It's not the one person though, there's been a series of high profile guys leaving for the KHL in the past few years and that is just adding to an already existing 'Russian Factor'...

Don't blame him for wanting to be with his family, in his country...but I do blame him for bailing on his NHL team to, possibly, play in the KHL.

So, this begs the question...when will the Devils make the playoffs next? I say, if they start rebuilding now, it' take them at least 3 years to get a decent prospect pool together, if they draft well, at most though 5 years. So that puts us to 2018-19, then 3 years of being an improving young team, they'll see the playoffs again as early as 2020-21 and as late as 2022-23. Right around the time Kovalchuk's $250,000 cap penalty will come off the books.
