important, but the fragility of Wingmate Roc is a known issue and problem for the player in the SHL.
The team certainly might regret putting him into a defensive role where he has to hit many people, and get hit, because of this inherent fragility.
He does have a 4 toughness rating in Magic the Gathering but that is a function of good movement, speed, and flying away from harm rather than the straight up durability one gets into during a game like hockey.
It was 30 seconds in to warm ups when Ongo Gablogian just didn’t feel right. He couldn’t quite place what the issue was, but he just chalked it up to the fact that he only had two crunch wrap supremes before the game, when he usually has three. Playing on an empty stomach is never a good idea, after all. Anyway, with sweat pouring down his face, it was finally time to start the game. He didn’t have time to eat anymore Taco Bell between warm ups and puck drop, as he was getting yelled at by the coach for being unprepared. The puck is dropped, and it comes toward him. He picks it up and attempts a backwards cross over and falls immediately, twisting his ankle. As he lays on the ice staring up at the lights, all he can think about is that third Crunchwrap supreme. As he is carted off, fans in the arena solemnly clap, not out of respect, but because any other defenseman on the team would be better.

I think having injuries, to a limited extent, would be an extremely interesting addition to the league. No one likes having their player not play, but having the ability to invest points to prevent injury (through durability/toughness or whatever FHM uses) would be interesting and would allow some players to prioritize longevity over maximum skill. Provided that players can't suffer season or career ending injuries, I think it would make a lot of interesting dynamics. It would also give SHL GMs an actual practical reasons to temporarily call up SMJHL players. And the bragging rights about having the longest iron man streak would definitely come into play. We someone see it with goalies, as goalies have an easier time staying relevant even with lower TPE, so you'll see a new goalie trying to break the games played or career wins record every now and again. Having an iron man streak among skaters would be fun and give another possible career path for users to go for.
Literally nothing happened with the alleged injury, because Kristian Seppanen plays as a right defenceman for the Atlanta Inferno hockey team of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the Simulation Hockey League, otherwise known as the SHL. As you, the reader of this PT, might know, the Simulation Hockey League has no injuries because this is a fictional hockey league for fun, and apparently people would not have fun if they found out their player had a career ending injury. However, Kristian Seppanen, the star right defenceman and assistant captain of the Atlanta Inferno hockey team, chose to stay on the ground because he was trying to block a shot - as he so desperately wants to win the shot blocking record for both this season, and hopefully eventually all-time after Kristian Seppanen has a 25-season long career. Nevertheless, even if he doesn’t make or break records, Kristian Seppanen wants to put every effort into every play to be a strong defender and make his team as good as fictitious humanly possible.
Functionally I think the only way to incorporate injuries would be if they could be played through and were frequent and well distributed enough that players wouldn't have their career production hampered by them. Then, for debuffed players, especially with IAs, J players could come up for a few games, maybe have a brief uncap, and then go back down without losing eligibility or rookie status eventually. SHL level teams could even work to call up players from J teams that might not be top of table that season to not throw off the team and season the young player might care more about that season.
I also think that if these debuff injuries are occuring, we could see similar buffs in a run of form that could be either random or that a player has a certain number of over their career, and can only use a few a season. These could be used to counteract injuries or in coordination with teammates to secure a division win in the regular season. These runs of form and injuries should both be disabled for the playoffs though.
I believe that adding injuries to the simulation hockey league would add an additional layer of depth and strategy to the league that it is currently lacking. Depth is already important, but adding in injuries and also increasing cap space for GMs to add 1-3 more players would be interesting. I would anticipate seeing some GMs ignore injuries and hope for the best, while others would actually utilize a fourth line and then be able to backfill higher lines when there are injuries. Additionally, having some "injury resistance" type stat would be a fun addition to builds, sort of like stamina for pitchers in the PBE maybe? Would be fun as a neutral to see a little more variation at the top of the league. Of course injuries should never be in sim leagues because it'd suck so much to max earn for irl years just to miss a season at your peak TPE because of bad rng
God forbid someone hurt Bernard Lodge. Even though he's a new member of the team, going after the goalie is beyond a faux pas, it's a one way ticket to the gloves being dropped and your sweater being tugged over your head. Lodge would like to think that anyone of his teammates would have his back.
Anyways, as to how it would have happened. I bet it would have been against his old squad the New Orleans Specters. While it may initially be surprising as Lodge was well loved by NOLA, one has to remember that they employ the leagues most violent players, Billy Hill. Known for his fighting and always willing to tussle, Hill would go after his friend Lodge to settle a grudge he once had and will hold onto forever. Lodge knows it's nothing personal, it's just Billy Hill Hockey. Not long after Hill and Lodge have smacked each other upside the head his former Specter teammates would pull Hill off and mess him up themselves. Nobody touched their old goalie.
written option the second one about how to incorporate injuries
so i personally would be against the incorporation of injuries into the simulation hockey league in any form really how ever if we were to include injuries into our system there are several parts of the system of which we use that would require some changes to be made. for instance and or example, one change that would need to be made in this current system is firstly the ability to injure a player. next i would say that the only way to make this system viable is if players only got injured within a game and would automatically recover after the game ends. this makes it so that injuries still significantly impacts the result of games but the impact of injuries on an overall season is minimized including the need to roster extra players. i think this would strike a good balance and make real goons and or gooners viable if they can take out a star player near the start of a game. what do you think @5ympathies @micool132 @hotdog @Duff101 @Jepox

