Phanuef is a great defender I loved him in Calgary it took me a year to get over how fking stupid the trade was in the first place (especially the year when Aulie looked like a stud too not sure wtf happened to him). But still fact is he's a shelf of his former self still very good though

Yeah my thoughts exactly, even though his team may be worse than any other (Though I don't personally agree) teams like the Islanders (Who play the Flyers, Pens, Rangers several times a year) and Florida (Who play Ovie and Stamkos and the Canes several times a year) would make their degree of difficulty higher... I would like to see the breakdown of that stat

And @Maxy ya but he looked like he could be a top 4 defender with outside chance at top 2 now he's been bottom 6 on one of the worst defenses in the league. He's been alright though

Teams with worse quality DMen than the Leafs imo

Tampa Bay
Florida Panthers
Buffalo Sabres
Calgary Flames
Colorado Avalanche
Columbus Blue Jackets
Dallas Stars

I'd take the Leafs current Defense over any of these teams any day. These are the ones who I think they're quite a bit better then, there's obviously teams who are close but these are the ones I don't see a question about

Yeah i agree. I completely disagree phaneuf having the worst teammates in the league. Not to mention the article factoring in QoC into the debate. i dont see how having a high QoC should factor in to a norris, u have to look much deeper than that. Aka a player's success per game vs his QoC.

I'm pretty sure you can google it. It's just an advanced statistic. I'm not sure how they come up with them though.

And Myers, he's not a shell of his former self lol. He's miles better defensively now and is mostly a shutdown defender. Not only that but he's still top 5 in goals and points.

im not bashing phaneuf btw, i think hes been playing well this season. I just disagree about him being a norris dman

I'd agree with everyone though I like Columbus D in the future. To be very good once they develop

Phaneuf has shocked me this season. Playing extremely well this season, he is great defensively and can shut down players. Example is the two goals Nash scored last night, Phaneuf wasn't on the ice. He is top 5 in D scoring even after having a slow start.

The difference now and when he was in Calgary is he could change the pace of the game with a hit a good rush etc. he doesn't do that now he can still score a big goal and throw some big hits but he doesn't do it at the frequency. And he wasn't as bad as everyone thinks he's far from 'miles' ahead but I have admitted he's better. I watched the kid every game winces he's come into the league aside from a few. He's a different player

That's the thing. Most people would say the same thing you're saying but all I'm saying is the advanced statistics show he is.

Kostka and Holzer played huge minutes for the majority of the season. Those Gus are borderline NHL players Gunnar is having a down year, Likes has been in an out of the lineup, Franson and Fraser have been pretty good but this D core would be in shambles without Phaneuf.

I won't get into the details really though since I wouldn't know what I'm talking about.