Introducing injuries based on the sim would be difficult; injury rates are high enough that they would affect a significant portion of the league. The Simulation Soccer League has injuries on for individual matches as they are unable to turn them off (don't quote me on that, I am not 100 percent certain of that) and then a "Super Sub" is brought on in that players' place for the remainder of the match. That seems to be the best way to make it work, but it it is very unrealistic as some of those injuries are definitely longer term that just get wiped away between matches. It would make things interesting, but the benefit is pretty minor compared to losing an entire season or more for a specific player. It also means that there needs to be substitute players ready to go that will have to ride the bunch until such a time that the "first team" player gets hurt. It could be interesting, but for our purposes I think we have to ignore this aspect of realism.
I get that adding injuries to the game would add realism but it's an absolute horrible idea. It's not like the NHL were you can just call up a prospect with pretty much no consequence, a week IRL is about a 4th of the regular season and randomly losing a max player for a period of time could decimate a team especially if the J had injuries on as well. Plus with new expansion teams I don't think the league is big enough to accomidate injuries. Plus it really screws over the user experience in my opinion, who wants to see their player miss games due to something out of control, there's a reason why the league has turned in game suspensions off as well. I know there are probably some users that would like the added realism but in a user league like this it just doesn't make sense or seem like a real good option.

option 2:
Adding injuries to the Sim would be something that would be very hard to manage. I think it would be a cool feature to have as it adds some realism to the game. However how do you balance realism with injuries and having people miss out on playing. I feel like attribute that would contribute to injuries and preventing injuries will become the most popular attribute in the Sim as no one would want to get hurt. Essentially if someone got hurt you would need to have a bot player that would fill in their place however at a lower tpe level. I think now talking about it that is probably the most realistic outcome, is not to have straight out injuries but essentially an injury is a reduction in tpe for x amount of games. This allows the player to still continue playing the games, however the player would lose some tpe and would affect the team due to his injury. At the end of the day no one would want to get hurt or play with less tpe so it would be a long shot to implement.
If your player becomes injured and cannot play then most of the reasons people come to this game is removed. To maintain engagement, I suggest that injuries are opportunities to earn bonus TPE. That said, to prevent exploitation there should be minimal to no ways to influence getting injured (bravery/aggression ratings for example).
I have two suggestions for implementation, simple and complex. The simple bonus TPE is that injury duration corresponds to Personal Coaching rewards, shorter duration injuries may give 1 or 2 and longer term will likely be much more but capped somehow. When your player is injured, you automatically get the coaching reward the following week.
The complex and custom implementation would be that injury duration maps to the TPE either as a flat bonus per time, or by category of injury where certain types/lengths all get the same bonus.
Injuries (i.e, not playing) are already "punishment" so earning the bonus TPE should be as frictionless as possible. In the next real life week after your injury, there should be a blue "medical check" button which grants 50% of your bonus TPE immediately. The remainder will be the 25+ word prompt "Your treatment is being dramatized for TV. What wild and crazy event or inter-personal conflict did your player witness during treatment? The more wild and crazy the better"
If someone's player is "prone" to injuries and not playing often, he bonus TPE accumulated should be enough to make them MORE impactful when the do play, increasing the dopamine hit by seeing them on the score sheet. For occasional injuries, it's a simple bonus that gets the next rating a week or two earlier.
